This review is way over due! I came here on Sept 23rd2015 with my two kids 10&5. I trusted this place to cut my hair and my female hair dresser did not listen. She cut way too much than I asked for. My hair was in my eyes that it blocked the view to the mirror so I couldn’t see too much often times. I was pretty upset with results and my stylist was not empathetic. I took my wallet out to pay with my debit card and she refused it and said Cash Only. I looked around and there was no sign«Cash Only»! Anyway, I said, ok let me go to the ATM at Fremont Bank and I will return to pay the $ 28 for the service. As I took my children with me she immeditaly declined and said«No, you leave your children here»! I refused to leave them and she blocked the door and kept my children from going out with me. My children started crying and on top of it she held my daughters arm. I was so furious and demanded her to release my children. Luckily there were two ladies outside that helped and told her that what she did was not right. I got my kids and I went to the bank to get the cash. I came back to the salon and said here shame on you for doing that! She declined the payment but I left it on the counter. Don’t go here! Sorry Oscar my family came to you often but because of this incident the trust is gone! Shame on that lady!

My family and I travel all the way to Oscar’s Beauty Salon from the Peninsula, and it’s worth the trip! My mom and I have gone to multiple salons throughout the Bay Area – ranging from the acclaimed and pricey to the small and affordable. One day, we were tired of looking around for a good salon, so we decided to try Oscar’s, the place where my dad and brother have gone to forever!(My brother has been going to Oscar’s since he was a baby – he’s 18 now, which shows how well-established the salon is in the East Bay). I can honestly say that Oscar is the only person who can work wonders on my hair. He takes a long time to cut and style, but he does thorough, quality work. I always get compliments on my hair, so he’s definitely doing something right! He knows how to cut my fine, Asian hair(without making me look like an animé character) and is an absolute pro at «framing the face.» I also have to give a shout out to Dong and Nancy, Oscar’s siblings. They, too, do a great job and are very skilled at their craft. Needless to say, my family and I love Oscar’s Salon and are fans for life!

I tried this place out today, and Oscar is a super nice guy! The salon itself is sorta icky, but I didnt mind because I knew I was coming into a place for a cheap cut. I told him that I just wanted my hair thinned out because it’s just a little too thick. He started saying he’d trim off some of my split ends as well but i told him I was concerned about keeping the length so I preferred that he do minimal trimming. The cut took a while, and turned out alright. With that said, I thought I was coming into this place to save a few bucks but he charged me $ 37. Um… Wtf? I could have gone into a much livelier place and gotten an even nicer cut for the same price. If you wanna try this place for the reason I decided to try it out(in hopes of saving money) then I suggest you ask him before he starts cutting how much he’s planning on charging. Overall, would I come back here? Sorry Oscar, but probably not.

I have been going to this place for about 10 years now. I only get a hair cut once or twice a year. I’ve tried switching salons a few times and was disappointed every time. I would come back here to get it fixed and Oscar did just that. My hair is long, thick, straight, and corse just like a horse hair. I love the way he styles my hair. When the cut has outgrown the cut still looks fresh and clean. So if you have my type of hair. Oscar is the one and the price is very affordable.

I went here earlier this year for a cut. 1 inch trim, fringe(straight across/china) bangs. Something re-inventing a pass haircut(shown in my profile picture). I did not get what I wanted, but i got the usual Asian layered hair with side swept bangs. I don’t know how specific I could’ve been. And just because I was not Vietnamese, doesn’t mean I don’t understand, as they were throwing Du Ma(Mother Fu****) and other curse words around like I did not comprehend any words. BTW, my best and closest friend is Vietnamese. Anyway, my family comes here on a regular basis, i suppose they like his styling, but I definitely disagree. My cut was $ 35, even though I felt like it was overpriced. By the look of the salon, and no customers, I felt bad and gave $ 40. The location is within a small dead plaza in Union City. The salon inside was disgusting. especially for the price of a decent haircut? Dirty, dusty, smelly, un-organized, just plain unattractive to go in. I DONOTRECOMMENDANYONETOGETCUTHERE, I’d rather go to Excellent Hair, which is located in the same plaza.

I went here yesterday for a hair cut and I absolutely love it! I came all the way down from Pittsburg just to get my hair cut here and I’ll be definately returning. I came here on a recommendation since I’ve had bad experiences with other salons that don’t know how to cut Asian hair. I was happy to see they had a wide variety of hair cut/style magazines including Japanese hair cut magazines. Good sign for me! My hair cut and blow dry was cheap and fast and it looked just like the picture. Oscar is amazing. FYI, the person who recommended this place to me goes only to Oscar’s to get his long thick wavy, hair cut(very different from my own thick, coarse pin strait hair). So in short Oscar can tame any type of hair for men or women. On top of that he’s fast and inexpensive. Note: Parking is ample. Lots of food places to hang out if you happen to bring an an entourage. Nail place near by in case you wanted to dedicate a day to beauty. Safe neighborhood.

Nice looking salon. However, the guy who cut my hair did not even look at the picture that I was trying to show him. I was expecting a 1930s haircut for the play that I am doing soon, but instead got a good majority of my hair chopped off. It looked nothing like the picture.

i should have done a review for this hair salon years ago. this is theee best hair salon ever. i got my highlights here and i love it! their prices arent bad either. the workers are very nice =) my daddy goes here all the time. i was going to get my bang trimed at the hair salon by the new barber shop but the lady didnt have time to trim my bangs b/c she was doing a color. seriously it takes less than 5 mins to do a bang trim… so i went to oscars and they did a wonderful job and fast service.

After a horrible experience at New Image Salon, my friend suggested that we should try to go to her regular place which was Oscar Beauty Salon. Like Allison W. said, its a small shop run by Vietnamese people and they can take 3 – 4 people at a time depending how many people are working. Oscar is the person to get your hair styled for sure! My friend came in and wanted to get her hair done for prom with some crazy curls and lots of volume and Oscar did it exactly what she wanted. It was very complicated to do and yet Oscar only charged us $ 35 bucks which was amazing compared to other salons like New Image Salon what wanted $ 75. They accept appointments but when we come, we just walk in, but if you’re gonna get hair coloring or anything complicated of that sort, then maybe you should get an appointment. The place is clean and organized which is a plus because it makes me feel more comfortable that scissors and such are sanitary. And if you bring someone and are just waiting for your turn, they have a plasma television in the waiting area which makes time go by much faster =) 5 stars most definitely to Oscar’s Beauty Salon.
