Villa Vallecito Vineyards – Mi Compania Dulce

I’m very late in writing a review for Villa Vallecito Vineyard’s Mi Compania Dulce guest house, but the fact that I still vividly remember how lovely it was, nearly a year later, might tell you something about the place!
My sweetie treated me to a stay in the guest house last December for my birthday. The house is utterly charming, beautifully decorated, and has a stellar view looking west. The owner, Ghee, was out of town but was friendly on the phone and via email, very helpful and responsive. Every question I had she got right on. The heater was a little noisy during the very quiet nights, which she assured me she would have looked at. That is a tiny quibble, really; I’d prefer to have overlooked it, if the heater wasn’t so close to the bedroom and the nights so utterly silent!
We loved our time gazing at the amazing sunsets over the lake and foothills. We had the place to ourselves, other than the vineyard’s winemaker, who lives just down the hill and was also just wonderful. He took great care of us. We were able to spend several delightful sessions in the hot tub on the edge of the cliff overlooking the lake. I think that was my favorite hot tub I’ve ever been in, not least because it’s in such a secluded spot.
Speaking of the villa’s winemaker, his wines blew our socks off, as did his knowledge and passion for his craft. Be sure to taste everything you can!

I enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing girl weekend at the Casita. This was the perfect spot to relax and catch up with an old friend. If you are looking for a unique experience that cannot be created at a hotel or bed and breakfast this is the spot. Stunning lake and vineyard views in every direction, with access to a beautiful hilltop pool — what more do you need! The hospitality from the owner and local wine also exceeded my expectations. After enjoying such a perfect weekend with my friend I wanted to return and share this special place with my husband. Just booked a return trip and can’t wait to be back!

During our recent south to north trip from Sequoia NP to Lake Tahoe/​Reno, we happened to secure a two night stay at Mi Compania Dulce — surrounded on all sides by the Villa Vallecito Vineyards. The setting is absolutely stunning, with views of the New Melones Lake on one side and vineyard rows on the other sides. The setting is beyond peaceful and is very relaxing. The wine tasting rooms in downtown Murphys are very close and the Amador County wine country is just a one hour drive north. We were treated to the second-​ever private wine tasting at the winery below and the wines are exceptional — at this time a Viognier and a Barbara, due for release soon. The owner was available by phone and offered much help with things to do in the area. The next time we are in the area, we will surely book a stay here if at all possible, and will highly recommend it to our friends in Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area.
