First off the place smells. Not like good food. The service is below par. NEVERGETLUNCH. The burgers are expensive, flavorless and dry.(I had the guacamole add bacon burger) How can that not have flavor? The breakfast is ok, but not for the price. Nothing special at all. If you like pricy bland food this is your place. I know Venus doesn’t have many options but, you are better off going to the Whataburger or Doughnut shop.

If you’re looking for a place to eat in Venus, you’re options are extremely limited! There’s this place… or Whataburger… or Subway. And the latter two seem to be afterthoughts wedged into gas stations! Atmosphere and décor: exactly what you’d expect in extraordinarily rural Venus, Texas. Old, original brick building, plank floors, corrugated metal interior walls, rustic tables and chairs, a small handful of old photographs swallowed up by the brick walls and several license plates around the top border. I would lose the license plates and get lots more of the antique photos! Overall atmosphere and décor gets three and a half stars. Then there’s the service: The one waitress in the place couldn’t handle my party of one, another table of two and another table of four. The food came out timely enough but I had to flag her down to get another roll. My water glass stayed empty during most of the meal. Fifteen minutes after I finished my meal she returned to grab my plate and offer dessert. She was friendly, but didn’t really seem to be enjoying her job. She suggested the pecan cobbler… brought it out in about two minutes and refilled my water glass… which moved service up to three and a half stars, as well. Now, the food: If you’ve read previous posts, then you realize that«if a place offers liver and onions, I’m gonna order it… and it better be good.» My last attempt(some joint in Mansfield) was completely failed. And when I looked at the plate she brought me, I was prepared to call this a fail! The liver had been breaded and fried! WHAT? Never, in all my 54 years of eating liver and onions, had anybody served it up «deep fried». But, you know what??? Not half bad! I might even try it at home sometime! Sautéed onions were good. The brown gravy was from a mix, but what do you expect? The spinach was really good, but its kinda hard to mess up spinach. The fried yellow squash was the frozen, pre-breaded Sysco stuff. The rolls were homemade. The first one that came with the meal was too tough and dry to eat! I asked the waitress if she’d bring me another one… she did and it was perfect, piping hot, fluffy, buttery, etc. I asked her if the pecan cobbler was homemade and was told that it was from Sysco, as well! Expecting it to suck, I was very pleasantly surprised that it was actually very good! If I’m in Venus during lunch time, I’ll eat here again.
