Great coffee. But best of all, the staff is ridiculously friendly. The staff remembered me after just a couple visits. Try getting that at a Starbucks. I tried out the open mic. and really liked the music. Most people could actually sing although a couple could use some music lessons. Depending on who shows up that day, just a fun night.

Every day for the past 2 weeks I’ve been missing Java Joe’s. Not only the best cup o Joe and espresso in Ventura, Franko most especially. His spirit inspires and his open heart a rare find. The loss of an anchor venue in the area, has been a wrecking ball. Will miss Java Joe’s forever. Thank you Franko for holding out as long as you did!

Got a coffee, an orange, and A DOPE60’S ERARECORD(ALBUM). I have to admit, I bought it for the cover art, but I kind of like the music too. The coffe was great and Franco the owner is super cool. They do a lot there — live music, art sales, etc. Really cool spot so be sure and check them out.

Spicy chai! Have you been in a search for it in west Ventura County? This is the only joint that serves chai the way Emeril would want it, with some BAM! None of this sweet or dirty stuff everyone else seems to be throwing at you, although you can opt for it. Me, I prefer the spicy version. The spicier, the better! It’s unfortunate that they are in a location that has been abandoned by Century Theaters. Must have changed the foot traffic patterns since the theater left for«The Collection» just a bit South on the 101fwy. Located across from Toys r Us, their hours have certainly changed. What the barista stated was very different than what operating hours were posted on the entry way. Hopefully Java Joe’s finds a new niche & stays in business. Cool aesthetics inside, friendly staff and great tasting products make it a worthwhile visit! Hours of Operation: 7am-4pm weekdays; 830am-4pm weekend

On my search for the perfect Chai latte, I have found the one that spanks the competition square on the cheeks. Your choices are sweet, spicy, or dirty and I’m partial to the spicy. Sometimes, when I go to bed at night, already dreading the journey to work the next morning, I wonder to myself, what will make waking up tomorrow worth it? And then I remember, I have an Abe in my pocket. It will be a spicy chai day. It would be so cool if something amazing went into where the movie theater was so that this place can get the patronage it so badly deserves.

This place is what it is, and it is not Starbucks. I rated 5 stars pretty much because its so unique and has that hometown local ambience that is hard to find. Perhaps what a local coffee place was before there was Starbucks. I have been around awhile and remember what it was to chat with a cashier for a bit. You just don’t experience that anymore. Here you do! Our ‘barista’ chatted with the people in front of me. They seemed jovial and appreciative. When my turn in line came up, I was able to chat a bit and it felt nice. This whole place is relaxed and nice. There is a little stage and the pastries and cookies are SOGOOD. Clearly not made in mass quantities and the Almond Joy cookie, which I got, didn’t sugar me out like the ones at Starbucks or anywhere else that ships them in by the truckload. I get kind of a foo-foo drink, a decaf one-pump vanilla latte. It didn’t seem to be a problem for the girl to make and it turned out extra hot and satisfying. Their coffee tastes stronger than Starbucks, but I noticed they use the same flavorings, for those who want a comparison. I was in finding out about the open mic nites as there is nowhere in Ventura that has kids karoke or anything close, most starting late and in bars, and my 6 yr old loves to be on stage and sing. There is a little stage and they are pro local community with their open mic nites starting at only 6 pm. Still a little late for a child, so I was told they are also open to renting out the space after hours(I was told they close at 3), having done so in the past to locals for private jam sessions and even a childs fashion show birthday party! This place is cool!

I used to come here alot and always had the guy with dark hair making drinks but went here on Sunday morning on the way to work and it was disastrous. We ordered a hot black tea and a chai latte. I got some kind of coffee latte and the girl there said they were out of all tea except some type of chocolate(?) tea so just didn’t make the other drink! I told her my drink did not taste right and she dumped something else in it and gave it back to me. I asked her if I could just get my money back for both drinks(especially since she only made one!) and she just stared at me. At this point we were late for work so I just left. I cannot believe how poor the service was. I called the place the next day to speak to a manager but got no reply. I’m sad to have lost one of my favorite coffee shops, but I know if I’m not happy with my drink or if they were out of something at starbucks or coffee bean they would make it right. Seems like poor employee training in making the drinks and in customer service but maybe that goes from the top down if they won’t respond to an unhappy customer. If you see a chick working there, I would recommend turning around and leaving! Oh and maybe you should erase that long list of teas if you don’t have them! Don’t have people pay for something you don’t have then refuse to refund their money.

