Impressively disappointing sushi coupled with bad HVAC. I lived in Japan for 7 years and know good sushi. Before today, I didn’t know what truly bad sushi was. One star for teaching me something. No stars for sushi created by unskilled ‘chefs’ with no business touching fish or rice. The rice was too heavily seasoned, dry to the point of almost being hard, and yet still so heavily compressed that the rice was a heavy brick. The fish was poorly chosen with little flavor. My scallops were most definitely off — to the point of making me worried about the rest of my evening. Presentation was haphazard and unthinking — no care was take to pleasantly arrange the sushi or select a better suited size plate. The HVAC was blasting cold. The waitress recognized that the vent was poorly aimed and too cold — but despite requests for relief, all we managed to do was find another table. I pity the folks who got seated at the table we left. My own bill was $ 30 for what was perhaps the worst Japanese meal I have ever had. Do not go for the sushi. Then again, not sure you should go for anything.

Yokozuna is a hip, tasty restaurant in Downtown Tulsa. The waiters are always great, the drinks are delish and it’s always hoppin’. Unfortunately, a lot of the sushi is fried, and it’s not as great as competitors. I recommend the squid salad, the Catalina wine mixer with sparkling wine and the Rising Sun Roll. A lot of people like the Hot Mess, but it’s too rich for me and is probably very high in calories.

Yokozuna has always been on my shortlist for go-to sushi options. The restaurant has beautiful décor, huge windows and a fun atmosphere for date nights or dining with family and friends. I love their weekday happy hour sushi with many of their popular rolls offered at a discounted rate! Any time I visit I can always rely on the meesh mash(basically a giant sushi bowl), the pupu platter, and the blue dome, hot mess and geisha’s despise rolls. More importantly, Yokozuna’s pork belly ramen is STILL my favorite ramen in town! Mouthwatering sliced roasted pork belly, fresh veggies and the tastiest broth that packs a spicy punch — what’s not to love? Wash that down with a Catalina wine mixer with sparkling wine and you’re golden!

This restaurant has a cool vibe but if you are expecting great sushi other than rolls with clever names this is not the place for you. Albacore sashimi was just 5 chunks of fish on a plate. Weird Service was very nice!

F this place! as in forget about it! This has to be the most poorly run restaurant in the lovely city of Tulsa. My date and I arrived around 7:30 on a typical busy Saturday evening in downtown Tulsa. Upon arrival I went to the hostess stand to give them my name and to request a table for two. The hostess informed me that the wait was 45 minutes, I said«no problem we will just grab a drink at the bar while we wait». The hostess asked for my phone number and told us we would receive a call when our table was ready. A few minutes later I received a text stating: You have been added to the waitlist for a party of 2. Text ‘9’ if you need to cancel. So we waited at the bar for 45 minutes while watching numerous tables become open and no parties being seated at the tables. They even set up a table for two right next to the bar where we were sitting that sat empty for 15 – 20 minutes. Finally I went to ask the hostess when our table would be ready and gave her my name only for her to inform me that my name was not on the list. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager was a young lady that was apologetic but really had nothing but a sorry excuse about they were using new software and didn’t really know how my name was omitted from the list. We were seated promptly only to have to wait for our waiter for about 10 minutes before he came to take our order. Having reviewed the menu online and having waited almost an hour we were immediately ready to order. My date ordered the salmon and I ordered a couple of sushi rolls. By this time we were both famished. After ordering we waited another 25 minutes without any sign of our waiter or our food. Finally we decided to cut our losses and go to an establishment in which we could actually be fed and served. We walked out unfed and proceeded to go to Charleston’s where we had a late but nice meal. Yokozuna is clearly poorly managed. I couldn’t tell anyone if the food is good or not because we left after spending at least an hour and a half without being served. The attitude of the bartenders was a mixture of: too cool for school /overwhelmed. The appearance of the entire restaurant staff was unprofessional. Honestly I can’t understand why this place was so busy in the first place. Why would customers flock to an establishment with such horrible service? I will never go back to Yokozuna. Next time I want sushi, I will go to Sushi-hana where the sushi is the best in town. My advice is to steer clear of the nonsense which is Yokozuna downtown.

Love Yokozuna! All of the rolls I’ve had are good. If you’re not big on actual raw fish and such then try the Golden Driller. It is really good and actually has seared beef. They have happy hour from 3 – 6 on weekdays, even Friday, and it is great. A lot of good rolls are half off!

