Papa Chang and staff are friendly, accommodating, and personable. Tipps provides a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere with tasty food and drink. It is a staple of downtown Ventura and has stood strong where other businesses have come and gone. Ventura has a lot to offer in way of Thai cuisine but Tipps should most certainly not be overlooked. Come for the food, stay for the family oriented fun. Thank you Tipps. This local lady certainly appreciates you. So much so in fact that I will be celebrating my birthday there tonight.

overall, it’s a fine place for generic uninspired thai-like cusine. They obviously use canned/frozen veggies in their curry and stingy with rice.

First visit for dinner. Have been to lunch here once before for a business lunch. Good food but nothing to make it 5-star. We had a party of six adults after a day of hiking on Santa Cruz Island so we were starving. We had planned to go to SAVORYTHAI but it was the day after Christmas and they were closed(yes that is our favorite in Ventura). But we are glad we tried TIPPS. At least now I can write a review. The six of us all tried something different and then we shared a bit. I had the drunken noodles with tofu medium spice. It was pretty spicy but good. We also all shared a tofu coconut soup called Tom Kha. Just the right spiciness mixed with the sweet coconut milk. Warmed us all up after our long day of hiking and cold boat ride back to the harbor. We also shared two orders of vegetable egg rolls which came with a very good sweet sour sauce. A complaint here is why is there not a fresh spring roll? The other Thai restaurants in town all offer a nice cold rice paper wrapped veggies roll with either tofu or shrimp. That really needs to be on this menu. The atmosphere is basically what you would expect at a Thai restaurant. A little gaudy, quite noisy, tables close and crammed together but service was prompt. They do need to learn how to communicate about spice levels. It’s hard to just say medium spice because sometimes that’s fire hot. I know not everyone has a scale of say 1 to 5 but our food server just could not understand what we were asking for when we stated a little less than medium for one dish or a little more then medium for another. That’s our only complaint as a group. I would return but probably only if Savory Thai was closed again. Sorry but that’s just the newest in town and really has Rice, Rice by Mama and Tipps all beat hands down.

Stopped by for lunch on a weekday. Quite affordable but below average overall. Best part of the meal was the Arnold Palmer. Unfortunately never got a refill. I had the pad Thai with tofu. Came with a small side salad and a chicken rice soup which was unrecognizable as chicken soup. I had to ask her what it was. Salad seemed like a leftover from a larger family salad. Nothing tasted fresh. Tofu was soft. Rest of Pad Thai was unremarkable. Service was adequate. The table was sticky when we sat down. Had to return a dirty cup. Men’s bathroom smelled like a public toilet on the beach. Really a mess.

oh my god, seriously? These guys use all fresh ingredients without any of the chemical garbage that most thai restaurants pour into the food. All the soups are made by in house bone broth. This place is culinary art and the owners(33 years!) refuse to sacrifice on quality or jack up the price. Not only is this best thai place in ventura, it may be my favorite outside of thailand itself

We found this place just strolling down the street. It’s a fun atmosphere with TVs and a huge portrait of the King and Queen of Thailand. Friendly service. Prompt service. Delicious food. We all three enjoyed. I had a curry. One of us had the pork satay. All of it in nice quantities and done quite well.

Pad Thai was great but I was told the mango sticky was out of season, but the funny thing was I just had it last night… hmm very interesting. So if you’re looking for a good time without mango sticky rice DO go here

I have been here a number of times. I’m a local and this is my go-to Thai place. Super friendly service and awesome food. We’ve(my man and I) modified a few dishes in the past and they’re extremely flexible. Great drinks too. I get the House Margarita everytime!

I have been eating here for years. Frankly compared to other local Thai restaurants I have always preferred Tipps. Why… Because the food is consistently good and service is good. For example tonight I had Naem Sod(ground pork with lime and ginger) and mint leave mixed vegetables. Very nice and complex flavors accompanied with delicious brown rice. My son had Tom Kha Gai and a Kang Ka Ree that he absolutely loved. The price is very reasonable for what you get; highly recommended!

I had a very nice noodle dish when I went to Tipps. The food was freshly prepared and the facility was very nice. They have an atmosphere that is peaceful and beautiful, especially some of the paintings. This would be 5 stars if not for the poor service. When I was there in the mid afternoon the waitresses were more concerned with gossiping with bar patrons then asking if I needed anything. I had to get up a couple of times to ask for hot sauce and a refill. I wouldn’t mind that the waitresses were talking but I felt that it would be better if they had in the back instead of out in the open

This is officially my new favorite AUTHENTIC Thai Restaurant! Barbie, our server, I’m assuming one of the family members that owns the place… Was supppppper helpful and provided great recommendations. Also, she hooked it up w/Spicy Thai peppers-which were definitely sweet to me, the fact that she went the extra mile to provide excellent customer. We told her it was our FirstTime to Tipps and she was very helpful! We ordered the ordinary Chicken pad Thai and Yellow Curry…&for an appetizer the spring rolls fried! It was enough to feed 2 people. For drinks we order the Tipps-Tinni and Thai Iced Tea both very delicious drinks. Our bill for 2 people came to about $ 48. We will definitely be back for the Fri/Sat Special and to visit and chat with Barbie !

Excellent pad Thai! They are wonderful! I’m not a fan of mango on the sticky rice So I asked them to replace it with their coconut ice cream and it was insanely delicious!
