Papa Bear’s Restaurant

This place needs a total overhaul. Avoid and make the trip to Escondido for some decent food.

We tried this place a couple years ago, driving through and enjoyed our meal. .we were driving through today and decided to stop back in. We tried the Italian feast for 20 bucks. There was 1 waitress and 1 cook. Service was slow over 20 min to get our food, also the waitress had her hair hanging down and it didn’t seem very sanitary. Pizza was ok, spaghetti and lasagna were disgusting, can’t even describe the flavor. The garlic toast tasted like old oil or margarine. I will not go back.

The place is ok, small but quick. It has old décor and the tables need to re placed. We just stopped in to check it out. The staff is friendly. Prices are good for what you get. Yes they are clean.

USED to be a great spot. Had I know corner skillet took over this place I would not have come. One waitress and one cook so our group waited over an hour for food. My salad was drowning in watery ranch, my sandwhich had no flavor. Someone’s burger came out with just a plain patty and plain buns, nothing else, flavorless. Mostly everyone’s dishes were cold. The pizza was sad, one of the slices didn’t even have cheese on it. I can keep going but you get the point. Don’t waste your money, the food quality left with the old owners.

Busy Sunday morning and there’s one guy working. Had to hunt down menus ourselves. Took forever to get coffee. Took forever to order. When half of our food finally came, we had to hunt down our silverware ourselves. Had to ask for him to bring the rest of food. Had to ask 2 times for the one refill of coffee we did get. Food was edible, but not worth the fancy price, at all. Lots of flies. We won’t be back again ever.

Pizza is bomb !! Love their breakfast as well as their Caesar salad! The place isn’t all that to look at, but it is more than just how it looks. The pizza is the real deal. Really good sauce, dough, and cheese ! It’s a small town diner feel, with really good food. Fresh iced tea ! The waiter Justin always has the best service ! Love coming here in my small community. Keep it local!

My dad ate here twice while in town, I went once with him. Breakfast was good. No complaints. Wasn’t the best breakfast I’ve ever had but I was satisfied.

Justin was great the best server ever he was very respectful and had great manors he filled our drinks when they were a ¼ down held good conversation and knew exactly what we needed before we had to ask the food was great we had the feast for 2 it’s a lot of food for just $ 20 we wish every server was like him the crew he was working with was awesome as well thanks again Justin you were great and we will be seeing you again.

Worst service ever. Waited 35 mins for a carry out. And food leak through the paper bag. Over flow sauce. Food was gross. Never again.

This is only about the pizza.
This place used to have my favorite pizza after Felipe’s. I guess the new owners don’t know how to make pizza. I got a pizza last night and the crust was paper thin and soggy. Never had that with pizza before except when I was experimenting with my own pizza. They skimp on the cheese, which does not taste like mozzarella.
I haven’t tried anything else here.

Under new ownership. Food was decent but the time to get it was toooo long. 50 mins for spaghetti and sandwiches. And there was just us and another table. The place needs a complete makeover. Step it up new owners.

Can’t comment on anything else, but the pizza is very good.

Place is a little run down, but has great pizza.

My review is based on the food n service. I had the farmers bowl and my hubby had the lumberjack with country fries and we were completely satisfied.

Food was okay. I hade corned beef hash and eggs which at the time I thought was decent. My friend had an omelet. She didn’t enjoy it much.
Service was ok. The place also seemed run down. But the real reason for the 1 star is. my friend and I got sick after eating here. Hopefully it was a fluke thing.
Either way I will not ever be back.

Food was good. Gravy tasted like it was supposed to! Hard to find in San Diego. Service was average. My only complaint would be a couple of other patrons. One was an elderly lady who kept making phone calls with her phone on speaker so you actually had to suffer through both sides of the conversation. The other was trying to explain how retaining walls should be built and telling his friend how you can not do it right and hope that the wall will hold up. for an engineer that was uncomfortable conversation to listen to.
The other reviews are correct that it is a small building that hasn’t been updated in awhile but those places usually have the best food. Overall I was happy with my breakfast.

I really don’t understand what people dislike so much about this restaurant.
I’ve had their delivery a handful of times, and today I are in the restaurant. They have superb food. Great hospitality, and everyone is very nice. The ambiance is fair, but restaurants are tough businesses.
All in all, a great place! Give it a try!
