It’s hard to tell if they are open from the outside b/c it’s so dark inside. Rib special was ok. The made to order guacamole was nothing special and my special margarita was so strong I had to water it down. Not the biggest menu selections.

Awful service. Seemed like a cool kids club. We were one of 5 tables in the whole place with 2 waitresses and we couldn’t get waited on. Got one drink and left. Thanks a lot.

Went to dinner around 5:15pm. Ambience, service and fellow patrons were good. We got a jalapeño margarita and a fresh squeezed lime margarita, they were both great. Husband had wet burrito and it was delicious, I had three tacos with the wagon wheel corn-corn was amazing. I would recommend the carnitas taco. Happy cinco de mayo

Agave has a really cool set up and the food was excellent. We ordered chicken nachos, jalapeño margarita, an al pastor taco, and a shrimp taco. The food was excellent but it they were a little light on the amount of meat they put on. Specifically on the nachos. However, what chicken we did get was delicious. Both the tacos were fantastic The shrimp taco had a lot of cabbage. Sort of like subway does with their lettuce. But my GF moved aside half of the cabbage and it was good. We’ll definitely be back soon. I’ll just ask for extra meat and light cabbage.

I gave this place a shot because of the reviews and I wanted Tacos in VA Beach. I will be honest when I walked in I wasn’t wowed but from the first Interaction from Ashley, the bartender and the drink quality, selection and the food service and taste I was thoroughly impressed. The attention and recommendations were great and when I got my tacos I was reminded of the SoCal style I was looking for, the cocktail drinks were crafted as advertised and the selection showed a knowledge of great seasonal taste in beers. Local feel with craft/taste that is superior and staff that is knowledgeable, comfortable and friendly. Looking forward to going back. Don’t miss happy hour.

Wow… huge supporter of locally owned… walked in today with the open sign lit @ 358pm to be welcomed by «we’re not open yet and the food will be twenty minutes» — I said«sorry I was confused by the open sign being lit up» guess we won’t be trying this place out anytime soon… why not say«hi, have a seat and order a drink??» Bummed by this guy at the front entrance * update: the owner was prompt in responding to this review so hopefully the guy at the entrance isn’t a reflection of their usual service

The bartender, Jason, is a character. He had good energy and was on top of things. Food was pretty good. Seriously folks, the pork belly tacos is no joke.

I came here twice for restaurant week. First time was on a Monday and there were only a few people at there. I ordered the Tuna Tostada, Chipotle Mussels, Pork Belly Taco, and Churros and Ice Cream. I was very impressed with the food. Everything was seasoned nicely. I definitely fell in love with the Pork Belly Taco and recommend people to try it. When I came the second time on Saturday, the food was still good but not as good as it was the first time around. It was crowded on Saturday and didn’t know if that had something to do with the quality of food. I would definitely come back here but most likely on a week day. The service is great here. The waiters are very personable.

I have had quite a few margaritas in my day and this one takes the cake! Best marg I’ve ever had! I tried some of their tacos, the Baja, the shrimp and the carnitas and they were all delicious! The place literally looks like a hole in the wall but it is so worth going in.

Agave is so good, my friends and I are going back two nights in a row to get more tacos!!! Btw, it’s not the dive bar you’ll walk into first. It’s located behind that :)

Hidden gem! I was expecting this place to be a divey smoke filled bar but it was the complete opposite. The food was tasty and authentic, our bartender was great, and it was far from the«dive bar» scene. I had the Baja fish tacos that were greatly satisfying. They use house made corn tortillas and also offer three different taco sauces on the side which are also house made. Also on Wednesdays their special is $ 3 craft beer drafts. Definitely will be returning soon :)

Wow! Awesome! 3 different homemade taco sauces and a house margarita with fresh ingredients-no mix! Friendly, accommodating staff and the best guacamole I’ve ever had. Seriously! Such a low key place for a great meal. I will def be back.

