I went here for brunch with the boos family before heading back to the cities. It sits over the shore so almost every seat gives you a view of Lake Superior. On weekends they have a Bloody Mary and Hot Chocolate bar. Sadly I could not do this since it was a slow weekend. They have a fairly good brunch menu with pancakes, eggs and other varieties. The corned beef hash was pretty good, but the corned beef got a little over cooked. I had the salmon and bagel with onions and tomato. It was a bit underwhelming though as they gave a tiny amount of chopped tomatoes and onions. Definitely not enough for both sides of the bagel. They did have enough salmon which was great and enough bagel spread. We also got a complimentary fruit cup that had pineapple, melon and raspberries. Overall it wasn’t too bad but definitely not as good as some other spots along the north shore. I would go back to try the hot chocolate bar, and another menu item to make a final determination on whether I like this place.

Stopped for lunch, wife had soup and salad, the chicken & rice soup was delicious and the lingonberry dressing on salad was tasty. I had the bacon wrapped duck and the trout cakes appetizer were both good. Great views of Lake Superior, nice bar area and outside deck. Service was good.

Beautiful VIEW of Lake Superior, but be prepared for pricey drinks & food. Maybe offer a discount for guests? Loved my adult raspberry tea & rainbow drinks tho.

This place has a patio with a nice view of Lake Superior. Since we were already bloated from eating-out three times a day while on vacation, we just ordered the North Shore Sampler. It’s an appetizer platter(see their appetizer menu for details). Normally, this is the sort of stuff that my wife enjoys. This time, not so much. Normally, this is the sort of stuff that I hate(fru-fru food). However, I actually enjoyed it. Go figure! Also, the water they serve is from Lake Superior. After drinking the swill in Minneapolis that’s from the Mississippi River, it tasted great.

Well… I don’t really have much good to say here besides the view of Lake Superior. To start, we had to bus our own table, clear the dishes and glasses because we wanted to sit outside and that was the only decent table that wasn’t directly in front of the window. The glasses for soda were VERY small. I had to get multiple refills. Which brings me to my next point, the service, terrible. After cleaning our own table we ordered. The waitress did not write anything down, so naturally, there were things wrong, and stuff forgotten. I ordered the cheeseburger and let me say, after chewing through the hardest bun I’ve ever bitten into, the burger was pretty good. The fries were pretty enjoyable as well. Oh, I don’t want to forget this, THEREWEREFLYSEVERYWHERE. On my food, arms, legs, you name it. At least 10 around our table. I recommend sitting inside not only because of that, but there were no umbrellas so the sun was VERY strong on us. So, if you go here, don’t expect anything super.(If you can even find the place, no signs anywhere).

Very nice view of Lake Superior. However, that was by far the highlight of our lunch. Brother had a hair in his burger. Server did not write down our orders when taken. Thus, forgot two side dishes and soup. If you are going to show off and not write down the customer’s order, you absolutely must 100% get everything correct. My chicken sandwich was good, but the overall mood at the table was somber after the sub-par experience and hairball burger.

Great location but less than acceptable service. The wild rice bread is worth stopping for!

Me and my family were staying at the Grand Superior Lodge for a wedding and tried the Splashing Rock because it was located at the lodge, the family were all meeting for dinner and, frankly, there isn’t much else around. I had high hopes. There was a beautiful view of Lake Superior, the menu looked appetizing and they were putting up with our family’s nonsense quite patiently. :) That was where it ended. Throughout the party, we had a pretty good sampling of their menu. I, personally, had the Whiskey NY Strip. All you can eat crab legs, Walleye, and pasta was also covered. We had a decent sized party; however, we waited close to two hours for our meal to be served. At first we were okay with it because it gave us time to visit and catch up, but after awhile we were hungry and it was beginning to become an issue. I do know why it took so long, though. They had to cook my steak for the entire two hours in order for it to become leather! When I received my steak and cut into it, not a drop of juice left the meat; their wasn’t any. Now I have had some shabby steaks in my travels but this one ranks at the top. I wasn’t the only victim, either. Every single person that ordered the steak, including my daughter, had the same experience. I brought it to the attention of the server, told her I was going to choke it down because I was now beyond hungry and didn’t want to wait another 2 hours; however, it still showed up on my bill at full price at $ 26 per steak. Others that ordered the«all you can eat» crab legs didn’t actually experience«all you can eat» because they ran out. The Walleye was described as average. The chicken pasta was described as good. Needless to say we didn’t eat there for the rest of the weekend. We actually drove 15 miles back into Two Harbors to eat at Judy’s Café, which was delicious as always, just so we didn’t have to take a chance on blah overpriced food. To their credit, the food at the wedding the next evening was pretty good. I still would not eat at the Splashing Rock Restaurant ever again.

