$ 12 dollars for a chichen salad sandwich. It was okay but tiny. I was starving after a $ 12 dollar sandwich. I mean, at least give me a bag of chips for that price. My friend ordered the veggie sandwich and that was 11 dollars. They actually heated up the avacado… gross. Their cotton tee shirts are $ 98 dollars, and I saw a pair of insulated pants for $ 600. So basically if you like to get way over charged for stuff, go here. I will never go back, and don’t recomend it

Great coffee great atmosphere and great staff overall the bar is taste here know how to make a solid cup of coffee. My only complaint depending what hour or day you come in is the car parking. Motorcycle parking is amazing. Great place to also take a quick photo or just chill for a couple of hours

A solid 4-stars on the merits of easy to find, plenty of cool swag, and bikes, and a decent latte. I decided to stop in on my Saturday ride up the coast. My Harley seemed a little out of place parked next to the tiny café bikes, small liter sport bikes, and a few of the relics around the coffee/merc shop. There’s a ton of hipster looking, groomed beard, pressed denim jacket wearing, coffeehouse types hanging out with their respective crews, sipping on craft coffee beverages and bottled juice and solving the worlds’ problems via snarky Instagram posts. I just wanted to hydrate and check the place out. Scratched my itch, and I wasn’t blown away, but I wasn’t disappointed. I got a pretty good iced matcha latte with almond milk. Solid folks behind the coffee bar with smiles and quick to help out. Price wasn’t bad at about $ 5 – 6 for a drink. Plenty of places to spread out and lounge, read a book or mag, and/or converse with the local moto gangs(by gangs I mean scooter trash, in the nicest of ways). Generally, the people were all nice. The merchandise is a bit pricey, and the Deus stuff is a little over-worn by non-moto people in my opinion, but I have a couple t-shirts I have thought were super cool, so I won’t judge. There’s a few demo bikes in the merch shop… don’t touch them… but they’re super cool one-off’s, or specialty bikes. There’s all kinds of moto relics and art work around too. So if you ride, and drink coffee… this place may kinda be a motorcycle wayfarer’s heaven. If you’re hip, cool, and a little weird, you’ll probably like it too. If you ride a boss scooter, have a candied paint job helmet, and a $ 500 jacket… please god check yourself before you wreck yourself. Ride safe party people… the pavement is not forgiving.

After a bad experience at my new local, I felt compelled to write about how great my old local was. Great staff, beautiful shop, fantastic coffee and tasty food. This is my favorite coffee spot in LA and I’ll still drive 45 mins the odd time just to get back there. Might have to just move back into the area!

This is one of my favorite shops in Venice. I bought a nice fish surfboard and am very happy with it. Stefan and Spencer are always very helpful and the BBQ events are a lot of fun! Not sure how this place can get a bad review? Maybe some people are looking just for a boring motocycle shop… this is so much more, they combined 2 passions of mine in one shop surfing and riding bikes — just perfect!

Coffee joint meets motorcycle shop slash occasional music/event venue? Sold. This is probably my favorite place to get coffee on the entire Westside(and my go-to when I lived in Venice). Aside from the great concept, the drinks are all high quality, the employes are cool, and there’s no headache of metered parking, since there’s a small lot in the back. I love coming here to catch up on work and drink one of their giant cups of specialty tea or hot chocolate in the evenings(since I don’t drink caffeine past 12:30 — insomniac problems). I actually can’t comment on their food since I’ve never tried it, but it looks damn good. And it’s very dog friendly, which I love(the other day a happy Brussels Griffon was sitting on their counter). The motorcycle/surf shop portion is nice to browse(it’s expensive, but the style is on point), and if you’re lucky enough to catch an event here, it’s an awesome venue, especially in the summer. The only reason I can’t give Deus the 5-star-rating I desperately want to give them is because they don’t close off the inner part of the shop on cold days, which is unfortunate.(It’s basically half indoors/half outdoors — great in the summer, but if you’re a weenie about the cold like I am, it’s not a fun time when the temperatures dip.) Other than that, it’s a great place with a great vibe. If you want a high quality cup of coffee with great ambiance on the Westside, this is your spot!

