So I’ve been driving by this place on my way to Stanley’s and I’ve always wondered. This trip I could try both so I ate here first. The reviews that say it is bad? IMO they missed it. Yea, the ribs were a little dry but that’s the way these are cooked. The 5-star ratings? They missed it as well. This ribs are a solid 3-star. They’re as good as, or better than, Bodacious out on I-20. I won’t say that I will not return but there are better ribs close by so the odds are good I’ll be eating at another bbq joint.

Business lunch picked by my customer. We got it to go and brought back to their office. Would have preferred to taste it fresh. I got a Po Boy and Fries. The sandwich was pretty big with lots of meat. There was brisket, sausage and some other meat(not sure what). The brisket was excellent. Actually all the meats were very good. The fries were dried out and a little cold… perhaps because we got it to go. The sauce provided with the sandwixh on the side was also very good!

My high expectations were met with stark disappointment. Had ribs an sausage. Both meats had a good smoke flavor but the ribs were very dry and a little salty. The sausage reminded me of a low grade grocery store brand and didn’t have a good texture. Sides were the only highlight. Potato salad was 2nd or 3rd best I’ve ever eaten and the fried okra was off the chain delicious. The BBQ sauce was awful, bland and the 2nd worse I’ve ever eaten. The staff were very friendly and I did felt welcome. The décor was very warm and charming.

My second experience with Texas Bar-B-Q was here. I loved it. The sauce was my new fav and I’m sure leaning toward hickory smoked flavoring. They also changed my mind about liking sausage. It was good and they serve a lot of food. Could maybe switch up some sides. I’ll avoid the lunch hour rush next time and there will be a next time.

The worst and most overpriced BBQ I have had. The meats had no taste and the sauce was even worse. The sides has been sitting out for far too long and tasted like crunchy bites of fried nothing. My first and only visit to this place.

Been here 3 times & not sure I will return. We went on a Sunday & the fries & okra had been sitting out to long. Gotta have those fresh. The help is not excited at all to see customers or be helpful. That’s as important as the food to me.

Yeaah I wouldn’t give this place five stars if my life depended on it. The food is bad, just plain bad. The meat is dry, tough and bland as all get out. The ambiance is ok, typical of most bbq places. Never really a line, probably because the food isn’t that good. If you must good do try the peach cobbler, at least you can eat something good there.

Rustic & country décor. Food was just okay. Nothing great. Service was decent, although nothing to brag about. BBQ sauce was not great either. Definitely others I would recommend.

I decided to give this place a shot based on its Unilocal ratings — it didn’t disappoint. Very rustic, country feel. The food was very good. Had the 2 meat plate with chopped beef and hot link accompanied by baked beans and potato salad. The brisket was a little bland, but the sauce more than made up for it. The hot link was some of the best I’ve ever had as were the beans. It was worth the detour off of IH-20.

Growing up my family didn’t live too far from this wonderful place. The BBQ sauce they make in house and food is overall amazing. As a teenager I remember placing to go orders for their steak fries with that awesome BBQ sauce on top. Get the ribs they are great.

Awesome BBQ sandwich. The sides were equally good. Staff were all friendly and service was great. I will definitely eat here again the next time I’m in Tyler.

Great, east Texas barbecue. Great prices. Quaint vibe. Sides seem homemade and fresh. Love.

I was in Texas to visit my son and couldn’t wait to try some east Texas BBQ. This place was near my hotel so I thought I would give it a try. The food was every bit as good as I was hoping it would be! We had the special which included beef and sausage along with two sides and sweet tea. Under $ 20 for two people with plenty of leftovers! The restaurant is small and cozy with cool décor. The portions were HUGE and would have easily fed two adults. It was nice having leftovers though. The cashier who was working that day was not very friendly but the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very tasty. I really liked the hickory smoked flavoring and they have a very good BBQ sauce. The slaw is fresh and potato salad is good too. Love the décor– very Texas-y.

Some restaurants use pecan, others hickory and some others use mesquite to smoke their meats. I personally prefer pecan but HF’s meat, which is cooked w/hickory is quite good. I think some people are sometimes turned off by the difference in flavor, not realizing it’s the wood that may make the difference rather than the restaurant’s cooking expertise. HF’s meat was tender and thoroughly cooked. The restaurant is clean, staff is polite and their menu is as pricey as any other BBQ place I’ve visited recently.

This place is the hubs favorite bbq joint in Tyler. Why? I have no idea. I begrudgingly go here every time we are within the Tyler area. Before we got here I bitched about not liking their sides as the real reason I didn’t like it. The Hickory Fare Gods must have heard me because I get there and they have new potatoes and green beans added as their sides. Before it was just steak fries, potato salad, and cole slaw. Yuck. The new additions made me very happy. Had the standard chopped beef sandwich. It’s, eh, ok. Nothing to jump up and down over. Nothing is worse than bitting down into a big chuck of fat. Nas-ty. The meat is tasty, I discovered that the bbq sauce is what is lacking. My husband swears by the sausage and baked beans.