We are surprised by the quality of Agave. Inspired by west coast style tacos and the craft cocktail movement — the menu is made with the finest fresh local seasonal and sustainable ingredients available… who would of thought!!! Everything is made from scratch, even the tortillas are 100% organic non GMO corn masa made in house! Wow! Ashley at the bar is a dedicated professional and truly cares about her customers. Plus we can eat late — where else in this area can you eat late at night???

The service was good. The waitress was awesome and very nice. The food was very disappointing. It is very bland and simple I had to add salt to everything(and I don’t like salty foods). The salsa was just tomatoes and onions no spices no seasoning. The brisket taco was a large chewy slice. The pozole had no flavor I had to season it my self. It just wasn’t authentic at all and completely boring. Luckily because we were so disappointed with the pozole they removed it from our tab. But other wise this is only good for getting drinks aka pre-gaming or last stop drinks.

We were searching for a late night spot to grab dinner and came across agave. I had heard some reviews from other cxb residents and we decided to check it out. On Wednesday nights they have live music, I think it was more of a open mic night. It provided a lot of variety in music and sounds. When you walk in you see the main bar, and booths all around. We chose to sit in a booth by the back of the restaurant. The bartender Ashley came and greeted us and gave us the drink and dinner menu. We started with the pico de gallo. Very fresh! The tortillas looked like they were made in house but were a bit too salty for my taste. Over all, a nice way to start your meal off. I decided to go with a make your own bowl and I got carnitas as my meat. My handsome date decided on tacos, mahi and carne asada. While waiting for our food, they brought us a sampling of Mexican grilled corn with cream and cotija cheese. Holy crap that was tasty! Then she brought us 3 different sauces to put on our food. One was an avocado based, another chipotle and the third was habanero. I didn’t try them as I’m not a fan of spicy sauces. Our main dishes came and we were pleasantly surprised. Don’t think for a minute this is like a chain Mexican place. It’s not gonna be a ton of food. It’s fresh, clean, baja style. Unless you order a ton of tacos you’re not gonna be stuffed. My bowl was very delish. Yellow rice, Refried black beans, sour cream, pico de gallo, guac, cabbage and picked veggies.(Though I could have done w/o the pickled veggies) It’s definitely a different spot for shore drive. I feel like people from California would really like it. But that’s just my opinion. Check it out and see what it’s all about.

Had a hankering for some good tacos, so I found this little place on Unilocal.I am a HUGE fish taco fan, and my frequent travels to SoCal have taken me to some of the best spots around so I know a great fish taco. This place is hidden in the back of a shady strip mall, but that’s never turned me off before so I decided to give it a go. First, the good: Was promptly met by a hostess who helped me and my dog get seated in their patio area. She even helped by getting a bowl of water for my dog, which was above board and much appreciated. Now, the rundown: I was shocked to see that tacos were $ 4.50 a piece, which seemed steep but if it’s a REALLY great taco, then I would be ok. The thing is, the tacos were SMALL. Like, 3 bites and gone small. I ordered a pork belly and baja fish taco, and the meat contained in both of them was small to say the least. I figured the pork belly taco would make up for the small size in flavor, because c’mon, it’s friggin’ pork belly! I was wrong, as the flavors were so underwhelming it may have just been pork butt. Fish taco didn’t have any baja sauce that I could taste, and the fish breading wasn’t warm/flavorful either. Soft taco shells were cold. Chips were good but the pico de gallo was also underwhelming. They claimed it was«bottomless» but I was never offered any more. Won’t be coming back for $ 20 bucks for two tacos and a beer.

This is a dive bar. The menu is small and full of interesting tacos. These tiny tacos are nothing short of basic. I liked the bbq pork. It was a special of the day. The carnitas was also good. The chicken was OK. The trio of sauces saved them from whatever dry-out they endured. The first time I went was on a Saturday night, when the server forgot our orders and didn’t realize it until we were over it and walking out. She stopped to apologize. More recently I came for a super early dinner. They didn’t have happy hour food specials but they do have drink specials. Service was much better and the cocktails are semi-crafty. Drink up.