I try to get to Deus at least once every two weeks… THESTORE– this is one of those places(at least for me) where you walk around saying«I’ll take one of those and one of those and… Oh wow, one of these». It looks like an amazing apartment of a friend with impeccable taste and eclectic style. Great shirts and tees that feel really nice(brushed cotton) and offer unique prints. I always gets tons of compliments when I wear their shirts. Other items such as pants, jeans, are cool too but I– haven’t actually purchased any to date. Accessories here are also ultra awesome: trucker hats, sunglasses, and even beach bags. I’ve bought several items and they wear nicely, look great and always impress. THECAFE– super nice people, great coffee drinks, a relaxed vibe means that you can chill here on a weekday morning and get some work done. If you’re looking to add a few unique, hip, eclectic items to your wardrobe while browsing a sort of neat lifestyle space– Deus ex Machina is the place for you. Parking is an issue so plan accordingly. Peace!

Deus Ex Machine is a hip little coffee shop slash motorcycle gear store near one of the big intersections in Venice. Upon Googling the place, I was confused as to what it actually is, but half the location is a store, and the other half is a coffee shop. The menu is pretty simple… they have some pastries and sandwiches, as well as coffee. The coffee is good, pretty average-priced. They also have bottled juices you can buy(that aren’t made on the premises). The juices are good, but are about $ 8 each. I’ve had zuchinni bread a few times, which was a bit dry, but if you’re hungry, what can you do. I will say that flies fly in and out of where the food is displayed, which is kind of gross, but since it’s open air, I guess that can be expected. I’ve never had issues finding seating, although I expect it would be packed on weekend mornings or peak coffee times. There’s a nice little outdoor patio with free WiFi. Note: I would avoid parking in the lot. It’s extremely small and tight, so I would just park nearby. Around the corner there’s a little residential area with street parking… just check the signs and make sure it’s allowed that time of day.

The place is all about atmosphere. Open air café hidden on the corner of a major intersection in Venice. If this place was on Abbot Kinney it would be constantly packed. Café has a good selection of standard baked goods for breakfast that switches to decent cold and hot sandwiches for lunch. Sandwiches are pretty filling with vegetarian options. Every now and then they have a barbecue which is pretty nice. Pastries are pretty standard. Nothing remarkable. The yogurt and granola or simple toast seems to be the most popular. The coffee is pretty standard. No soy here. Only almond as an option. Only one power strip(near the sofa) which keeps the computer campers to a minimum(yay!). A few regulars but mostly people looking to buy clothing with the name of the store on it. So it goes.

Deus Ex Machina appears to be many things, when in fact it’s really just one thing. Incredible! Where else in Venice — or anywhere — can you step up to the counter and say, «Hi, I’d like a Latte, a chocolate croissant and a helmet.»? Okay, I didn’t buy a helmet, but you really can get one to hold your brie and jam sandwich, fresh juice and wet suit.(Don’t get jam in your wet suit! Just don’t.) The art in my latte was beautiful, and the delicate leaf motif made me sad that California’s in a drought. The croissant was as big as one of their motorcycle’s seats, and the chocolate was as dark and bitter as my heart. The chocolate pinstripes ringing the croissant completely coated my hands and face. I looked like a grown-ass man toddler, and I didn’t even care. It was delicious — being a man toddler. After my chocolate facial, It took all of my willpower to not buy a tee or a hat. The designs are effortlessly sharp and fun. I think it’s ’cause more than a few reminded me of the playful hand-hewn work of one of my favorite painters — Margaret Kilgallen. The café is simply dripping with motorcycles, so I didn’t feel too bad about missing the garage on this trip. The Deus bikes are simply gorgeous. If I had visited the garage, I’m pretty sure I’d be sitting on a café racer in Arizona, asking myself, «How did we get here?» P. S. Don’t be a Deux Bag. The staff are super nice, so tip them well! I don’t care if they have shops in Europe!

