Being someone who didn’t grow up in the 909 or even visit the 909 until I started working in Upland, I wasn’t familiar with Juan Pollo which — like Baker’s — is somewhat of a small local chain with borderline cult status. My visit at the Upland location last night prompted me to write my first review in a while and it’s going to be 4.5 stars, which I happily rounded up to five. I had to place a large food order for 10 people so instead of pizza I decided to give this place a shot since it’s right down the street from work and I know coworkers have ordered from here before. I called around noon for an order to be picked up at 5:30. The young man who took my order was very good — knowledgeable about the options and prices and patient while I thought everything out. I ended up ordering a Jumbo Pak(three whole chickens, extra large sides of potato salad, rice and beans, tortillas and salsa), two orders of soft tacos(three per order for a total of six), three orders of hard tacos(two per order for a total of six) and a Juan’s Big Bowl for me since I don’t really like bone-in meat and wanted to leave the tacos for my friends I was purchasing the food for. I was told it would cost $ 68.18 and the order was placed. I arrived at 5:30 on the dot to pick up and the only reason I am deducting half a star here is because I didn’t actually leave until 5:40 or 5:45 since they had seemingly just started putting my order together when I arrived. No biggie because the young lady at the register was very nice and once I got the food, I really enjoyed my bowl — it was easily larger AND better than the El Pollo Loco equivalent, and perhaps even cheaper. My friends seemed to enjoy the chicken, though I did not try it. The other stuff I tried was also very good. I liked the beans and rice a lot — very flavorful — and while I know they’re somewhat famous for their potato salad, I couldn’t get myself to try it because I absolutely hate olives :/On a random note, I thought their salsa was amazing! It had carrots in it, which was a unique touch and pleasant surprise in terms of how good it was. Overall, I can’t recommend Juan Pollo enough! Whether you are picking up something just for yourself or a large order for family or friends, you should definitely give it a shot!!!

I usually get the half chicken dinner meal and it is usually a hit or miss on flavor. I used to eat at the San Bernardino location which is usually always better. The upland location interior is a dump, needs a lot of cleaning. If you can look past the poor interior condition, including the cooking areas, the chicken is, as I say hit or miss on flavor. El Pollo is more consistent on flavor and taste than here.

Loved the chicken!!! Always have, the main reason we started coming here was the rice, but… for whatever reason it is NOT the same! It is dry and almost tasteless… where did the wonderful chicken flavored, moist rice go? Ugh!!!

Their chicken is great here! I have now come to prefer this location over the others. The place is usually kept up, and the customer service can be a hit or miss, but as long as the food is great; I can look past it.

This is the authentic Juan Pollo that I grew up on. Reasonable prices with delicious, juicy chicken and great sides! Not sure why people are people hating. Place is bomb!

HOLYMOLY… El Pollo & Zaky’s chicken what??? Dang it. I want to kick myself for not coming here sooner! I read the reviews and I almost didn’t come because of the 3 stars but my husband convinced me otherwise. Yeah, yeah. who cares about service especially if you’re just picking up food to go. Like someone said, it’s about the food people!!! NO question, the chicken is moist & flavorful(kinda salty but who cares), the rice is AMAZING, and I enjoyed their potato salad and salsa. I actually got a $ 1 off coupon in the mail and used it towards my mini pack which came out to $ 15 or so. This can easily feed 2 fat people or 3 normal weight people– just perspective.

It’s a nice spot and they have reasonable prices. The chicken is very good if you like pollo loco, this might be just a notch better then Pollo Loco. If you going to stay in to eat they have a water cooler so it stays warm inside but they have plenty of room for seating. If you want another refill that’s $ 0.50 ouch…

Been eating Juan Pollo every now and then for well over a decade. They have THEBEST citrus marinade on their rotisserie chicken. It’s the only place where I eat the skin off the chicken, it’s that good! We always get the Mini Pak which is one whole rotisserie chicken, rice, beans, around 6 tortillas(we get flour and make burritos from it), potato salad and salsa. We’re not big salsa eaters, so we skip that and we’re picky about potato salad so we always ask for extra beans instead of the potato salad. The Mini Pak is easily enough food for 2 – 3 adults or 2 adults and a young child or two to have a good meal. And there just is no better place to get chicken than Juan Pollo. That marinade is a thing of splendor. It smells great, it tastes great and it keeps the whole chicken nice and juicy. The rice has bits of chicken and seasonings in it, so it isn’t just plain white rice nor white rice with a bit of red sauce drizzled on it. It’s about like the Mexican equivalent of fried rice. And their beans are just beans in thickish juice. Put them all together inside a warm flour tortilla and you’ve got yourself one helluva good dinner.