Fantastic sushi for being landlocked in middle America! Visiting friends as we drove across the nation, they recommended this as the best place in Tulsa for sushi. We had a grand time, spicy, exotic, and well put together rolls. The service was prompt and the quality good. If I lived in Tulsa I’d be a regular! Great sushi!

This was my first time to eat sushi ever. I tried the Nutty Thai Professor and the Rising Sun. Both were amazing. I also sampled the Hot Mess which was just as enjoyable. The service was outstanding and even though it was busy, we could easily carry on a conversation without yelling. Can’t wait until the next visit!

Fantastic Asian cuisine in downtown blue some district. My favorites include pork belly Raman, pad Thai, and the HOTT mess roll. They have a great happy hour special on sushi. My favorite drink is the sparkling Catalina wine mixer. REALLY love Crystal and Alexis. They make the experience really fun!

Food is good but servers should be trained more on proper table manners. Considering it’s an Asian restaurant, I expected it from a Japanese restaurant.

Terrible food, terrible service, an unreasonable wait and they were understaffed. The Thai mahi tacos were nothing great, the lettuce mix on them was browned and the fish was overdone. I have no idea why they are called Thai since there was nothing Thai about it. My husbands pork belly tacos barely had any meat, more fat than anything and his lettuce mix was also browned.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place while visiting Tulsa, we stayed downtown and were looking for dinner. Since my boyfriend and I both love sushi, we thought we’d give it a try. We walked in on a Saturday night, the place was busy but we were sat right away. i ordered a Key Lime Daiquiri, which was disappointing, it was very small and not icy, but more like a melting slush. My boyfriend had water. We ordered 4 rolls, 2 simple rolls, 2 more complicated rolls, and miso soup to start. The service was okay, a bit on the slow side, but they were busy, so I’ll give them that. The miso soup was awesome, it was both hot and loaded with flavor! Our rolls came out in an acceptable amount of time, but we found them small and not satisfying. Our rolls were all supposed to be cold rolls, but we found them on the warm side. I’m one who likes my cold sushi COLD. Our bill with tip came close to 70.00, a little overpriced for just okay sushi and one cocktail. I hope to return to Tulsa one day and try some other sushi joints, still looking for one who compares with my hometown sushi favorites in California. If your looking for ok sushi and you’re good with paying too much, Yokozuna is for you, but if you are looking for the real deal and a reasonable value, I suggest moving on.

Think your run-of-the-mill slightly-upscale-but-not-really Americanized sushi bar and you have Yokozuna. Go for their 3 – 6 happy hour for sushi at the right price. I happened to indulge my desire for sashimi that day, and can tell you that the Tuna I got here(landlocked state we are in notwithstanding), was decently fresh and yummy!

I did not expect to find a decent sushi restaurant in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, but was pleasantly surprised by Yokozuna in the historic Blue Dome District along 2nd Street. There are two locations to this Asian fusion restaurant and sushi bar, but this review relates to the downtown location. Reservations are recommended on the weekends, but since we were there mid-week they were able to seat us right away. There’s a main dining room, a smaller side dining room, and then seats at the sushi bar. If you tell them that you’re there just for sushi, then you’ll likely get a seat at the sushi bar. The menu has quite the variety of Asian appetizers including Spring rolls, gyoza, pupu platters, and ceviche. They offer miso soup, and several different styles of ramen which were quite popular on this chilly January evening. The entrée choices were the traditional Americanized Chinese favorites mixed in with Pad Thai, Thai curries, and tacos made with pork belly or fish. I ordered some Miso soup and edamame to start, and then went straight to the sushi menu. I found a sashimi offering of Yellowtail carpaccio with a chili Ponzu sauce which was fabulous, and followed that with the Blue Dome Roll made with escolar, yellowfin and salmon rolled in masago and scallions. Both were delicious, and a real treat. If you enjoy Asian food, and find yourself in the Blue Dome Arts District of downtown Tulsa, then Yokozuna needs to be on your list of places to try.