A relaxing to grab a coffee or tea. It’s got an outdoor/indoor seating area. Great place to bring your dog with you to sit on your computer and take in the fresh air. It’s a very SoCal place to go. Hippy scene, organic, laid back. So if you’re in town and want the full experience check this place out. The tea was okay, nothing spectacular. The chai tea was a bit too spicy for my liking.

I work down the street and always wondered about Deus. People in the area are wearing their clothing and I even spoke with a fellow stand up paddler, Slater Trout, about this place. Slater is young and hip, so I respect his opinion about what is cool. He said the environment is what brings him here. I can totally see why. The parking can be tricky and both times I was there, I got lucky with a spot. Seems like this place is packed all day and a lot of free lancers doing work on their laptops or meeting people for business. I am not a biker nor care about motorcycles, but the vibe is cool and the ice mochas are great! The baristas are friendly and have good service. This is one of my fave spots to hang out now, when I study.

Great spot! I’ve been coming here for about six months now. The staff is all super friendly, and there’s not a high turnover like you’ll find at other coffee shops. The atmosphere is great, with good jams and a bunch of cool motorcycles positioned around the café/store. There’s a rolling wall that opens up to all of the outside, bringing in the breeze and light. It’s dog friendly as well, which is another plus. If you’re coming to work, be aware there’s pretty much no outlets. Favorite spot in Venice!

Coffee shop review: Such an interesting shop. The coffee bar is coupled with a bike shop that is attached to the shop area. The staff is super friendly, and even offered a pastry during closing(super yummy).

Really cool in the sense that it’s very different from most coffee shops out there! Successfully combines a café, motorcycle shop, and boutique! If I was a guy I think I’d have much more appreciation for this place, simply because the boutique is for men and I know close to nothing about motorcycles. This left the café for me to explore, and the menu is small but delicious! They have a selection of sandwiches, breads, various breakfast foods, and snacks that all look to be fresh and yummy! I had a flat white with almond milk and it was delicious! We also ordered a cold-brew which wasn’t nearly as strong as the barista made it out to be. Cool location, but because of the prices and the limited menu, it’s not top on my list.

Cute place with coffee, baked goods, beach-moto-clothing, and fancy accessories for the hipsters. I like the atmosphere because it’s more like inside meets outdoors — the café connects to the outside with its wide open door space. The coffee drinks are good, too. I like sitting here and just relaxing while I take shopping breaks in between. It’s fun to people watch as well. So whenever I’m in town, I hit this place up.

If you’re an enthusiast of killer motorcycles, and great coffee, then look no further. The breakfast looked amazing but nursing my hangover I just needed coffee. It is very smooth, and expertly done. I always go for Americanos so if those are smooth then you know it’s done well. The bikes in the shop — if you are into the café racer style — these are a thing of beauty. They clothing is also really cool but on the expensive side. Great place I just wish I lived closer.

Equal parts motorcycle shop, fancy café, and biker fashion boutique. I don’t know anything about bikes, but it really seems like all three missions are equally prioritized here. The coffee will do right by any coffee snob, and the menu is the kind that combines exotic fruit compotes with cheeses you rarely think about, and they do that fancy bread with the crust that’s so sharp it’ll shred your mouth. Sometimes they’re barbecuing lamb in the parking lot. Also they just had a bin sale on their own clothing label, Deus, that looked like some Rodeo Drive men’s wear but ruggedized for biker use. I’m told there are often people with laptops and flip flops discussing business plans, trade deals, and probably trips to Tahoe, etc. Utterly perplexing blend of purposes, but the café is awesome. Also everyone who works there is beautiful – it’s like some movie exec’s farm team for hot guys who aren’t quite ready for the big screen.

