I got the orange chicken combo. 5.45 plus tax equals about 5.90. The rice was normal just typical fried rice. Nothing special about it. I really liked the chow mein it was nice. On the other hand the orange chicken was horrible and thats why its getting 3 stars. The chicken is covered in breading and it’s covered entirely in really thick gooey suace. Just bad in my opinion.

Oh hell no I went to this place today I don’t order the orange chicken unless you want a loaf of bread wrapped around it in rice taste like they dip it in some kind of sauce you do not want to taste orange chicken taste just like it had pesticide mixed with it I will not be eating lunch at this place again

Delicious beef chow fun! Good orange chicken and chicken fried rice. And on top of that cheap.

Never, ever go to this restaurant. It would be far better to go hungry than to give them one penny of your earned money. It is not very often I give one star. But when my wife ordered the family pack combo for dinner delivery via Doordash and got the bait and switch deal of a lifetime, it is my duty to tell everyone to stay away. The family pack supposedly comes with three entrees, fried rice, chow mein, soup, 2 egg rolls and 4 fortune cookies. The first sign of trouble after placing the order is being told that we owed double the original amount because apparently we didn’t order the correct entrees. WTF? Nowhere on the menu does it say we can only order certain entrees. Doordash stepped up to the plate and made up the difference which was really good on their part. But not after the owner berated the delivery driver and gave her a printed copy of the menu which unsurprisingly also doesn’t say which entrees you can order for the family pack combo. Oh did I mention that the order arrived sans fried rice, chow mein or 2 eggrolls? The food was so terrible I didn’t even bother to look for the fortune cookies. The food is so bad, it is a waste of Internet space to review. But this is Unilocal. In the interest of fully justifying to you why this place is not worthy of your dog, I will review each dish. Szechuan Pork — although not particularly spicy, I could overlook that. But«where’s the beef?» Seriously there is no pork in this dish. If I were to say that they threw some veggies together and some hot chili peppers and called it a day, it would not be too far from the truth. F– Broccoli Shrimp — oddly enough this was more spicy than the meatless Szechuan Pork. Maybe the chef got the sauces mixed up. At least there were plenty of shrimp. Broccoli and shrimp just doesn’t seem to be a good pair. Is it my fault for ordering it or is it their fault for offering it for sale. D Mongolian Beef — typically Mongolian beef doesn’t have celery, carrots or bamboo shoots but they do here. I’ve never had Mongolian beef without the white noodles. Sadly the highlight of the meal. I was disappointed after I finished my lunch($ 5.99 — 1 item combo, egg roll, 16 oz drink). It came to $ 6.50 with tax included. The rice and chow mein had no flavor. The tasteless egg roll not crispy after closed in togo container. It was a good amount of food, it’s a heavy container. The orange chicken imho was too sweet and the coating barely showed signs of crispness being coated in the sticky orange sauce. I poured the hot sauce they gave me all over the food and even that seemed to be thinned out. I don’t know if they water down the Sriracha sauce they put in the little containers. It just didn’t have that peppery punch. All of this screams shortcutting and cheap quality product. They definitely charge you a $ 0.30 convenience fee for using your cards as posted on the register. The positives: it’s close to work, very friendly ladies behind the counter, good value/food quantity, ample parking, not crowded at 12 p.m. Result: Chinese food craving not satisfied. I don’t know… but maybe they don’t season their food enough? I’m not a professional chef so, I can only guess. I can check the«been there and tried that» box. I won’t be returning, there are better restaurants out there to try. P. S. I don’t do franchised Americanized«Chinese» food… Will only go there for my kids who don’t know jack about the real mccoy. SMH, I don’t get how they think it’s good…

First of all, they are closed Monday’s. Using plastic will cost you an extra $ 0.30. You have to come to places like this when its around typical meal time to ensure optimum freshness. Sometimes you really have no idea how long something has been sitting in there. I’ve been here at «odd» times and some dishes has a dried up layer on it. As far as the quality of food. This is definitely better than Panda Express. But then again so is a lot of places(Capital Seafood, SamWoo, 99 Ranch). They really pack the food in so you are getting a lot for the money. Let’s be real for a second. Majority of places that serve«½/3 Item meals» are pretty much not«real Chinese» food, This combination thing is of American origin), but If anything is an indication of good Chinese food, it is that Chow Mein(stir fried noodles). That crap that Panda Express tries to pass off as chow mein is an insult to my people, have I had better? Yes! Plenty of times, after all I AM from Hong Kong. Their items are generally good though some are heavy on the oil(but really, aren’t they all?). This is one of those place I like to get food from when I get tired of all the other stuff in the are. If I have to give one recommendation on actual HONGKONG food, head over to «Tasty Garden» a just few miles away in Irvine. It’s not a ½/3 item type place, the price is higher, roughly $ 9 – 11 per dish, and it’s meant to be eaten family style… ish. But they are 95% authentic Hong Kong food(which is Chinese Food with British influences).

