[Thursday 6⁄28 lineup] –Grillaz Gone Wild –MoGo BBQ –Pizza Pimps –Tacos de los Altos –That’s Sweet! –Truckin’ Sweet –Yumsilog –Bigg Shrimp’n –Forbitten City Thursday night trek over to the UC Walmart lot yielded 9 food trucks, 6 from which I sampled. Lines were not too long — on average it took 5 – 10 minutes per truck to order & have my food in my greedy hands. Grubbing & shameless parking lot loitering ftw! [THEGOOD] + MoGo BBQ’s spicy pork & kimchi quesadillas. Don’t skip out on the kimchee. + Pizza Pimp’s pizza crust. Toppings were so-so, but the crust was phenomenal. How the heck do they get the crust so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside? + Tacos de los Altos — you gotta get all the uncommon meats. Cabeza & tripas all the way. Crispily melt-in-mouth. + Truckin Sweet’s Bada Bing Float — genius. Cherry ice cream in pepsi. [JUSTOKAY] +/-Grillaz Gone Wild’s BBQ bacon cheesesteak. Heavy on the bacon! Huge toasted hoagie, bell peppers, bbq sauce & seasoned beef. Flavorful, but pretty heavy on the sodium. +/-Truckin’ Sweet’s Strawberry Kiss Float. Really super sweet, almost cloying. Strawberry sorbet in sprite. If it had been more tart it would have been awesome. +/-That’s Sweet’s red velvet whoopie pie. Waaayyy tooooo sweeeeeet. Soooo much cream!

Definitely have to go on Tuesday nights at Logan High. It helps support the schools! The trucks vary each week, but the lobster roll at the sushi one was AMAZING! Cupcakes at the sweet truck are awesome, and I normally don’t eat cupcakes.

Now that I work in Hayward I was missing the fun food trucks for lunch. So I was delighted to learn about the Union City Street Eats on Thursday nights in the Wal-Mart parking lot of nearby UC. I convinced one of my co-workers to pay a quick visit. It was really windy and cold on my first visit but I think this will be a great haunt in the summer. Great mix of about nine trucks show up including a few of my favorites: MoGo(tofu taco $ 2 each), Yumsilog(adobosilog $ 7) and That’s Sweet(salted caramel chocolate cupcake infused with fudge, $ 3 extra plus for having more cake than frosting). They have tables set up plus a DJ spinning some tunes. I will be back with more of my co-workers for sure.

UC street eats in back … and at James Logan this time! Which i think is good idea bc the parking is easier and we don’t have to compete with walmart shoppers!(not sure whats going to happen when there is a school event on a tuesday night though) Can’t wait to nom nom nom again!

Was super excited when UC Eats rolled in so I can finally try a variety of food trucks without having to go to Off The Grid and with a DJ to boot. Went about 5 – 6 times during the season and each week had some of the same trucks like mogo, either yumsilog or wow silog, that’s sweet, grill stars, and house of siam. They also had some rotating ones like curry up now, sanguchon(peruvian), tikka bytes, and even a shrimp truck. For the most part, over the weeks we have tried at least ½ of the offerings which was great. Hope they bring it back next year now that they’ve got the hang of it.

Last night was the last event for the season. So glad I was able to catch it!

There were about 10 trucks when I went. Not sure if it’s because the Great Mall event got cancelled. Pretty good variety nonetheless. I only remember Mogo’s, Rice Rockit, Yum Silog and Curry Up Now. All of which I’ve eaten at before, except Yum Silog. I’m gonna have to try out the Yum Silog truck one day. The name sounds gross but I saw some grandmas and aunties cooking back there so I’m sure the food is legit. I really only came here because the Milpitas event got cancelled and I really wanted Rice Rocket. Location is great for East Bayers but traffic coming from the South Bay was crazy. Maybe I’m spoiled with the SF trucks and truck events that are walking distance from my work. Maybe I just prefer the SF truck offerings. Likely won’t come here again unless I happen to be chillin in the East Bay.

