Good American-style Mexican food. A great place to take the family. Large portions, so I usually get leftovers to take home and that makes it excellent value. The chimichangas are great. And they have horchata on the drinks menu.

My boyfriend, the Tex-Mex enthusiast, calls this both his favorite Mexican restaurant ANYWHERE and his favorite overall restaurant in St. Louis. His go-to is the Vippy Special, dinner size, with steak. I had the burrito California with chicken. If I returned, I would get the cheese sauce on the side, and overall the meal was really tasty. Too much to eat in one sitting, unless you want to take a nap! I finished my leftovers for dinner. The chips and salsa are also great! Other restaurants can’t compare, according to my resident Tex-Mex enthusiast.

Best Mexican food in St. Louis. Margaritas could be better, but service is pretty much always great. Friendly staff, yummy food; good enough for me.

A waiter accidentally broke my phone when he tipped a glass of water. The manager on duty refused to help me, told me I had to wait an hour and a half for another manager to arrive. They still charged us for our meals and would only give me his card instead of a letter stating they would pay for a new phone. He didn’t apologize once.

This restaurant, though big and has great service, can get really crowded. Their food comes usually quite fast, and their portions are pretty big, so keep that in mind when ordering. I like their pick two combo option and chicken soup

We had dinner this evening… Chiles Rellenos… they were excellent. Can’t wait to return. Waiter — Jose was extremely good & very attentive. PS The beers were good, too. Affordable prices

This is yummy, cheap Mexican that’s fairly Americanized. The service is quick and good, there are free chips & salsa and they are pretty tasty, and the margarita pitchers are $ 14 and they are strong! The food isn’t super flavorful. The mole was too sweet, the salad was pretty wet(gross, I know), and the enchiladas verde lacked any real flavor plus the cheese was in huge chunks. All in all, cheap yummy Mexican, but nothing too flavorful or spectacular.

Stopped by here after a loooong day and a looooot of walking around the St. Louis Zoo with the family. Everyone was freezing, exhausted, and starving. After finding this place on Unilocal in the parking lot, we zipped on over and were seated all within 10 minutes of making the decision. This is what I normally refer to as «Mazatlan Style» Mexican food. It’s good, beans are cooked with lard, but it’s got that same style that most restaurants serve. So it’s not the authentic style, with tacos being just corn tortillas, meat, diced onions and cilantro(also referred to as, «taco truck style»). BUT, I don’t ever dog a place for that, as it makes up around 80% of the mexican restaurants in America. And for that style, Mi Ranchito is damn good. The portions are huge, which normally means the quality isn’t that good. Not here, my friends, not here. You want a chimichanga? You’re getting two. I ordered a plate that I forget the name of, but it was basically a steak, two chicken breasts, rice, beans, the usual fixins, and some flour tortillas. The steak and chicken were BOTH fantastic. The chicken wasn’t dried out, and had a fantastic season to it. I almost preferred it to the steak, which if you knew me, is darn near blasphemous. The pricing was reasonable, our family of 5 walked away with a $ 70 something bill after tip. Overall, a very solid joint.

Mi Ranchito is a great no frills, quality Mexican food spot in St. Louis. They bring you chips and salsa to start, both of which are tasty and the salsa has a nice kick to it. What I like best though is how they serve the salsa. The salsa comes in a bottle that you can pour out into the individual salsa dishes that they give everyone at the table. Having my own dish for salsa means I can double dip those tasty chips away without my husband rolling his eyes at me. My favorite item that I’ve tried so far off the menu is the fajita quesadilla but everything I’ve had has been good. The menu is huge and I have a feeling we’ll be back to make our way through trying a variety of items off it. Plus who doesn’t love the ability to order something called a monster Margarita. No wonder this was my brother’s favorite Mexican restaurant as a college student in St. Louis.

This is a nice hidden gem of a Mexican restaurant. We walked here from my house and though its not in the most beautiful part of U-city, it is really nice inside. I want to say the walls are hand painted. Leather-bound menus, nice décor We were promptly seated, it was lunch-time on a Sunday so it was a little busy and a few big tables. Service was quick. They came out with chips n salsa ASAP and our server was attentive, despite getting double sat with two large tables. Refiled our water regularly, wasn’t overly-engaging which I think is essential when you are trying to serve that many tables quickly. I saw our server playing with a little girl in a high-chair and that was cute. The tortilla chips were warm and I enjoyed the salsa. They offer two types of hot sauce at the table. I don’t think they have daily specials(tequila tues, taco tues, etc), at least I didn’t see any. They had a lot of premium margarita options, house-lime margs, and frozen flavored margs(peach, piña colada, forgot the 3rd flavor). $ 3 tequila shots!!! I ordered the huevos rancheros(eggs) and partner ordered pollo de arroz(chicken in rice with chz sauce) and he added fajita peppers/onions. So good. We didn’t want to bring any leftovers since we walked there but finishing our plates wasn’t hard lol. They offer all of the regular Mexican dessert options like fried ice cream and flan for $ 3-$ 4 but we did not have room in our stomachs to try them though.

Oh my, Mi Ranchito. I was away from STL for about five years or so but always made it a point to make a pit stop here when I was back in town. Now that I’m back for real, I could not be happier to frequent this place again. Now I’m not here to declare this place«The Best Mexican Food in STL» because it probably isn’t and that’s just a fact. BUT this place does serve up some dang good Mexican food! It can get very, very crowded on the weekends and the servers can be a little hit or miss due to age. The last time I was in we had a very young waiter who kinda dropped the ball a few times but no place is perfect. Even when things are busy or your waiter isn’t up to snuff they are always smiling and very nice. In my opinion there is nothing bad on the menu and I wish they sold their salsa in bottles because it’s so good. I will say that if you’re looking for a kinda comfort food, order the Arroz con Pollo – it’s out of this world.