I love this place. The service is very kind and welcoming. The serving sizes are generous to say the least. I forget about that and I order 2 entrées instead of one I give 5 stars, even though the entrées sometimes are a bit lacking im flavor compared to places like Panda Express. However the serving size and cost make up for it(most of the time). The chow mien has always been great though!

Having lived in Tustin for 1 ½ almost 2 years, I passed this joint many a time. Going to grab a beer, the Trader Joes at the other end of Newport Avenue… whatever. Always grabbed my curiosity as it stands right near the edge of the street. The monthly Chinese food craving takes over. The keys turns and all 300 angry horses are charging down the few streets to the Hong Kong Express. I had the Combo A, which consists of fried rice, chow mein and one entrée. I went with double chow mein and proceeded with the orange chicken. We all know to go with the chow mein. Always go with the chow mein. And always get it To-Go. I have to say the service was friendly and the portions were, as many Chinese restaurants go, quite generous. However, I couldn’t help but notice how much syrupy sweetness was on the chicken. I mean it was drenched. The chow mein didn’t taste quite fresh(though at 8:30pm I suppose that’s on me). More disappointing, the chicken didn’t quite taste like chicken. Maybe Panda Express has become so good, particularly for a fast food joint, that they have become the gold standard. All I know is, I am full but my taste buds are regretting I didn’t drive the extra 4 miles to get a «proper» Orange Chicken dish. I’ll give it another shot of course and re-score the place. Everyone deserves a second chance. For now, I am thinking the extra buck or two for Panda is the way to go.

When I don’t want to cook I call Helen and ask her to fry me some fish and make beef chow fun. Tonight was even better. I asked her to make me some garlic shrimp and vegetables and it was delightful! I love this family, they work very hard every day and make delicious food. Don’t be afraid to call ahead and ask for something special and the chef(husband) and others do their very best. Good quality food and very reasonable!:)

I haven’t been to this Hong Kong Express in about 10 years. So I wanted to try them out. I found that the service was very good and very nice and friendly. But I was not happy with the food I just could barely eat it. Did tasted dry and oily and like it was a little bit overdone. I may go back again but only if I can’t find another place.

We came here for lunch and my husband ordered the chow mein and orange chicken. It was ok. The food did not taste entirely fresh. It was kind of plastic-like, which was probably a result of being under the heat lamps for a bit. He liked the flavor, but as he put it, it was«not Panda Express». However, they were also cheaper than Panda. I enjoyed watching the tv and eating my sandwich I brought in(since it didn’t seem like they had anything vegetarian). The staff were kind and it seemed like this place was family-run. So it is good if you are craving cheap Chinese, but remember that you get what you pay for. :)

Originally, i wanted to give it more stars but two is really what it deserves. First off, you have to pay $.30 to use credit card — is this legal? The food looked fresh, the service was fast and friendly. They have $ 4.99 one item combo which is large enough for two meals. The chow mein is very basic and lacked flavor. The orange chicken is all batter. I should have driven the extra distance for Panda Express or Pick Up Stix. This is a cheap Chinese fast food place.

I’m actually disappointed that we didn’t try this place sooner. The food is delicious. Everything is seasoned perfectly and has a distinguishing taste(it doesn’t all taste the same like most hole in the wall places). Prices are really good. Customer service is awesome. Of course, it’s fast food and sitting under a food lamp so expect just that. Chow mein, egg rolls, and mushroom chicken are my favorite!(Tried broccoli beef and jalapeño chicken which are equally as good!) Give it a go… you won’t be disappointed!

Great food! Much better than Panda Express! The lady was very nice and service was prompt. I mean this place gives you large amounts of food, quickly, and with excellent service. And the food tastes great. Orange chicken is always a good choice. Pork tastes great! And the chow mein and fried rice are delicious! I had a good experience and definitely coming back next time!

It’s my first time to consume here. Compared with Panda Express, the flavor is better and the price is also lower. If possible, I’ll have lunch here again.

WARNING: I have been eating here for 4 years. This place used to be quite good a couple years back. Now, with a new manager, the food is mediocre at best. Went there last week & there was a stench of sewage throughout the place. Tried it for the LASTTIME today. The backup of raw sewage was so intense throughout the restaurant that the food tasted like feces. We couldn’t finish our food kind of bad. It was nauseating & when I mentioned it to their staff, they couldn’t care less that the place smells like a fermenting turd. Sense of smell and taste are connected, so the food will taste like literal shit !! I feel ill from Hong Kong express as I type this message. They lost a long time customer today., I’m going to call the health department next. F&^$ those nasty people & their filthy smelling diner. NEVERAGAIN. KROTCHHAMILTON P. S. I just blew chunks. F.U. Hong Kong Express !!