Union City street eats is in walmart’s annex parking lot, not the city strreets. this food truck mafia event is the most happening that i’ve come across. a dj was playing music, lots of tables to sit down and eat at. lots of bicycles at this event. a brigade of them(oldsters and youngsters) was leaving before the sun went down. food trucks: thursday. 4:30−9(9⁄29) –house of siam –treatbot –that’s sweet –el malecon –wow truck –yum silog –5 ten burger: my fav burger –grillstars: rotating menu of american classics –kalbi bbq –mogo bbq foodnotes: –lines not so long. they ebbed and flowed. one could wait for openings and jump in to order when lines are short. –nice mix of food trucks here:(american) hamburger. mexican, filipino, thai, korean. mex fusion. –parking available though it looks like there isn’t.

This is pretty cool. I have attended twice. I wish there were more trucks and food variety. Overall, I think it is a great event and I hope it continues. I like how people of the area are able to come together and conjugate over local foods. I have tried: — Mogo bbq — Cupcake truck - I don’t remember the names of the trucks I have eaten at. However, I will post individual reviews for them.

I convinced a couple of friends to roll through here with me last night & honestly, I regret doing so… The first truck we went to was Big Shrimp’n, not sure if that’s the correct spelling. The three stars I’m giving Union City Street Eats is specifically for this truck. We ordered the shrimp and fries with that sauce on it, I can’t remember the name of it. I think it was around 7 $. I definitely think this was worth that, it was very tasty. & the staff is very quick and friendly. The next truck we went to was Grill Stars. If I could, I would give them half a star. We ordered the bbq brisket sandwich, which came with potato chips. The half a star is for those very potato chips. So for starters, the girl who was taking orders dropped our ticket on the ground. After waiting & waiting we finally went up and asked her what’s up. The order was never put in. So they give us the plate. The meat was just fat. I took a bite, tried to chew it and ended up spitting it out. It was all fat. The meat was not meat, but fat… meat fat. And it was cold on top of that! The«coleslaw» or whatever it was, tasted like they added sugar and water to some bagged up cabbage at the store. So my two friends ended up eating some of it, actually swallowing it…& wouldn’t you know, they’ve got food poisoning today. We spent 9 $ on this sandwich that was essentially not edible. DON’T EATHERE. Finally, we headed to the Mogo truck. We ordered the spicy pork quesadilla & chicken burrito, 7 $ each. I can’t even decide how many stars I would give this place because it’s THAT so so. The spicy pork was sweet not spicy & was also very fatty. As you can tell by now, I cannot get down with fatty meat, I just can’t. The cheese was kind of weird, also & it was overall greasy with little flavor. It needed something more. I didn’t like the burrito either, but it wasn’t too bad. I just don’t like how their meat is sweet! I’m definitely more of a savory person. All in all, we wasted tons of food(with the exception of the shrimp and fries) and my two friends got food poisoning. I don’t want to sound like a hater at all, I really wanted to love this. I just won’t be returning to Union City Street Eats. PS– They do play good music here!

I was also disappointed about this, I was hoping it to be much better since it was finally in my very home city. But it wasn’t as great, I thought the whole food truck thing became overhyped, especially now in the Union City area. I’ve definitely had a better experience with the other food truck events. One of my favorite ones is definitely the Eat Real fest! Went to it last year, and definitely can’t wait for this year’s Eat Real fest. The Eat Real fest happens every year, and has alot more variety.

YAYY for FOODTRUCK Mafia!!! Looks like Street Eats finally came to Union City, which is amazing. When I go to UC street eats, I usually get MoGo(my absolute favorite) or Grill Starz. I can’t really judge the other places because I’ve never tried it. But like I said its a great idea, music playing and theres places to eat on the grass. UC street eats has really good vibes. quick tip; if your a mogo junkie like me and my boyfriend they come to union city by sports authority almost every saturday 7 to 11(line is WAY smaller)

I really liked this concept. it should continue and is a lot of fun. I like the fair like atmosphere and I am big on Korean Style Burritos! Having Mogo and Kalbi Korean Taco & Burrito trucks next to each other was a great way to compare them. Niether is better, they are both good and a little different! I salute the Gourmet food truck movement. I hope someday the do it with Sushi Trucks!