Very loud. Kids running around everywhere. Booth seats aren’t properly bolted to the floor so everything just moves around when other people sit behind your seat. Tables, seats, and floor feel sticky like they clean with a dirty rag. I ordered mole enchiladas and the server brought out red instead and thought I wouldn’t notice. When I let him know of the mistake, he said I read the menu wrong and ordered something else. When I insisted he read the menu description, he then admitted he knew what he was serving me was wrong. Never going back.

Just fyi, on Friday nights around 7pm there is a 30 – 45 minute wait. Parking lot was beyond packed with people just making up parking spots in the middle of the driveways. There is very limited waiting room, so many customers were waiting very close to tables eating. There is a small bar at the back of the restaurant, but it was also crowded. Once we were seated, there was no longer a wait– so plan your arrival accordingly. My menu was covered in salsa from the person that had used it before me(but since they were so busy, I’m sure cleaning can be forgotten). Our table ordered a pitcher of Cadillac margaritas– much better deal than purchasing 3 small margaritas, since our table got at least 6 small glasses out of the pitcher. The chips and salsa were served by a lady– she was on top or her game on the chips/salsa refills at all the tables. Our table ordered queso as soon as we were seated, but it was not delivered for another 10 minutes(not sure if he forgot or if the kitchen was behind). One of the people at my table ordered a fajita, and another ordered a huge burrito. Both were served steaming hot. My order of rice and beans was also steaming hot, but appeared to be dried out from sitting under the heat lamp too long. The fajitas were served without the tortillas, and my order of one mushroom quesadilla was not served at all. The missing tortilla and the missing quesadilla were served 5 minutes later(again, not sure if he forgot or if the kitchen was behind). Do NOT order the mushroom quesadilla. Not sure if it was just mine, or if this is how they are always served. The quesadilla was missing queso and it was sitting a pool of liquid(not sure if water from the fresh mushrooms or grease from the skillet). Almost inedible due to the grease. The mushrooms were still crunchy and not seasoned. I could have just gone on an off night, but I will not seek this place out again since there are so many other Mexican restaurants in town that are consistently better. Our server was friendly, the chips/salsa waitress was friendly, but the food and service times was unacceptable.

My friend and I decided to give Mi Ranchito another chance, so we went back. This time was better but there were still some problems. He always orders tacos because he loves tacos. I ordered empanadas because I love empanadas; however, after we placed our order, the server came back to our table and said they didn’t have them; they were out. I ordered enchiladas instead. Before our order came, we were given the usual chips and salsa, and my friend asked for queso sauce. They all tasted good, and we liked it. After we finished, the check was brought to us and my friend noticed that the empanadas were on the check even though I didn’t get them. Our server apologized profusely for the mistake, and the cost of the empanadas was taken off and I didn’t pay for them. All the food tasted good, but I was a little miffed about the empanadas.

Hidden in a strip plaza with nothing else people care about and across from Vernon’s, this is a great mexican place a little off the beaten path from the Loop. I came for lunch and they have incredible/inexpensive lunch specials. Service was wonderful, speedy, and free chips/salsa. The salsa was delicious too. Pros: 1) Large space for large groups 2) Great chips and salsa 3) Pollo Yucatán(marinated chicken with grilled veggies and tortillas) 4) Enchiladas 5) Service Cons: 1) Guac was just okay I’m def. coming back for the Mole on the menu, carnitas, and pitchers of margaritas that I’ve heard about. This is the deal, this place isn’t fancy, family owned, authentic to its roots, and no fuss/mess/craft beer type of place. This is NO Mission Taco, but it’s not suppose to be. Come here just for some good Mexican at inexpensive prices.

I live within walking distance of three Mexican restaurants and I drove to U-City from South Hampton to give Mi Ranchito a try. Why, you ask? Because 25 of my Unilocal friends have given them 4 or 5 Stars and I thought it was time for me to give them a try. It is well worth the drive. Mi Ranchito is tucked away in a strip center across the street from Vernon’s BBQ, an easy landmark to help you find this little unknown Mexican restaurant. It is extremely clean, well lit and decorated with murals and bright colors. The staff is exorbitantly friendly. Our server was remarkably helpful, assisting us to make our selection from their huge menu. He listened to our likes and favorites and guided us to entrees that satisfied our Mexican taste buds. As stated by other reviewers, the chips are fresh and warm. The salsa is just average, but good enough to dip the free chips in. We also enjoyed a side dish of Guacamole, which was creamy with chunky pieces of avocado. Presentation of the Guacamole was laking, they served it in a small dish that was almost the exact color as the Guac. A contrasting color would have been so much better. After all, presentation is everything. As my entrée, I choose the El Plato Grande. It was kind of like a make your own soft taco kit. I was given grilled steak and chicken breast with tortillas and all the ingredients I’d want on my taco; lettuce, tomatoes, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream. If that wasn’t enough, it came with sides of refried beans and rice. The steak and chicken was tender and seasoned well. I’d definitely order it again, it was fun assembling my own soft tacos. Walking to my local Mexican restaurants may be good exercise, but I’ll be tempted to drive to Mi Ranchito next time I have a craving for inexpensive Mexican.

Mi Ranchito is a great Mexican restaurant just north of the Loop and is across the street from Vernon’s BBQ. I have been here twice and have received wonderful service. Its fast, friendly, and the food is wonderful. I have eaten the chili relennos and the burrito California and loved both of them. Free chips and salsa is provided. The inside of the restaurant is really quite large. This is now one of my go to Mexican restaurants in the area I live. I found it on Unilocal and love it.
