Utopia Salon and Day Spa

I had my hair done at a previous salon and it turned out horrible. My hair was super bleached and brassy. Just not a good look against my skin tone! So based on reviews, I came here, to Utopia. The first hairdresser did a great job. The brassy-​ness was gone but it was still a bit too blonde for my taste. So I called the salon the following day and spoke to the owner. She was nice about it and allowed me to come in the next day. And I am glad to say that I am finally happy and content with the color of my hair. Not too blonde, not too dark.
I am looking forward to getting a massage or facial in the future.

Called the salon to see if I could book a same day appointment for my mother’s birthday. They were very accommodating and helpful in taking me through the process. I live in North Carolina and so it was important for me to talk to friendly customer service in orders to make arrangements for a deep tissue massage for my mother. It was her first massage ever and she loved every bit of it.
They also filled out the form for my mother ahead of time because she is not a native English speaker and I knew it would be difficult for her to walk in alone without any help. It meant a lot to me that they would help ease the process for her and talk with me through the entire form to help fill out what allergies she had a previous history of surgeries so that she can just walk in and sign the paper.

I have been here a few times over the last couple of years for massages and facials and I plan to return. I have had very positive experiences here. I have had three different massage therapists and each were great. I have had Mo (Maureen) on different occasions and her facials are 5 stars. She includes a hand/​foot rub while your mask works its magic. And she plays Enya… which I really enjoy. Reminds me of the 90’s I guess. Just can’t beat a facial to Enya. Anyway, I usually plan to book a bit in advance if it is for multiple services or with multiple people but I have had massages booked with some late notice which is nice and not easy to do around town (I know, I have tried).
One time when I went there with my sister for massages and facials there was a scheduling mix up and they were really great about it and gave me a give certificate for a massage! I thought that was really cool of them!
Anyway, I would recommend this place for spa services and highly recommend Mo for a facial!

I picked this salon because of the great reviews but also because when I called with questions the front desk lady was very sweet and helpful. She remembered me when I came in for my appointment and the salon availability was really great.
My stylist was Mallory who helped me choose a color that would work with my complexion and be low maintenance. I wanted a big change in length and she listened and addressed all my concerns.
I am very happy with the outcome, my stylist was friendly and skilled, and first time customers get a gift bag with a product coupon, shampoo sample and some chocolate!
Would recommend and will return.

I went here to get an eyebrow wax by Maureen. She did such a great job! She verified with me to make sure I got the best wax and even made suggestions for the future. I will definitely be back to see here!

I came to this salon due to a long wait at my regular hairdresser. Never again! I went to Mallory for a cut and a balayage coloring. What I got was the worst haircut I have every gotten. I have been trying to grow my hair for over two years and I asked Mallory to «barely take any off» and she took off over an inch (probably up to two inches in some spots). She also put in very heavy layers that were extremely uneven. The back was also uneven (with a 1″ difference across the back!). I looked like I had two different layers of hair and there was no blending. Additionally, Mallory did the coloring before she cut my hair and so she cut most of the new color off, with no blending up towards the top of my head.
I ended up having to go to a different salon for them to fix the cut and will have to go back again to get the color fixed. (due to the uneven-​ness, the stylist had to cut off almost all of the new color off). The new stylist completely agreed about the poor quality of the haircut, and commented that it looked like a bad haircut that was an attempt to cover up by making it worse (with way over texturizing). She was also shocked that I had requested balayage and didn’t even recognize my hair color as that.
I will give credit to Lisa, the salon owner. Even though I have never done it before, I called to complain the next day and ask for my money back. She was very apologetic and offered to refund my haircut. I appreciate that service, but will not be returning to this salon.

Megan did my hair awhile back and she was absolutely amazing! I was going from a really dark purple to a light «ginger» orange, and she pulled it off perfectly.
I had called around to other salons and they insisted it would not be possible to accomplish that drastic of a color change in one day. It was indeed a very long, many stepped process and Megan was so patient throughout. It was so nice to have someone who was really passionate and loved their job, and wasn’t just in it for the paycheck. She was as excited as I was to see the results, and was sure to get it to the shade I was looking for in just one session, without killing my hair!

I received a Brazilian from the esthetician Mo and I have to say she is by far the best I have been to! She is fast but still thorough and goes as far as to tweeze any little strays left behind (which is usually only one or two). I always feel like a million bucks climbing off of her table. Molly does my hair and she is a true artist. She listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly that. VERY satisfied. Mani the nail tech does beautiful designs in her nail art and is always on trends with current styles, holidays and new techniques. My gel manicure lasts the expected two weeks no problem and she always remembers who I am and what I like. All in all I have to say that if you want a rock star service Utopia is the place for you!