I can’t understand the lackluster reviews because my visit was outstanding. The place is neat! Funky tables made from rough logs, exposed beam ceilings and brick walls gives a cool and industrial appeal. The bar and dining room are lit to the proper mood and man my seat by the window was spectacular! It was even warmer that I expected in the cold windy night of my visit. The staff was fabulous! From the Host to my FANTASTIC waitress to the food runner all top shelf and superlative! The Sushi options are ample and fairly priced however I opted for an appetizer and some noodles. Portion and presentation were spot on, I was impressed and can clearly see it’s all house made, Top Job Chef and kitchen staff! This place is a gem and I’m glad I visited!

Being that we are in the middle of the country it’s hard to get really good sushi and sea food and when you do you need to keep going back. Yokozuna, you are that place for me. I love going to Yoko in downtown. I like that the room is split up into different sections and they have a big back room for larger parties. The staff is super great and friendly. The management seems to go out of the way to make sure everyone is having a good time and liking what they ordered. The sushi is creative and tasty. I am a big fan of the geisha’s demise and the hot mess roles. Their roman bowl is SOGOOD, I recommend ordering it once to try it out. Also, the poo-poo platter is great for the appetizer on the table. The fortune cookies are unique and I’m always happy when I get a free appetizer or shot of sake in mine!

We had a dinner meal here about two weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, first signs did not point to a good experience. The front of house looked horribly confused. The girl looked stressed as all get out and with a 4 – 5 groups waiting to be seated and empty tables abounding… I was worried it wouldn’t be a pleasant experience. A waitress stepped in and seemed to deftly handle seating groups of people expediently so that helped manage the dilemma. After we were seated, after 30 minutes, we placed drink orders. Their mixed drinks are great and very creative with inventive flair. I had a pineapple drink that was tropical but I can’t remember the name. The sushi itself was pretty good. For being a landlocked state, I was very happy with the quality of food we got. Maybe not the most fresh seafood I have ever had on the face of the planet but still pretty delicious and filling. We had this sushi bowl with cucumber, pieces of salmon and yellowtail… whatever it was, I’d recommend it. Super refreshing and delicious. Dessert was a chocolate cake. Sad. Not my first choice but I do have to let my dining partner have a say every so often. The couple we were with had this coconut concoction that looked divine.

My girlfriend and I were downtown for a birthday party a few nights ago and were looking for something to eat that was open the night before Thanksgiving. We noticed that Yokozuna was open so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was not that busy and we were able to be immediately sat. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. Our waitress was quick and friendly. The menu had various options other than sushi like rice, noodles, and other dishes. The selection of sushi rolls was a little limited compared to some of the other places around town. We decided on try the Flaming Volcano Roll, Spicy Scallop Roll, and the Philadelphia Roll. Our food was delivered fairly quick. The presentation on the Volcano Roll was kind of cool since it was actually on fire. It was decent as well, but not the best Volcano Roll I’ve had around town. The Philadelphia Roll was actually pretty good, but is also very simple and hard to mess up. Neither my girlfriend or I cared much for the Spicy Scallop Roll. It just didn’t have a ton of flavor. All in all, our experience was perfectly adequate, but nothing that really stood out as a restaurant I need to make a regular destination. I am very much partial to another Sushi restaurant in town and I haven’t had anything else that compares(check my reviews).

I have eaten a many of dishes from Yokozuna and I will say that I have never had a restaurant be so accommodating with their menu as they we’re. I don’t eat meat but wasn’t wanting the basic veggie roll, they were able make me a dish of fish tacos but instead of fish, they made shiitake mushroom and asparagus. Not to mention that their option of having a «Chefs Roll» meant they had full creative freedom so it’s always different and amazing. No, this isn’t a «traditional» sushi restaurant but they are very good at what they do. Their sushi is wonderfully made by their chefs and will change ingredients as best as possible to help if you have any dietary restrictions. The environment is inviting and fun. It’s great for the evening time when grabbing dinner before a show but also good for lunch alone. They have a Happy Hour with decent prices. Did I mention they have BRUNCH? the potatoes alone will keep you coming back, seasoned to perfection. And the breakfast burrito is the size of your face, it’s huge. Theres always more I could say like, always ask for a side of wasabi mayo with anything you order-no matter what, but really this place is a good restaurant when you’re out. Be sure to bring a sweater though, it’s chilly in there sometimes.

Not the best sushi I have had. It is one of those places you read about in articles that say, how to spot fake sushi restaurants. They are downtown, so I get talked into going here often. The food is good, but not great. Service is not good, but again just convenient. More of a place to be seen.