We actually had a pretty nice experience here. Though based on what others have said, I get the sense that this place is inconsistent. My family and I stayed at the hotel during a slow week, so perhaps that made the difference. I had the duck breast and it was perfection! Loved the seasoning, sauce, sides — everything! Duck is something I frequently have so am pretty picky about. But I thought it was fab. My husband and daughter had a burger and were pleased. My husband thought it was a bit overdone, but didn’t think to specify how he wanted it(and the waitress never asked). The tater tot side on the kids meal were pretty greasy and nasty though. The waitress was friendly and really helped us out with my baby… He refused to eat anything but oatmeal and she was able to accommodate despite it being evening(the oatmeal was ample and delicious too!). Otherwise she was a bit clueless, not knowing the specials, or much about the meals themselves, but she would go and ask, so no harm, no foul. We also had breakfast here. The ham and cheese omelet was tasty, but nothing you haven’t had before. The pancakes were freakin enormous. Each was about 9″ in diameter and a half inch thick… And there were THREE of them. A bit ridiculous, but whatever. Overall, I would recommend, particularly considering the location. And if you are staying at the lodge, it’s a no-brainer for simplicity sake.

We ate here a couple of times because of its convenience. Other than the previous review, we has breakfast, and dinner here again. I had the French toast and my hubby had the ham and cheese omelet. Both were tasty. For dinner, I had the crab stuffed rainbow trout and the hubby had the prime rib. Both again were pretty good, although there were two items we did not care for… the prime rib came with seafood grits, which neither of us liked. I thought this was an odd side dish for such a great prime rib; Any classic potato side would have been a better choice. I tried the French onion soup and was disappointed, as it had a strange bitter aftertaste. Both of us tried it, furrowed our brows and thought it was«different». As for the service, the bartenders were great, but the actual servers seemed bored and inattentive. They were still very nice to us though. Overall, nice enough place to eat, but there are plenty of other choices around the area that I thought were a better experience.

The restaurant has a nice view of lake superior, but the food is definitely the worst. I ordered the ribs and it came out not fully cooked. The appetizer was also bad. So go there for the view but don’t eat there.

They have coupons that make it a good deal, otherwise, the food is fairly expensive. The service is slow but the view takes your mind off it.

Beautiful views, but horrible breakfast. The food was overcooked, under seasoned, and over priced. Need I say more.

We have eaten here a couple of times. This restaurant has one of the best views on the north shore. It has big windows that over look the lake with nice views of the rocky shoreline. It also has a deck(no shade though). This is a review of our most recent experience there. We stopped for lunch on a Monday. There was only one waiter who was also serving as the host, busboy, everything. He clearly could have used some help as it was quite busy, but he was handling it amazing well and was very friendly. We got the crab artichoke appetizer that came with pita, it was very tasty. My husband got the smoked trout wrap and it was good. I got the trout sandwich and was very disappointed. The menu described it as coming with a generous portion of fish, when in reality it was a very large bun(good bread) and two tiny pieces of fish, small fish stick size. I didn’t plan on paying $ 14 for a bun and 2 small fish sticks. We also had both gotten fruit instead of chips and were very disappointed to be charged $ 2 each for a bowl of cantaloupe with 2 small pieces of pineapple on top. I doubt we will be back anytime soon, there are other options.

This restaurant overlooks Lake Superior and is connected to Grand Superior Lodge. We found the surroundings wonderful and the staff very helpful. We ordered the nightly special which was seafood over noodles. Because our waiter indicated that it was a large portion, we decided to split it. While the noodles were plentiful, there could have been more seafood. By itself, one person could have enough seafood, but this would have left a LARGE portion of noodles. A bit on the pricey side for what we got. Also, the waiter got confused several times. Maybe it was us.
