Friendly little coffee shop in downtown Urbanna. I don’t drink coffee, but like the hot chocolate. They have good food throughout the day and the harvest cookies and chocolate chip cookies are really good. Management has changed over the past few years, but steady friendly staff working. Closed Wednesdays!

Cute coffee shop in downtown Urbanna. They had choices of a decaf, dark roast(which was a medium roast they told me), and a flavored almond/hazelnut combo roast. I opted for the dark roast and it was fairly good actually. I was not aware that they had a menu of food when I first ordered because on the walls they only had drink menu’s(fru-fru coffee drinks), so I chose a spinach, red pepper, and ham quiche that was pre-made next to the cash register. Only after I sat down at my table did I see their brochure at the tables that has all of their breakfast/lunch food options. Either way, the quiche was okay but it was not anything extraordinary. After the quiche I decided on ordering two slices of french toast. The french toast was the same as the quiche, it was okay but nothing special that I would have to order again. My final total was around $ 10 for the coffee, quiche, and french toast so pretty inexpensive. The coffee may be worth coming here once or twice, but the food is not so much.

I visited Cross Street Coffee last Sunday and was extremely disappointed. While this little café was full of diners, I was the only one in front of the counter. I stood there for at least five minutes watching no less than three employees behind the counter working away and acting as though they were completely oblivious to my presence. Not one of the three bothered to greet me, much less look at me. I was shocked that in such a small town I would experience such a lack of customer service. Eventually, I walked out without ordering anything after determining that my business was of absolutely no concern to any of the three employees behind the counter. I am unsure as to how the owner plans to keep this shop open if the employees see customer service as optional. Next time I am in Urbanna, I will do without coffee rather than subject myself to the experience offered at Cross Street.

We walked up from our boat for a very pleasant lunch. The mushroom brie soup and quiche were both delicious. The chicken salad wrap was good but just a bit heavy on the dressing. Loved the citrus fruit salad. The two women working behind the counter were quite friendly.

All of those wealthy big city touristy types who flock to the Northern Neck/Middle Peninsula area during the summer come to a rude awakening in the morning. There are VERY few places to get a decent cup of coffee in the area. In Urbanna, which seems to cater to this crowd more than other locations, it’s no surprise that someone has opened up a coffee house to cater to this crowd. I’ve stopped at Cross St. Coffee a few times over my past 2 visits to Urbanna. The coffee is generally good. I did find my Americano a bit weak on my last trip. I believe this was either because their large is HUGE, and it was too watered down, or their espresso shots aren’t quite as strong as I would like. I’ve had great lattes there in the past, although one time the barista apologized for not getting the foam right(although it was fine to me). They also have a good food selection, including breakfast pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and paninis and wraps for lunch. But outside of a scone(which was OK) I haven’t eaten here. So, having only really had their coffee, it’s hard for me to give them more than 3-stars. But if you are in Urbanna and in need of a good latte or espresso, this is the place to go.
