Nitro is an underground music venue and club with a rich musical history in the heart of the Pearl district. Starting in the 80’s as a punk rock venue and evolving through the years, the stage has seen the likes of acts such as the Flaming Lips, Kitty, and Powerman 5000. Many Tulsa musicians got their start on the same stage. Revamped in 2015, the room has been transformed with an Art Deco vibe and comfortable seating. There’s a touch tunes jukebox and some old school video games as well. It’s non smoking inside, but there is a patio area out front with seating for smokers. Vaping is allowed inside. The acts you’ll see at Nitro are very diverse. On Mondays, they have karaōke, Tuesdays they have open stage, hosted by Tulsa guitar legend Jeff Hail, Wednesdays are open jam nights, hosted by Heavy Jones, Thursdays you’ll see DJs playing everything from retro to house music, Fridays they typically have live bands. You’ll see punk, metal, hip hop, rock, post punk, funk fusion, jazz, bluegrass or jam bands, and it’s all original underground music. Saturdays are normally dance nights with DJs, and Sundays have a more chill vibe with some downtempo/mushroom jazzy music. There is a full bar with a variety of liquors as well as beers, and they’ve usually got coffee too. Definitely worth checking out.

The other hoppin’ spot in the classic Pearl District. Was there for the Re: Wind party featuring DJS playing some of the best new wave, post punk, goth and industrial music there was to offer. The crowd was best described as eclectic. Nothing too fancy about this place. Decent sized bar. Limited drink selection, but very reasonably priced. Large dance area and a few places to sit on the side.

I am so excited for the revival of the Nitro Lounge here in the Tulsa Pearl District. With Lot 6, Papa G’s and The Phoenix this walkable destination is quickly growing in appeal. The music here is great, the bar tenders are friendly, and the drinks are tastey. I am excited to watch see what DJ’s they bring in as this place grows. Come check it out!
