The INOVA curse strikes again.
I went here because I was looking for a new PCP. I get a lot of my care through INOVA and since this was a practice close to my office with a provider with decent ratings I figured I’d go here.
What a mistake.
Dr. Durr spent the entire appointment poo poohing my issues, downplaying them, and telling me that other docs have been wrong about things for the past 10+ years. He was borderline confrontational, and dismissed symptoms I’ve had and medical allergies.
The office is very, very old. I’m talking like Mad Men without the chic. And alcohol. And cigarettes.
The African American lady at the front desk clearly hates her job, since I heard her bemoaning every phone call that came in.
This is the third PCP group I’ve tried with INOVA. I am done with trying to find a good PCP within their system since they’ve all been crap.
Going back to my old PCP.

Do not waste you time. It is impossible to communicate with the office. Place is dirty and old. Billing is wrong and impossible to fix.

Dr. Durr is my husband’s doctor and I believe he literally saved my husband’s life a year and half ago with his outstanding diagnostic skills. My husband ate a piece of fish and felt like it was stuck. He went to Dr. Durr next day and the Dr. immediately sent him for an endoscopy. Diagnosis was a total shock — he had esophageal cancer. Fast forward through Dr. Durr’s referral to oncologist team, a serious major operation called gastroesophogectomy. Dr. Durr monitored him through his recovery at home and monitored his diabetes and insulin, helping me to know what to do and when to administer the insulin dosage. Dr. Durr sent him to emergency room during his recovery and met him there. Bottom line is my husband today is well and thriving and I don’t care what people on this site say about Dr. Durr’s interpersonal skills — I want a Dr who is highly competent, knowledgeable, and good with follow up and follow through and that is Dr. Durr. He has always been pleasant to my husband and me and the fact that my husband recovered from a serious illness which has dire consequences if not treated is all the proof I need that he is 5 stars. My husband believes in Dr. Durr’s capabilities and really likes fact that Dr. Durr always calls him with results of his tests and gives him excellent medical guidance. Who could ask for more???

Dr. Durr has helped me with a major medical issue. He took time out when other doctors wouldn’t and his referrals were great. He also took the time to follow up on how the referrals were. I have never met a doctor who took as much time as he has to make sure I am healthy. My brother now uses him.

I was referred to Dr. Durr by another excellent physician who was leaving general practice to focus exclusively on surgery. Like the doctor who referred me to him, Dr. Durr is highly intelligent. As others have said, he listens patiently to whatever issues you might have and provides good advice. He is also completely up front about his level of uncertaintly, and when he is unsure, he tells you what the problem might be and assigns a probability to the different possibilities. He also makes good use of tests, and carefully monitors trends in the test results over time, so you get a strong sense that someone is looking out for you.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Durr for over 7 years. I am very pleased with the care I have received and would recommend him to others. He has a great bedside manner and takes his time to understand what is going on in my life. Most doctors have made me feel as if I am «bothering» them or wasting their time with my visit. I don’t feel that way with Dr. Durr. If you are looking for an intelligent and well educated doctor — he is the one for you.
Oh, and his staff. I can understand some of the reviews that indicate they were rude, however, I have not had a really bad experience. They may not always be the most energetic and happy people, but they are helpful and do their job efficiently.

I’ve only had great experiences with Dr. Durr. He is very patient and has good bedside manners. I often feel rushed at other doctors offices. Dr. Durr did not make me feel this way — he seemed generally concerned with my problems and took the time to talk through my options.
I would highly recommend him as a primary care physician. You won’t be disappointed.

Our experience at Dr. Durr office was lifeless. I don’t mean to be sarcastic, but the office environment is very outdated, receptionist seemed depressed and nurses are unmotivated and slightly rude .Not to mention the exotic bathroom (not sure when it was the last time it got cleaned or renovated) .
Dr. Durr himself has a very poor social skills and terrible bed side manners. He didn’t seem to remember basic information about the patient (my mom) and he ignored any information I offered to share with him about my mom’s health .
overall, don’t waist your time and find some other clinic that practice in the 21^st century.

Dr. Durr’s staff are not the most friendly but once you warm up to them they are OK. Dr. Durr himself may not have the best social skills but he is very intelligent, patient and sympathetic. He saved my dad from having a massive heart attack by calling Fairfax Hospital the same day he evaluated my dad and getting triple bi-​pass surgery scheduled for that same week. I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Durr himself.

Dr. Durr has been my Dr. for a few years and I think he is excellent. He is very knowledgeable and caring for patients. He called me personally on a Sat with the results of my annual physical. Sure the office is a little old and run down, but the bottomline is that he is a superlative doctor.

Dr Durr himself is fine as a physician but the front desk staff needs to be retrained and/​or replaced. Never have I been to a doctors office with such unpleasant and unprofessional front desk staff.

Now if i was a 70+ year old woman, i think i would give Dr. Durr a five star rating. He is fantastic with my almost 90 year old grandma who has a crappy heart. But for me, a relatively healthy 25 year old, hes who i go to when i know i have strep and just need the antibiotics.
I’ve had both positive and negative experiences (hence the three stars). He has called up and complained to an emergency center for telling me not to get my stitches out until they had reached the point where the skin had grown over them. And he has mutliple times reminded me of how to have safe sex since i’m «a blossoming young adult» (hes said that to me every time i’ve been in there since i was 18!) He doesn’t really have any social skills so its really hard to communicate with him.
My big complaint was how he handled the lump on my thyroid. Once he diagnosed that he sent me to have blood work and an ultrasound. At which point he should have said «ok go see an endocrinologist». But he didn’t. He had me do a nuclear medicine screaning (which was suprisingly fun) and then said «go see a surgeon to get it out». So i did! And scheduled my surgery. Then when i got it biopsied and was told «oh you dont have to have it out». I was completely confused! I had two weeks before my surgery and had to find someone to tell me what to do (hence my sucky endocrinologist). After all of this was over i went to see Dr. Durr for laryngitis (a perk of being a teacher!) and he said «so the last time you were in here, you had a lump on your thyroid. How did that work out for you». At which point (since i couldn’t talk) i pointed to the scar on my neck and just shook my head in disbelief
overall i think he is a knowledgable man and will do what needs to be done. I just dont think he knows anything about talking to people!