My mom and I went for a post-​holiday massage and were able to schedule the day of which was really nice. We both received good massages and it was reasonably prices. The masseuse was able to help my mom with specific issues she wanted to address in her neck and she will probably go back. Overall, a good experience.

Molly is fantastic! I’ve been looking for a good salon in Vancouver for a while, and I finally found one. I would definitely recommend Utopia to my friends.

Four hours isn’t enough! I could live at this place if they would let me. I felt blissful and beautiful when I left and have told everyone who will listen about THE best massage ever and my glowing skin and nails speak for themselves. Friendly staff who don’t push products on you and prices that make the spas in PDX look outrageous (because they are!) make this my new favorite place in the entire world. The only thing I would like to see added at this place would be better sound proofing (I could hear staff laughing and talking during my massage and facial) and some lunch or snack options for those who can’t spend a four hour stretch without eating. Just pack something to nosh on for now and get going to Utopia!

Amazing! I got a mani/​pedi from Mani Veaux and she is so sweet. Did such a great job that I will be coming back here from now on.

I had a great experience at this salon. Karlie cut my hair, and did a great job! She gave me info about how to properly care for my hair without me even asking. I love that she took that extra step! Thank you Karlie. I love my new hair!!!
I would have given a five star if they would honor Military Discounts. That’s my only criticism. I believe it’s really important for all companies to show that type of gratitude towards military families

Moni and Sierra are awesome! We are never disappointed. My daughter and I come in for nails and hair. Moni is so creative with her nail art. She can think outside the box and even remembered my daughter talking about Minecraft nails the last time we were in, so she was ready for her this time! Sierra always does what I ask, and when I don’t know what to do, she always knows what will look different, but fabulous (I like to change things up on a regular basis). We have naturally frizzy hair, and every time we are here we get a new tip on how to deal with it… technique or product. We are so happy with these two!

UPDATE: I just washed my hair 2 days after getting it done and now it’s coming off in orange splotches. Definitely not professional. They also told me that they don’t recommend bleaching and dying hair which is why they never offered it to begin with even though PLENTY of their staff and clients had horrible bleach jobs or colorful hair, really Utopia? They also made my Mom and I sign a release from as if belittling me because of my age and trying to mooch money from my Mom. I have never heard of a salon using contracts against minors/​parents, one word: SCAM. Please beware when coming here, I did see a couple ladies when I were there who’s results were actually very pretty. So it’s going to be hit or miss here if you’re doing corrective color. ALSO I’ve paid about 110 in the past for a bleach job and a creative color. 150 dollars is ridiculous for the color I have, stop over pricing. It’s not like your a Pearl District salon.
I came in here yesterday for a cut and color and I left very disappointed. My stylist Carli did NOT do what I asked. I gave her compliments on the color and cut, but honestly I knew I was going to have to leave a bad review here on Unilocal.I brought in a picture of the color I wanted on my phone and my hair is like 5x darker than the picture. She could have at least bleached my hair and then had me come back into to get the EXACT color instead of just bullshitting with me by saying it will look almost exactly like that. So now I’m only content with my hair which is how I felt before I even got my hair done. The color is pretty and all but NOT what I asked for. This whole thing cost $ 150 and it seemed like I was only paying for what she wanted to do to my hair, not what I wanted to do. I’ll just stick with D-​Side Studio and never come back here. Thanks Utopia for screwing my mom and I over.

Just went this afternoon to see Mikayla for a very much needed massage. She was WONDERFUL! highly recommended, she was just the bees knees!
The rest of the staff was just as lovely and helpful! The gentleman up front, I didn’t catch his name was warm and knew his stuff & was funny as well :)
I will be coming back fo’ sho!

I am very picky about my hair and I went to another salon and the stylist butchered my hair. I did some checking for a good salon with good reviews and decided to give Utopia a try. I am extremely happy that I did, Lisa is fantastic with my hair and I am so happy to have found this place.
I am always happy with my haircut when I leave. I have a short haircut with curly hair so that can make things difficult but, I always leave here with a great style and something I can easily manage.

If you need any kind of waxing done, go see Mo. She is amazing and keeps you distracted whilst ripping out all of your hair.
The receptionist at Utopia is extremely rude and I’ve actually found myself wanting to confront her. It makes me crazy when I am a paying customer and do not get greeted walking through the door. Other than that, I have no complaints about this place and I love Mo to death!

It trickles down from the owner Lisa to the my personal favorite Joann. Joann has been cutting my hair off and on for 35 years. I guess that would make me older than 29 :) She even cut my kids hair when they were little.
