Already I have mixed feelings about the many Game Craze stores scattered about Rochester. While I always seem to get a good deal whenever I shop, the employees are always miserable, bored, or generally rude with the exception of a select few. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst I’ve been to in terms of employee interaction and pricing. I knew I was going to be expecting higher prices considering this location is in the Eastview Mall of all places but many of their newer titles for the PlayStation, Xbox & Wii/Wii U were much higher than normal, even above what they being sold for online. In addition, they are all behind the glass counters so you have to peer over the glass just to see what is behind there and you’ll eventually need to get help by the employee to even search. While it may seem bad to have all of the newer games all behind the counters, the older games from PlayStation 2 down to NES are out for display on the shelves. Their collection of PlayStation 2 and Xbox are great with plenty of quality titles that can be a bit hard to find anywhere else. However, some of the more expensive titles that I found were overpriced by up to $ 10 at the max which can make a game worth $ 20 being sold as $ 29.99. I do however, regret not picking up some uncommon titles that were actually being sold below what they were going for but I’ll probably be back for those soon. Their GameCube collection which I am most interested in is the definition of pathetic. Their used games only take up a small rack in between the Xbox and PlayStation 2 titles while the supposed«new» ones along with accessories are locked inside a glass cabinet. I highly doubt they were new just by the sealing job and the fact they the lowest price sealed one was $ 20…best to pass unless you have money to burn. As the fye in this mall went away quite some time ago, this is really the only place you can find some decent DVD’s for about $ 2.99 each which is the same going price as in other Game Craze stores. I really did enjoy their wide selection of used ones and picked out about five movies all in great condition. They did have two overflowing bins of $ 5 sealed DVD’s which is odd not knowing where they got ten sealed copies of a DVD but for only $ 5, it’s a heck of a deal. Now I would usually rate this place a solid three but I’m downgrading because of how I was treated by the employee who was working there at the time. I initially went in with my brother where we first traded in three DVD’s, which they only took two for 75 cents each… low considering the Greece Ridge one exchanges them for much more than that but I wanted them gone so we accepted. I had amassed a nice pile of PlayStation 2 titles and DVD’s that I was carrying around while I was looking to see what else I wanted to buy but in the middle of my browsing the Wii titles, he randomly spoke up and asked if I was going to buy all those. I said I wasn’t sure yet and still deciding but his answer was that If I didn’t decide soon, he was going to have to ask us to leave the store. Quite rude? Very. I don’t know if he thought my intention was to steal the cases which was rather impossible to do anyway and they would render me useless without the discs but I can assume he probably didn’t like the way I was taking a long time to shop, I wasn’t doing anything wrong at all and have done this at other Game Craze locations and was never reprimanded for it but apparently, it’s a «crime» to walk around holding the games you are going to eventually purchase. I brushed his comment aside but did feel pressured after that to hurry up so I ended up taking some games I would have probably not bought because of money and ended up spending $ 45 dollars, that’ll take some time to earn back. On my way out, I discovered he had given me a full-screen disc copy of a movie that was widescreen. There were two copies of this movie out on display, a widescreen and a full-screen so I assume he accidentally grabbed the wrong one so I went back and told him the issue as he attempted to find it. I asked again when he claimed it was the«only copy» they had which couldn’t be true if they had two boxes so I politely inquired that there were two boxes out there so their had to be another copy somewhere. One rude sigh later he found it and I left with a polite thank you to him but nothing back from him. Overall, a nasty experience. What was startling that at the GameStop in the same mall, the two employees working there were friendly, helpful and were very polite to me, a stark contrast to what I found here. Will I be back? Most likely just for the games and movies, but I do hope if I encounter him again, he will have a change in attitude, there really was no need for all of the insulting actions towards me and my brother. If that doesn’t change, there’s always the GameStop just a short walk away, won’t have any problem shopping there again. To others planning to come here, proceed with caution.
