Safeway Food & Drug

This Safeway might be the worst grocery store in the Oro Valley area. Its not very clean and their prices are higher than Fry’s. There is a Bashas very close and two Fry’s within a few miles. Its honestly pointless to go to this store with the Fry’s Marketplace on Thornydale & Tangerine… and I live right next door to Safeway.

Prices here are always a bit higher then the local frys… The selection at the deli is not bad but it could be better. I think they could do a better job in the meat department… There are never sales and it makes me wanna drive a bit further down the road unless I just need a few things… No issues with the staff though… Everyone is friendly !!

This store is not where I normally shop but it is closer to my home and i often go here in a pinch. The prices, in my opinion, are higher than Fry’s but this store shines in the area of customer service. I am not kidding when I say that during one visit I have been asked by 3 different employees if I found everything I need or if I needed help finding something. It is almost like they know their prices are higher and are trying to win me over with their service. If I didn’t save so much money going elsewhere I would shop here. The chicken tenders in the deli are really good if you need to stop and bring home lunch or dinner. They also carry lucerne dairy products which I believe make the best milk, butter, sour cream, etc. There are a few items I can find at this store that I do not find at the others. Good bagged cheese popcorn is one.
The store opens early at 6am so sometimes my wife stops and get donuts to take to her work. They make fresh donuts everyday and they are pretty good. We always get our halloween candy here because they have a better selection of individually packaged candy than Fry’s. They always offer to help you with your bags to your car though I never take them up on it. If you have not tried this grocery and customer service is more important to you than price, you should try this store.

My husband went in to get a couple groceries before heading home. Everything was routine until he got to the checkout line. He set his basket on the conveyor belt. The clerk looked at him funny, and Will stood there because she didn’t say anything, so he assumed nothing was wrong. She then flipped over his basket, which contained four or five items, dumped everything carelessly, and slammed the basket on the counter. Luckily there weren’t any eggs in there, or they would have been broken!
The next time we need to go to get a few quick items on our way home, this will not be on our list of places to go. If the managers condone this kind of behavior from their clerks, you are much better off going a few extra miles to Basha’s.

The Floral department at this Safeway is absolutely wonderful. I have had them do presentation bouquets, big floral arrangement, small floral arrangements, corsages and their presentations always look like anything you would get at a big name florist. The price is much more reasonable.
They just did the prom corsages and boutonnière for my daughter. The flowers were lovely and the price was extremely reasonable. And they held up through an evening of fun and dancing.
They have a unique selection of vases, too. The 2 gals I have worked with are wonderful. They always go the extra step.