Finally, something more worthwhile than Walmart in the Walmart parking lot. And as I’ve said before Union Landing is not Union Square. Don’t come expecting to be wowed by a rainbow assortment of food trucks that would rival Off the Grid. UC, is, in point of fact technically off the grid. We make do with chain stores and chain restaurants but we are a proud and diverse community that enjoys our Saturday morrning Farmer’s Market, our resident barista Paddy and Union Landing, such as it is. Stop sipping on the haterade and take it for what it is: a few well meaning folks trying to make you some homemade flavorful food that won’t break the bank and give you options other than TGIF and Applebee’s. My picks are MoGo, Kalbi BBQ and GrillStars for moist, spicy and well-cooked meats. Check out this website for the latest on UC events and a listing of vendors making an appearahce at UC Street Eats. And if that isn’t enough, impromptu entertainment, yo! Oh, and asking vendors if they’re trying to intentionally kill you by serving undercooked pork will probably earn you less than a smile and well, more undercooked pork.

Wow can this really be happening? Thursday nights practically right in my back yard. OK a 10 minute walk I get food trucks! Being a resident of Union City, this is one of the best things to happen here. I have attended this event a couple of times already. From 4:30pm — 9:30pm till the end of summer, this event will go on. The food truck, Grill Stars, actually hosts this event with other rotating food trucks. So every Thursday will be different trucks ranging from American, Asian, Mexican, etc. Also can’t forget the dessert trucks after your main course meals. There is a DJ that plays a variety of music at this event. Also there vendor tables of business around the city you can check out and support. As for the dining area, there are tables, chairs, and grass you can sit on. If you don’t have either/or, your actually in a Wal-Mart parking lot and pick some up over there if you like. Thank you to the Union City Chamber of Commerce for making this happen. To the food trucks for providing great tasting food.

While I think this is an awesome idea and hope to see it succeed, I went the second week this event occurred and was really disappointed. There were only a handful of food trucks there, and it seemed to be mainly Asian foods. There was a grilling truck, but the food wasn’t great. There was a cupcake truck from Pleasanton serving dry and bland cupcakes(VERYDISAPPOINTING), and a frozen dessert truck with unlimited toppings(but, they only have one size and it is way too big). We tasted a few items from one of the Asian food trucks — the one that had bacon wrapped hot dogs and everything was awful — and the bacon was raw!!! I had to take it back and show them — and one of the workers in the truck just stared at me like I was crazy… I said, «that’s pork, it needs to be cooked and it’s raw!!! — are you trying to kill people???» So, they gave me my money back. Thank goodness one of my kids didn’t eat it before I realized that. Great concept, could be lots of fun with the community out and the DJ playing, but please bring in more variety and better food quality!!! I spent around $ 60 and we left hungry.

Union City finally has something AWESOME! Until very recently, food carts were soley a San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose treat. This event is modeled after Off the Grid in SF which currently has more than 40 trucks on a Friday night. I would travel far to events like this and prayed to the food gods that something cool would come to Union City. It was highly unlikely since all we really have here is chain restaurants and a majority of peeps in the UC are conditioned towards that generic food because many don’t venture out and try new stuff. But my prayers were answered! Union City Street Eats is every Thursday from 4:30pm-9pm. I visited during their 2nd week. They only had about 8 food trucks but there was a DJ, tables, and lots of people having fun! I can imagine there will be more food trucks in the near future to add to the mix as this event seems like it will just be growing from here. My only complaints are 1) I wish it was every day. :) 2) Trash removal should be better arranged. Garbage cans were overflowing at 7pm and that made my heart sad– keep the Une clean! 3) More selection– a majority of them were asian food trucks, which I LOVE, but wish there were others as well. There are currently 2 korean taco trucks and 2 filipino fusion trucks which I think is a bit overkill. Union City NEEDS something like this– come out and support and keep it going!!! It is a lot of fun and I will definitely be back again. :)
