I just happened to be driving by and I saw this little restaurant and I decided to try it out. Awesome fresh food! I started out with their«gol gappas» — crispy bread puffed up like a little balloon and filled with tiny fried round fritters, and fresh cilantro and a spicy sour/tangy mango/tamarind liquid. Deliciious and refreshing! I then went for the«samosa chat» with 2 fresh samosas on a bed of spicy chickpeas, yogurt, chopped onions, cilantro, tamarind chutney and spicy«chat» spices… Really fresh and delicious. I finished off with their tasty masala chai and 2 warm jalebis. Really nice owners and freshly made food. They have an extensive selection of Indian sweets which I plan to try out next time!

Excellent lunch thali. Simple and Home made taste and felt healthy to eat here. Our children enjoyed the Gol– guppa(pani puri) and chole batura. Our little one lunched on the dodhaa milk sweet! Highly recommend this.

I have often bemoaned the scarcity of Indian sweets in the pdx area, so I can not emphasize how happy I am to have this shop here! The folks working there are delightful, the sweets are delicious, and the savory snacks are perfectly seasoned. The paneer pakora is one of the most delightful taste and texture sensations ever. Perfection. Really, the only things that could improve this shop would be to give the cute little house a fresh & bright paint job, move it over to downtown Vancouver, label all of the lovely items with more detailed descriptions(though the counter folks have been nothing but sweet, I’d buy more if I didn’t have to ask so many questions), and maybe to have just a couple more dairy-free options in the case for my vegan family members. Love, love, love it!

Spectacular yum! The samosas(yes, they have savory food, too) are the best I have ever had and are cooked fresh especially for you. Man, I thought I had eaten some good Indian food before, but all that pales in comparison. The desserts were all new to me, but the owner let me sample just about everything in the case. I loved it all and got about five different love bombs. I was surprised/(alarmed?) to say I ate most of them in the car that same day… and I could pull such a feat off without going into a diabetes coma because they were all delightfully light and not sickly sweet. I already have plans to return and methodically work my way through their entire savory menu. The owners provide the best customer service imaginable. Treat me like a Princess? Yes, please. Has anybody mentioned that they do have a couple of tables and chairs so you can plop and stuff your face while there, all very informally? And that there is easy parking right around back? I must bring friends/dates here! I am so pulling for this little shop’s big success and am henceforth committed to spreading the gospel about Guru Sweets. Mostly because I am selfish and want this food available to me all the time from now on.

YAAAAAAY! Finally tried this place and I have not a single complaint. I’ve never tried Indian sweets before so I did not know what to expect. They were very sweet, heavy, but tasty and inexpensive. However, the real star of the show was their snacks menu. Such an explosion of flavor. The samosas are .75 cents, and full of different flavors. I got the aloo tiki chat plate and omg I can’t wait to come back

Discovered this little gem driving by. My husband and I both had a Samosa plate that was delicious and fresh. Everything is freshly made here. The customer service was excellent. The owner assisted us and was very nice. We finished our visit with a box of homemade Indian sweets that we devoured in the car! We’ll definitely be back!

I had driven by this place on my way to and from work everyday since they opened in an odd location in a corner«house» and wondered what was inside. One day I noticed their sign advertising homemade Samosas. I made a U-Turn… I love a good Samosa! I purchased a dozen and while waiting for them to be freshly made by hand I rounded up a sampling of 10 to 12 of their Indian Sweets. The woman behind the counter looked so pleased to see me I almost felt she recognized me. She was extremely helpful and pleasant and I enjoyed most of the flour, butter and flavor based confections. All are very lightly sweetened and use herbs, fruit and nuts for flavor. Definitely not your usual sickeningly sweet deserts… now if I could just remember the names of each one. The Samosas came out smokin’ hot, fresh and included a deep red sweet and spicy dipping sauce. Each Samosa is a glorious pocket of potatoes, peas and spices wrapped in a firm, yet lightly crunchy crust. Out Of This World Good! I ate four in the car in the parking lot! Sorry work mates. I am going back! …maybe tomorrow!

