Know this before calling his office; Dr. Mayer is a concierge doctor. I don’t have an issue with his concierge status but be warned that YOUWILLNOTBEINFORMEDOFTHISWHENYOUCALLTOMAKEANAPPOINTMENT. My story: I called his office on June 30 to make an appointment. I told the lady that I needed a new PCP and was experiencing frequent dizzy spells. After confirming that he accepted my health insurance, she set my appointment date for July 6. When I arrived for my appointment, I was offered coffee and water and told to have a seat. No one took vitals or height/weight which seemed odd. A lady then walked out to the waiting room and began to explain the details of the concierge service. Once I told her that I wasn’t interested in the service, she said, «Then you’re not a candidate for this. Let me get you a list of other doctors.» WHY wasn’t I informed of his being a concierge doctor WHEN I INITIALLYCALLED? I could have then looked for another doctor instead of WASTING3FULLBUSINESSDAYS as I waited for my appointment. THISISUNETHICAL! It was obvious that the purpose of my 6 July visit was not to meet with the doctor but, rather, to give me the sales pitch. While this may sound dramatic, I felt like I had fallen victim to the bait and switch timeshare scam at a high end resort. This is UNETHICAL, especially when you consider that I told the lady on the phone about my dizzy spells.
