Sequoyah Caverns will close their gates this September. The Caverns are privately owned, and have been in the same family since the mid 1800s. It’s worth a trip north of Fort Payne to see the underground formation of rock castles. It looks like an underground fairy world. Shallow pools of water reflect the roof of the caverns, making the pools look much deeper — a beautiful illusion. The downside was the noisy, ill-behaved kids and even worse behaved parents. We had a difficult time hearing the tour guide over the brats and their brat parents. Parents allowed their kids to run along the narrow trail, tripping and knocking into other tourists. Did I mention the parents were just as bad? I wish there’d been the option of a child-free tour. Regardless of kids, it’s worth seeing Sequoyah Caverns before it’s closed to the public.