It was highly recommended by locals and other people. Perhaps I went on an off day but both me and my companion were sick after eating there for breakfast. The service was extremely slow and nothing really special about the food. What a disappointment this place was.

I know Indian food and sweets very well. I lived in NYC for 15 years and loved going to Jackson Heights in Queens and Little India in Manhattan. That’s about me – So Guru Sweets and Snacks is on par or better than anything I had in NYC. The owner is super friendly and wants to make sure this snack and sweet food is available in the community — but most of his customers are non-Indian! That’s wonderful. The Samosas are INCREDIBLYTASTY a very rich dough, generous fillings. They are cooked fresh when you order too. Then they have so many menu items like Chole Bhatoore — which I need to try next time. The stars really are the sweets — called Mithai(Meet-hi). They have the Motichoor ladoo, khoa fudge, so many kinds of fudge(called bar-fee), and gulab jamun, and jel-ay-bee. They also have Ras Malai. You can walk out with a whole bag including sweets and samosa for about $ 10. This is special — you must go and try this food. I could see myself getting a large order of Samosas and taking them to the office lunch. The question is «do they deserve it?» Hmmm…

I’m going to preface this review by saying that I’m starting to get pretty sick of the limited number of good restaurants in Vancouver, let alone the nonexistent culturally diverse food choices. Some may disagree with me here, but if I have to hear one more Da Couverite rave about how«adventurous» they were for trying the honey walnut shrimp at Panda Express, or about how«authentic» their Baja burrito was because a Mexican made it –I’m seriously going to stab my eyeball out with a fork. Thankfully Guru Sweets gives me a tiny bit of hope for Vantucky, as we now have at least one more ethnic food option in the area! I was pretty clueless about what Indian snack food was, but became very intrigued each time I passed by Guru. It’s a fairly small shop offering a good selection of sweets in a display case. Most of the sweets are more like tiny-sized pastries, made with variations of the same ingredients: –Milk/condensed milk –Sugar –Nuts –Bean flour Guru is kind of like an Indian version of Sweet Factory because everything is sold in bulk, except they don’t let you handle the sweets yourself and they don’t actually sell candy. The sweets are priced at around $ 7/pound so I recommend mixing and matching to try a bit of everything. They also serve a limited menu of savory foods, including the most drool-worthy samosas ever. The samosas I tried were still hot from the fryer and the crust was crispy with the most perfectly seasoned curry/potato/chickpea filling. You MUST order this if you ever go to Guru because it costs only $ 1.50 for two decently sized samosas(probably the size of my palms) with a side of a spicy jam dipping sauce! To top off my experience, the service was great, as the owner even offered to let me try everything in the case before buying, and the shop was impeccably clean, which is not always common for small family run businesses.

This looks like a small and cute place. I went in to try and loved their food. Very friendly owners & the best Indian snacks in the Portland/Vancouver area easily. Their samosas, Paneer pakoras, Chole Bhature, Chaat, Aloo Tikki are to die for. Easily better than ever the originals in India itself. The sweets are better than many sweet shops in India. Everything I have tried here is so yum. Keeps me coming all the time. Keep it up guyz. Would have given more than 5 stars if there were more… :-)

Small, unassuming house looking place on the North side of Mill plain. Was not sure what to expect when i walked in, but WOW was I surprised. The owner was super friendly, giving us samples and explaining all of the Indian deserts in the display case. Everything is hand made, vegetarian with no preservatives, made right there. We purchased a selection of deserts because they were all very good. Unfortunately, we had lunch right before we arrived, but I just can’t pass up a somosa and boy am I glad we didn’t. These were the best somosa I have ever had. Spicy, savory and not greasy. Can’t wait to come back and try some of the chatt and other lunch dishes they offer.

This is an awesome, newly opened sweets, snacks and chaat place in Vancouver, WA. They make very tasty samosas, it’s a must try item in their menu. Tried their aloo tikki chaat, papdi chaat, gol gappa, chole batoorae and they were very tasty too. They make hot jalebi everyday and during weekend they make yummy parathas(aloo, mooli and paneer). If you haven’t visited this place, it’s a must try place for people living in Portland/Vancouver area.
