Alright, they’ve closed. The new restaurant in the location is called Tribu.

We’ve been eating at Roses since it opened at Union Landing many years ago. In fact, we frequented Rose Garden before they branched out to Roses. It had been awhile since I had dined in until last Saturday when I was there for a birthday party. I forgot just how good their food is! It was a 10-course meal and everything was delicious, not greasy, and a notch above your average Chinese restaurant. The standouts for me are: * Honey Walnut Prawns — and not«shrimpy-size» prawns, plumper and meatier prawns * Salted Chicken Fried Rice — it’s one of my favorite dishes and they do it right here * Lobster Lo Mein — pricey but worth it! They also serve refreshingly good smoothies. Their signature Chocolate Covered Fortune Cookies are always a nice treat vs. the typical regular fortune cookie. Nice space to dine in — modern, spacious, and clean. The owner Suzanne is always pleasant and welcoming. And her waitstaff were attentive and friendly during the banquet. Always dependable and consistently good food!

This place is Americanized Chinese restaurant. If you dig chow mein, fried rice, orange chicken, walnut shrimp then this is your place. I’d call it an upscale of panda express. Service is definitely friendly. Price is decent. This place is actually better than the other one on Alvarado Niles. So if you are deciding which to go, I’d recommend this one.

TWICE now I have been in here and the service is just absolutely terrible. Same two rude women servers(one younger one older). I gave this place a chance on two occasions, about 6−9months apart. WONT be back Clearly as busy as they get at lunch(the only reason I can think of is because of all the businesses around.) they need more served than the two women who can’t seem to seat and one or take orders or serve in and sort of order. this past time, after waiting 10 minutes for a server, then being told«yea yea yea» ALLTHRU a question I was asking…3x I got up and walked out. Although i didn’t eat there this time, I have before and the food was nothing special

***EDIT*** I am going to miss this place! Wish they didn’t move out of state =(. Love this place, I’ve been going to the mother restaurant Rose Garden since I was a kid. I have to say that I love the Wonton Soup here. The broth is tasty and CLEAN. I can’t stand Wonton Soups at other restaurants that have specs of chicken residue in it… thats just gross. This place is exactly the opposite… CLEANCLEANCLEAN. Their salt and pepper calamari is super good as well as their chicken and lettuce cups. Just some advice… their sweet and sour pork is good but get the sauce separate, it works well as a left over when you pop it in the oven and microwave the sauce. Minus one star for location, it’s a mother to try to park in Union Landing.

Appearance-wise, Roses, looks like an American Fusion type restaurant where not a lot of Chinese people eat. This is just judging by location and the patrons dining inside. Don’t be fooled. Roses is a NICE authentic Chinese restaurant. Its CHEAP, the food is DELICIOUS, and the service is EXCELLENT. This is a GREAT place to bring a date because its a nice setting and they serve wine and alcohol. I strongly recommend the Shanghai Noodles if you’re eating A LACARTE… and the Seafood Tofu Claypot if you’re eating family style.

Yopu would think that since its in the middle of a busy commercial/retail district, this place would have that Americanized taste. Surprisingly, its pretty good, and doesn’t have that Americanized flavor to it. My family always gets the chicken fried rice and the seafood Hong Kong style/pan fried noodles. Those are usually standard when I’m out with the fams, and the pan fried noodles are actually better than I’ve had at other places in the area. Everything else was alright. Service was kinda slow when I last went. Well particularly when the waitress took too long to refill my drink. I just find it weird to have a restaurant as decent as this sit in the middle of a busy strip mall. Its usually packed around dinner time, especially on weekends. Whenever we order here, its just for to-go since we only care about the pan fried noodles.

Been going here since it opened and they have good food for a good price, and if you just can’t decide… they also make great recommendations. A few of my faves are their basic won ton soup, wont tons in chile sauce, singapore rice noodles, shanghai noodles. I know these are somewhat boring selections for my favorites… BUT, I actually do like everything I had there. If you’ve got a few extra bucks… the salt and pepper whole cracked crab is awesome… it’s just very hard to eat because the meat gets stuck to the inside of the shell. Good location as it’s close to everything and the interior is nice and clean. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable, too.

Surprisingly quite good. Very clean and tidy appearance. There is no shortage of Chinese restaurants in Fremont. «Ants in the the Tree» almost as good as Moms. «Chicken fried rice», nice. Fish Tofu clay pot? Thats what the 4th star is for. I never rate for service missteps. Servers are human beings. There are a variety of factors that combine to arrive at the service you receive. The only poor service I cannot tolerate is a) Forgetting to drop my order. b) A server that tries to make chit chat while I am in a conversation. c) takes my drink while there is even one ice cube left inside. Service was slow. William our server was good but they sat us in the rear. Inevitably when you want something you need to wave your arms like mad. lots of arm waving by other tables as well. Forgot my beer glass twice.

