Had a half rack of ribs which was pretty good in size, it was actually a small tray of ribs for about 8 bucks… it wasn’t well done(still pink) I had to go home and finish it up in the oven, and it was dry I had to add a lot of bbq sauce to it(might as well had bbq’ed myself)…the guy was nice though.

Terrible BBQ! BBQ skills are not up to par. They smother the food with BBQ sauce to hide the fact that the meat was sitting under a heat lamp which in turn dried it out. The cole slaw was dry and tasted old. I am trying to figure out how they got a trailer on the naval base to serve my sailors the disgusting food. The only thing that smells good is the wood that they use but don’t be fooled by it. ENC(SW) USNRETIRED

Hopefully this saves you a trip there. Wish I had looked at Unilocal before I went. I went yesterday. A TCC class ended early, I had time before having to be somewhere else and I wanted to try it out. I had seen the smoker outside and so thought it would be good. When I got there, it said drive through okay, meh, I had time. I walk up and 2 people are there and 1 is getting his order and leaving. First problem. They had brisket, which is what I wanted, but only as 10 bucks a lb. That is both over-priced and way too much for a typical meal. So, I ask for half a lb. The lady says she can only because they’re slow, but they probably won’t do it again.(Edit: Afterwards talked to my dad(who works in the meat department in HEB back in Texas), who told me that while 10 bucks a lb isn’t a great deal, it’s really not that over-priced as beef has gone up a bit.) Wasn’t impressed with the whole, we’re doing you a favor, so appreciate it attitude. Anyways., place my order, after a minute or two, the lady gives the other guy his order. Now here’s another problem. If you look at the picture, it’s not a walk in restaurant. It’s basically a long shed in a parking lot. 2nd problem. The weather when I went was overcast, a little chilly and drizzling. The lady didn’t make small talk and closed the window and just left me out there. So, I wasn’t a big fan of the service. 3rd problem. I’m from central Texas, I eat brisket regularly. It normally goes like this. «Hi, I want ¼, ½, et cetra brisket, or a brisket sandwich». They say, «Cool/great/right with you». And depending on the place, either you can see them unwrap the meat, put it on a cutting block, cut it, measure it, and boom. You’re served in a minute or two. Or, they go to the back and same deal. They come back out in a little while with your food. Not this place. I waited for almost 15 minutes! The lady opened the window after 10 minutes and said they were almost done and just making sure it’s fresh for me. . . Seriously… «Fresh»?.. It’s brisket. It’s BBQ. Unless you killed the cow and cooked it in 10 minutes, it shouldn’t take that long. Fresh Brisket/BBQ means hot and right off the smoker/grill(which I almost wonder was for show at that point). Anyways. Another 5 minutes later(15 minutes waiting for«Fresh» brisket”), she brings it out to me and says I hope I enjoy it. So. the food, and problem #4 First off, it was nice that it was actually sliced brisket instead of pulled beef like I had had at another place a few months ago., but it was covered in BBQ sauce. And once you got past that, I couldn’t taste any of the actual beef flavor. BBQ sauce should be an accessory, not almost a centimeter deep and just slathered all over the brisket like only those who don’t know how to cook do it. Secondly., and this is why it’s 1 star. I have experience with BBQ and brisket. Taking 15 minutes to serve it isn’t fresh. That’s taking it out of the refrigerator and putting it in a hot oven to heat it up again instead of uncovering and cutting it. To make it worse, I got this around 12:30. If you do brisket right, then it was started around(assume 11:00 am serve), 9 – 12 the previous day. However, if you take it out at 11, then it’s still hot and no need to go into the fridge until later. So this tells me I paid 5 bucks for«fresh» BBQ that was cooked either yesterday or the day before and was in the fridge the whole time and not only that, they were trying to charge people 10 bucks a lb for something that is very much not fresh. To me, that explains why I waited in the cold and wind for 15 minutes and my brisket(which came with no toast or pickle, or whatever) was covered in BBQ sauce. Edit: Recently knocked it up to 2 stars, from 1, for 2 reasons. 1) The meat did taste okay, but was hard to tell if from BBQ sauce or the actual taste. Mostly because 2). I appreciated that the owner or management came on and apologized for the service and such. Tells me that they do care and are looking to make it right.

Ehhhh… that’s all I can say about this place even though I really want to say more postive thing but I just can’t. I thought the service took a long time. I want to say we were about to just cancel but we were starving.

A very disappointing experience! We decided to see how this place stacked up to my home smoked pork and ribs and it failed. The ribs were prepared and cooked very poorly, with large amounts of inedible fat and very tough with little flavor to the meat. They are then slathered in an ungodly amount of sauce as if to try to hide the fact they were cooked and seasoned poorly. The Pulled pork was flavorless. Now for the sides at 2.50 a piece they are small and way over priced the Mac and cheese was dry and bland, the baked beans were very similar to canned the green beans were good though. They also make sure you know they are«Veteran owned». I am unsure why unless the owner is just trying to play it to get business. he offers nothing for his bothers and sisters. Save your money don’t eat here.

Got a half slab of ribs. Some parts of the bark were like jerky. Tasted way too smoked(a slight fuel flavor) for my taste. When the meat falls off the bone by just picking them up, I consider they are overcooked. Really wanted to give them a chance but $ 10 for a ½ slab, no sides, is expensive for charred meat. Think I’ll stick to Whitners BBQ. Better food and price.

We got the chicken special, ¼ chicken leg with one side. Chicken tasted old, like it was yesterday’s batch. On the plus side, the guy was really friendly and I liked that you could sit outside at picnic tables and smell the food cooking. Would we go back? Maybe, but not for the chicken.

I enjoyed the sandwich. It was a little large for lunch but perfect for dinner. I will definitely eat from there again. For lunch I will probably call ahead as they make the fries to order.

Went yesterday and was so disappointed! The beef ribs we had were burnt and no meat on it! The pork ribs were not cooked evenly and really fatty. I will never never come back again. It’s sad because we went last year and it was amazing !

I went back cause I thought I’d give them another shot. I really hate writing reviews like this for small businesses but I hope it’s a wake up call for the owners. Let me start off by saying the girl who helped was incredibly friendly and informative. That’s an A+ in my books. Here’s where they failed. Their wings were very undesirable to my husband and I. We love our wings so we know what good wings are. These were extremely oily, the buffalo sauce had way too much butter and the wings are tiny. I think they are the wings from the commissary that are $ 10/bag. They were also not really crispy that one would desire in hot wings. I so badly want to give them a better review but their food the two that I’ve had is just so undesirable. Please kick up your recipes and cooking methods. They have this big olé BBQ grill outside that makes them look like one of those hole in the wall legit BBQ places you hear about on the foodnetwork, but they aren’t. Also, I rarely see any customers there which is a big indicator.

We ordered ½ slab of ribs, bbq platter(chopped pork) w/mac & cheese, and cole slaw, and a slush puppie. The ribs are beef ribs, cooked well with a really tasty smokey sauce.(pls keep in mind that bbq tastes are in the eye of the beholder) We both liked it and would definitely order again. The chopped pork bbq was good, kinda like NC bbq. But I like to add sauce to that type of dish.(and if I were the one that picked it up… I would have asked for a ½ ladle of sauce on top! I will remember that next time!) The mac& cheese looked homemade good on the online pics, but it was just ok. The cole slaw(the 2nd side) was served in those tiny 1 – 2 oz cups… totally not worth the weight or value of the much larger size(approx. 1 cup) of mac&Cheese, however, it tasted homemade & was very good. I will definitely return and try one of their daily specials.(they had BBQ cheese fries today)
