Not a bad stop. Seating is quite limited here, though if they open up the back(as they did for us) then it expands quite a bit. The menu is a bit on the small side, I expect as they will discover those things their customers really crave and they would like to do more of, it will expand and diversify. Pricing is reasonable for what you are getting, but I must say I wasn’t really enthralled with the food. My rating reflects more to my enjoyment of the space, as opposed to the dining experience. The house made maple sausage was just too sweet for my pallet. As opposed to some sort of sweet/savory blend I would expect. The«hash» wasn’t so much a hash as fried potatoes with green peppers and onions tossed in. My fiancée’s French toast was warm, not hot. All that being said, it seems like they are trying to get things to perfection and just having some time management issues. I would be interested to see how they develop as a location, but for my part it will be a bit before I am there again.

Just ran across this place. It’s got a great vibe. Simple, homey atmosphere. Everyone working here seems to be generally enjoying what they’re doing. Food was excellent. I highly recommend the French Toast. I will be back.

Our 1st time here. Staff was friendly. Love the décor with books, comics, and games. We had french toast, bacon and coffee. The bacon was cooked to order(we are picky about it but disagree on crunch.) The coffee was only ok. The French toast was simple and good. MAJORFLAW: they serve cold syrup(shudder). We’ll be back. It would be a great place to meet friends for games and food

I have been coming into Commonwealth regularly for coffee and the occasional sandwich(Yum!) and have been impressed by the homey atmosphere and the friendly attitudes of the owners, including the fact that they provide gluten-free bread as an option for all of their sandwiches. About a month ago, I ordered their Manhattan Clam Chowder, and it was awesome!!! I have heard great things about their other soups, as well. I just saw on Facebook that they are serving a new line of salads, and that will definitely bring me in more often! I am thrilled to have this restaurant in the neighborhood, love the variety of options, and cannot wait for them to open the patio for the summer. Thanks for coming to Vancouver!

Ok. I had to give this a five star. We had tomato soup and small order of biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were flaky with great flavor, the gravy was wonderful. Seriously. I almost like it as much as my own homemade. The tomato soup was thick and full of flavor. And very Italian by seasoning . Is there a Pisano in the kitchen? If I had to guess, I’d say yes. Warm friendly décor with comics, antiques and domino’s. Books to read and wonderful picture windows. The outside folks the air with aroma therapy. You know, the kind of place that smell so great outside. You can’t wait to go in! That good. Prices were fair to be sure. Large bowl of soup. $ 5 and my biscuit order was $ 6 . Soda was a dollar. In a residential area. Parking is easy. I recommend this place fully.

Very happy to have this café in the neighborhood. They have great coffee and tasty sandwiches. They make delicious baked goods, we ordered a Yule log, candy box and cookie box for the holidays and the items were beautiful and delicious! Jim and Reid are also very friendly! The bacon wrapped dates are a hit! I love the curried tuna melt sandwich and also the carrot curry soup was good. They also have gluten free bread available.

This is exactly the kind of place that is landing the ‘Couve smack dab in the middle of the foodie scene. I had the beautiful Curried Tuna, served warm with lightly crisped, rustic French bread, two kinds of melted cheese, and the perfect quantity of fragrant, golden curry. My husband enjoyed one of the breakfast sandwiches(divine) and my daughter had the grilled cheese(«Just the right amount of cheese!» she declared). Atmosphere-wise, Commonwealth is a laid-back, low-key 100% neighborhood establishment, located in a residential area in a rambling old house with many rooms, two fireplaces, and a wide, wood-planked back patio that will be irresistible come summer. There’s an extensive lending library with cookbooks, art books, and children’s books, an antique pinball machine, and a rack of comic books, plus local original art(see the«Disgruntled Barista» series hanging in the hall). In short, we will be back. Probably this afternoon.

We went out for lunch to Commonwealth Café this week. It just opened recently; about a month ago. You’ve got to try their house-made English muffins! They are quite amazing! So airy and fluffy and delicious! Perfectly toasted on the outside, and soft and chewy in the inside. I really enjoyed this place. They used very high quality ingredients, and they made it fresh on the spot. Their orange juice was also very delicious… The Odwalla brand. I love a place that serves real orange juice. Great place to meet for breakfast or lunch! I highly recommend it! Will come back again to try more of their menu. I had the«Fun Guy» Breakfast sandwich. It had sautéed portobello mushrooms, Gruyère cheese, and a garlic-butter spread. The flavor was delicious! Loved the mushrooms! The Mr. had a «Commonwealth» sandwich… It had fresh baby spinach, egg over easy, and some kind of «tomato jam.» I’ve got to admit, he really enjoyed it. We both did :)
