The existing fenced area near Central Meadow is temporary. The dog park will be closed in May 2015 when the United States Golf Association takes over the site for the U.S. Open. According to UP Councilwoman Klososki, dog owners have always known the park would close, and they support the golf tournament. However, we fear that the dog park will not reopen after the U.S. Open ends next summer. Previously, we believed the dog park would reopen after the tournament and stay open until a permanent location was identified and built. Read more here:

This«park» is no more than a metal fenced in area of dirt. It is a place for your dog to run around in a contained area at least but it’s definitely not as well equipped as some other dog parks. There are no toys or obstacles other than what others have left behind and there really isn’t a lot of space for the dogs to run. As big as Chambers Bay is, it’s too be expected that the dog park would almost be as big as Steilacoom off-leash park. Alas, it is not. At least there are doggie doo bags present. But you have to go all the way down to the bathrooms to use the doggie fountains. Not well planned if I do say so myself. Some people are kind enough to refill the water bottles that are left outside the fence that are labelled for people to refill and bring back to the dog park. It’s inconvenient though to use the water and then walk all the way to the bathroom to then walk all the way back to the dog park to put a filled up bottle back on the ground. As my dog is a smaller dog, under 10lbs, there is no separation between small and large dogs which may be problematic if your dog has little dog syndrome and doesn’t like a huge Retriever or German Shepard in her face. Plus, since my dog is a queen, she basically shuts all the other dog’s sex-game down while fending off the paparazzi. She makes the other dogs pick out her fruit. Seriously though, not one of my favorite parks. The rest of Chambers Bay is awesome though.