Stopped here after having lunch at the local gourmet German sausage and beer place(Wurst something) and it is just a delightful bit of cultural fun. It seems to have an Australian feel and is a mix of an informal coffee shop, with well made coffee drinks, and pastries, and a retail store for dirt bikes and riding clothes related to that activity. As others have noted the outside seating is well done and is toward the back so away from the direct traffic on Lincoln Blvd. As others have noted, a delightful hipster feel but not uninviting to those less hip of us in the larger population. I think that may be the Australian cultural influence creating a more«live and let live» vibe but whatever it is, if I lived in the area or a nice place to stop in general and enjoy a coffee drink or an herbal tea while soaking up a little cool local vibe before heading on to one’s next destination. ;-)

I love this place! At the cross street and the epitome of cool and awesome is Deus Ex Machina. If you’re wondering where that is, specifically, it’s on Lincoln Blvd. and Venice in West Los Angeles. What looks like an old Conroy’s flower shop, you can find decent coffee, a place to read, and some of the best clothing for a man. The Coffee Shop Area: The folks here serve up a very small menu of drinks and pastries for those who wish to lounge around for a bit. They offer wifi if you ask, and the drinks are made quickly. Many of their pastries tend to disappear quickly, as people want to sit and nosh a bit. Most patrons are those who bring their pets, or ride in with their nice cars or bikes. You’ll note a disproportionate number of European bikes here like Triumphs. The crowd tends to follow that style as well. Seating is mostly outside at large tables(about 15 – 20), where shade is most likely going to fall onto you. There’s are a few seats inside(about 6 – 10). So bring a jacket and get a warm drink, despite your inclination to get a cold drink because you’re, well, from Southern California. The Clothes and Store: While this is an Australian company with their only North American storefront being in LA, you can find some of their clothes at Nordstrom’s and other retailers. The benefit of coming here is that you have a larger variety, and get to see all their new items. They have stuff that is straight-up rugged. No joke. This stuff will last. This isn’t Forever 21, and throw away clothing. Many of the products are high end-Baxter hair products, Red Wing shoes, vintage-looking helmets, surfboards and wetsuits, and jackets that will go well with your motorcycle. Many of these designs look vintage, as I spotted a sweater with elbow pads. Damn, I missed you elbow pads. Bolt Distribution in Costa Mesa seems to be their retailer and producer for this area and North America. It’s helpful to know that because you know it’s sourced to a local American company. Other Things To Note: This may be where motorcyclists come to chill out, especially the hip 30-something’s when they’re done dressing up at The Huntley or want to pretend they don’t have money. You’ll note that the company is Australian, and has a long history of making art out of everything they do. Their motorcycles belong in museums, as they are finished to look like they’re all out of a catalog. Note that this place isn’t for the average foodie or person looking to chill out at a café for a few hours basking in desserts. Deus has a local neighborhood feel, with limited seating, and fulfills a niche market for those who have an edge. It’s a place to have a conversation and feel manly without a beer. The Gist: I love that there’s a manly store and they fulfill that notion with a trendy blue-collar feel. It reminds me of why I love parts of Long Beach and biker culture. I’ll definitely be back, specifically with like-minded friends who can appreciate the Deus Ex Machina culture, attention to detail and branding.

Great outside seating, baked goods and cool men’s clothing that is reasonably priced. It definitely has a bit of a hipster feel. The atmosphere is very relaxed and there were several people sitting outside and enjoying a tea or baked goods. All their food looked excellent. When I inquired about where their food comes from, I was informed that it comes from Superba. My husband has bought several jeans and shirts from this brand and they are really great quality and fit incredibly well. Worth checking out whether you are shopping for your man(or yourself if you are a man) or want a casual bite to eat in a rustic chic environment.

Deus don’t play. The premier class of motorbike racing is served up here on race Sundays. And it’s none of that ridiculous FoxSports crap… the kids here show races via the proper package. They stream the pre-race chatter, too. There’s beers and a BBQ out back, not to mention all of the fabulous bikes and eclectic crowd. Why wouldn’t you hang out here on Sundays, is the only question.