I’ve only been here once, and I’m willing to concede that every place has off days, but I’m also not willing to return to Java Joe’s to find out if I’m wrong. The design of the place is very cramped, both where the line forms and the seating area. I was third in line when I walked in, and I was almost pressed against the door. At least there were DVDs and comic books to look at while I was waiting, and I waited a LONG time. But more about that later. The seating area is small, and the acoustics of the room forced me to have to listen to the conversations of the other patrons. And their conversation topics were irritating(politics, religion, the beauty of being pregnant, blah, blah, blah) but I can’t blame the establishment for that. But I needed to get some work done and there was no place to go to be out of hearing range. The girl who waited on me was very nice, but was either frazzled or distracted or dim, or a combination of the three. She was alone and had to ring up the orders and then make the drinks and get the pastries. It took FORever. After the two people in front of me had to repeat their orders to her a few times, I vowed to keep mine simple, but I still had to repeat my order twice, and she still got it wrong. I didn’t point it out because I didn’t have the energy to go over it again. It had already taken nearly 15 minutes to get up to the cash register, and I need my caffeine fix. They have a nice variety of pasties, but there were flies in the pastry display case, landing on the food, so nothing looked totally appetizing. I choose a scone, which looked fairly unmolested by flying vermin, but was handed a biscotti, which was mediocre. As was the coffee. Usually little places like this rock the brewed coffee, but this was just okay. No better than McDonalds McCafe, but twice the price and three times the wait. There are other coffee places nearby, like Latte 101 and evil Starbucks. I can see how Java Joes might be a fun hangout when there’s an act onstage, but I wouldn’t go back for the menu offerings or the service.

Was waiting for a movie to start at the Century Theaters 16 when I decided to grab a spicy chai at Java Joes. Overall a great chai and I get chai everywhere I go. Love the way they have the café setup like a tgeater with some of their seats. They also have a rating board where you can rate the movies currently playing at the theater. The reason for the mediocre rating from me is the customer service. The young woman that took my ordered was too busy talking to her friend instead of taking my order. When her friend acknowledged my presence only then did she received me with a snare. Really?! Great chai though!

how cute is this place!?! I came in not expecting anything but an ice green tea. I always had a thing to support the local mom and pop places, and this was no exception. I walk in and straight to the counter. I was kindly greeted by a female who kindly took my order. They ran out of already brewed ice green tea, so i had to wait about 5 mins. I didn’t mind the wait since i was already having a great day, and it gave me time to look at my surroundings This place has a lot of character! very cute and cozy. I even notice on the wall behind me that there was a board with a list a movies that the customers rated. how cute is it to get movie ratings from the locals. If I’m ever in the area I would definitely be back! :)

i like independent owned coffee shops that have character. this one definitely did, with mishap furniture, handmade signs, and a small makeshift stage for live bands. i got an americano which i found delicious; will have to go back and try the vibe and live music to really be able to tell if i like it here. :) so far theyve got my vote!

I come here at random, but often. The atmosphere is mellow(inspired by Jazz) and every one of their cookies I’ve tried was great. Some evenings you might catch live entertainment, others a circle of people in what looks like a book club of regulars. I count myself a regular, too.

I stopped by here because I need coffee for the road on my way home from Santa Barbara to L.A. The mocha was really good, and the cranberry scone I got was huge and very fresh. Can’t complain. Service was very friendly and the coffee did the trick.

Cool, handmade clothing for sale near the entrance; passed these and the pastries are rows of theatre seats directed around a stage for live entertainment performances. Local art decorates the walls. Setting my backpack on the couch near the many windows, I can tell before sitting it’s comfortable. The sky is clear and the music playing reminds me of somewhere far away(nice.) I move to order. The coffee is okay, but the raspberry shortbread is delicious. I sit for a while, work and enjoy my snack. The place is quiet, pleasant, and the air is fresh(loving the fact that here’s no coffee odor here.) Work done, cookie gone, I’m satisfied. I’ll be coming baack…

We plan our annual vacation in the Ventura area and I have watched Java Joe’s grow over the years — it’s nice to see an independent survive these trying times. Our latest visit brought new surprises — open mike on Sunday nights! Cool(and affordable) trinkets and gifts, local’s artwork and of course the usual friendly staff. Loved the movie review voting board, highlighting the lineup at the nearby multi plex a scones throw away. Java Joe’s is a fun spot to get the local buzz. Drink choices are current and plentiful, prices are affordable and they seem to always be open when you need them! Why commit your hard earned dollars to support cookie cutter corporate capitalism when you can support real deal caring local businesses.

Remember the Coffee bar in So I Married a Axe Murder? Thats this place without Mike Meyers, or bad poetry(«Harriet– Hare ee et, loveable lover of HAggus.») Good coffee in a cool atmosphere. Before or after a movie stop by and get your caffine buzz on. I had the Vanilla Chai latte– Mmmm very good. They have great live music on Fridays. They had a artist named Austin preforming great Dylan and Beatles covers– Sounded really good. Check it out.