Chocolate fortune cookies are yummy. If you like sweet and sour Chinese food, then this is the place to be. If you want some really authentic Chinese food, then you may not want to try here. The service isn’t bad. Once they messed up our order and gave us a box of complimentary fortune cookies as well as a free plate of food(the one they got wrong). So. overall, not a bad place. maybe a little pricey.

(Overall grade: B+) If this is the Rose’s Café right next to the Century 25 movie theater, then I’ve gone to this restaurant for years. It’s one of the best looking Chinese restaurants you’ll go to. The atmosphere is nice. The prices are decent, service is good, and there are many tables. If you like chicken, then I highly recommend the Chicken with Green Beans. It’s a big dish with ALL White meat, skinless, boneless chicken, with the fat cut off. I love that! There are a couple of clay pot dishes that are good too. Everybody I’ve been there with has liked Rose’s Café.

Our Lowe’s adventure left us hungry, and this megalomall had every food chain known to mankind(and some we’d never heard of), but still, we thought, «How bad could it be to eat at the mall?» Everybody in Union City seemed to be there on a Saturday night. When in Rome, right? There were all kinds of place that served meat in any manner you wanted, but we picked Rose’s for the hope of a vegetarian option and some non-blaring non-glaring atmosphere. We got both. I’m not sure the food lived up to the atmosphere they were going for, but it was OK. The folks there were very friendly, and the food came out quickly enough(but was obviously cooked to order). Probably the best part was the chocolate-dipped fortune cookies. If this was my local Chinese delivery place, I’d be happy. But I don’t know that I’d go here if I wanted an upscale Chinese dinner.

I went in for dinner since it was right next to the theater where I just finished watching movie. I noticed from the outside that there wasn’t any Chinese people in the restaurant… Not a good sign. I tried to keep my hope low so I don’t get disappointed. Overall the food was mediocre, and many dishes were pretty Americanized. For example, chili won ton(red oil wonton) was not spicy or red. The wontons were in some kind of not very spicy soy sauce on a layer of spinach… It tasted OK, but definitely not Chinese. The black pepper beef was tasty but the fried rice was only so so. I appreciate the fact that the restaurant looked very clean, simple and new. I didn’t leave disappointed, but I will probably just stop by Texas Roadhouse or TGI Friday next time when I am hungry again after movies. If you are hungry for Chinese food and happened to be in the plaza, this would be the place to go. But it’s definitely not worth it to drive all the way here if you are somewhere else. P. S. You get a free box of chocolate dipped fortune cookies if you kept your ticket stub from the theater. Those are YUMMY!

This place sucks! I wanted wonton soup and when I got it, the soup taste like water! hot water! No flavor at all. The wonton soup here did not have any veggies as well. It looked like… little brains in hot water. yuck! never will I order that. But the hot and sour soup was okay and their fortune cookies were yummy. The only reason why I would go back are for the fortune cookies.

Uh…4 stars before, taking 1 off after reading review below… EWWWWW Original review: I had absolutely zero faith in this place as it’s in the middle of a huge strip mall. Surrounded by your typical American chain cuisine and an AMC or Century movie theatre. This place really exceeded my expectations — it was like a little Asian oasis of goodness. We all had the wonton soup which was excellent… not greasy with yummy wontons(although FYI the shrimp is in the broth & not in the wonton). Reasonably priced. Good steamed veggies too(I know, who the hell orders that… I have odd friends). Actually, order the steamed veggies & dump into broth like I did :) Plus, they have good fortune cookies.

This is the sister restaurant to the long running Union City tradition, Rose Garden on Alvarado Niles. Roses is actually one of the very first tenants of the love it or hate it center known as Union Landing, and it seems to be operating just as well as when it first opened. Most of the business is carried over from the massive Century 25 movie theater in the evenings or weekends. It would be very easy to look at this place and immediately assume it’s watered down, Americanized Chinese food. However, such is not the case. Although the clientele is indeed mostly non-Chinese, the food is not dumbed down one bit, in my opinion. The hostesses all speak Cantonese as well. I usually order the staples, such as Singaporean rice noodles(sing jao chow mai fun) or beef chow fun(gon chao ngau hoh), and it tastes just about as good as any of the restaurants in Milpitas or Oakland Chinatown. The portions are also HUGE. I usually share one plate with my mom(for take out), and both of us are still stuffed. The prices are slightly higher than some equivalent establishments elsewhere, but that is to be expected in such a high rent district. The décor is rather tastefully done, and has kept up over the years. It is slightly more upscale than the other location, and almost has the feel of a lounge. I also like the tall windows that allow patrons on that side of the room to see all the pedestrians passing by. I wouldn’t say that this is my very first choice for Chinese food, but if I’m in the area after a movie, Roses certainly isn’t a bad option for dining.