The chicken is practically jerky. The rice is usually crunchy from being under cooked. When your business has pollo in the name you better know how to make a juicy chicken. Unfortunately they ruin it every time.

Im very understanding of business and the wait, especially since I work for a restaurant. I came in and I was waiting for a lil while. A man comes in and decides to cut im front of me.(Rude idiot) But the girl at the counter saw me becasue I made eye contact with her and decided to take his order instead of mine. I was so mad that I was not even acknowledged that I left. *If you see a person waiting in line and some rude person cuts in front of that person and you still comtinue to ignore the fact that she has been waiting, shame on you* Poor customer service!!!

Called in an order for pickup at a certain time, order was not ready and they also ran out of beans. When asked for a discount on our party pack they tried to charge us more. The man behind the counter was very rude and we ended up waiting a half hour longer for out order and we were late for our engagement. Would not recommend Juan Pollo to anyone.

Sad, real sad. 1st my order took about 15 mins longer then it usually is, which I have been here many times before. 2nd i purchased a 2 liter pepsi that was flat most likely because it was 6 mths expired, when I asked for a replacement got the same shit. 6mths expired, then upon pulling my items from the bag(which we were eating in so I had to go back twice to the counter to get plates and cups for my flat soda, don’t remember being asked if order was to go.) I realized I was missing my flour tortillas, again had to get up. Seriously, I guess they were trying to build up my appetite, but it was a lost cause since I was disappointed it went away with my disgust. Never coming back.

The service isn’t always the greatest, but I couldn’t care less. The food is always good and reliable. Their hidden gem is the chicken burrito. It is HUGE and only $ 5. Their rice is to die for and is the main reason I come back.

What a dump ! Crap service each time I go. Keep the tattoo thug off the counter and in the kitchen! Look at your trashy front counter … Albert Okura would be pissed if he saw your store!

Restaurant is run-down. The front desk has so many disclaimers, some are hand written, others printed, they just don’t look professional. «No bills over $ 20» «no shirt, no Shoes, no service», «You are on Camera», «.50 cents drink refills for dine in customers only», & coupon disclaimers for family meals… They also have polo shirts for sale, that was weird. With all the signs stoping you at the front door, you don’t know what to look at. My food was served on a old moldy grey food tray, yuck! I should have left after that, but I didn’t. This restaurant needs a major overhaul. If your going to have their food, your best bet is «TOGO!» And the chicken is just average, nothing out of this world. & don’t expect customer service –hint– the disclaimers.

I have been coming to this Juan Pollo for more than 10 years now. Their prices are fantastic for the amount of food you receive. Everything tastes great(except for their salsa — I think the salsa is HORRIBLE here). I have never experienced any kind of rude or bad service but have watched them help customers with the line going out the door. I’m a fan and will continue to frequent this location.

Just ask Dana? Have you gone to eat chicken lately? Well I did and there is no Cluck for your buck here, check out the Picts the chicken s are little baby chickens. I don’t think the chickens had feathers yet when they killed them, no value here for your money it’s insulting to pay higher prices and get less chicken, I don’t recommend this place to anyone also the place isn’t that clean and looks old they need to remodel it if you eat here and you see the bird isn’t actually a bird it’s a chiclet call corporate office to complain I did, there are so many places you can go to eat chicken where you actually get some chicken !

The flavor of the chicken can’t be beat, especially for the price. I always compliment the chicken with the rice and the potato salad. I love how they add pieces of chicken to the rice. The beans I’m not too fond of because it’s whole. It’s better to take out rather than dine in because the couple times I’ve come, the dining area was messy. I’ll choose this chicken over el pollo loco any day!

Well I know most people who eat there that I know love it. That being said I don’t know that many people that eat there. I have gone a few times with friends who like it but never on my own volition. So I give this 2 stars because it is a good value. Now on to the things I didn’t like: it’s drab and dull and dingy inside. The employees aren’t nice or mean they are just there like statues, they don’t look very happy. At two different locations I had a burrito and I bit into giant chunks of bone. The rice also had something weird in it. In closing I gave them a few chances and still not impressed and I will NEVER go back
