The food is great. But the lack of credit card acceptance loses them a lot of business. That’s the way the world works these days. I had forgotten this, and recently went there on a Friday evening. There were two tables occupied. Then I remembered the cash only policy, saw I didn’t have enough and left. I went to Mariscos Mazatlán on 22nd, and they were full. M Chihuhua would be full, too, if they woke up and realize they lose business.

Mariscos Chihuahua is a pretty casual spot that serves up some delicious mexican seafood. When I lived in Tucson, I went to another Mariscos Chihuahua occasionally. I only started going to this specific location when I was back in town to visit family. Most of my visits were to take food to go, with the exception of two visits where I dined in. My mom loved the campechana from here, and would request that I get it for her almost every time I came to town. The ceviche is also pretty solid. Service here could be friendlier. Their cash only policy can be a pain in the ass. Pricing is on the high end. But when my mom’s craving for campechana would hit, nothing else will do.

We had a wonderful meal. Love the fish in a fried onion and chipotle sauce. Huge portion of exceedingly fresh fish, by he way. I believe the fish was sea bass and perfectly cooked… This dish comes with a salad, rice, fries and corn tortillas. My cousins ordered fish Veracruzano and a whole fried fish. They enjoyed both dishes immensely. Mariscos Chihuahua’s salsa needs an upgrade(the chips are very good). Ask your waitress about the beer that is not on the menu. They do serve their beer ice cold. In Tucson this is very important.

Horrible customer service. they only accept cash. Food was ok. If you want to eat mariscos go to the one on Grande.

Lived the ceviche. It was delicious. Everything about the good was great until all 4 of my friends and I got sick from contamination. Will never go back to eating that food. Very disappointed.

4.5 stars for sure. Minus ½ star for cash only, kinda annoying. There were a few times we almost stopped in here but would remember the cash thing so ended up somewhere else for being lazy. But we finally got it together and went in for lunch. We tried the ceviche and fried shrimp. Our server helped us order the ceviche so we would get more for our money instead of ordering the individual orders she recommended a larger portion and that was appreciated because it was delicious and devoured quickly :) The fried shrimp are pretty straight forward but really hit the spot. We will definitely try to stop being so lazy about getting cash and be back soon.

The food is great! Three stars, though, because its cash only(kind of inconvenient) and we waited 20 minutes for a cup of ceviche. Tasted awesome though !

I am going to rate them at a solid 3.5 stars. They lose a half star because it’s cash only and everything on the menu seems to cost $ 12.95. First of all $ 12.95 is a bit steep for lunch and what kind of place in this day and age does not take plastic? Chips and tasty salsa to start with… no complaints there. I ordered the Camarones Culiche, which apparently translates to perfectly cooked, plump Mexican shrimp in a what-the-heck-is-in-this-very-delicious-but-very-green-and-cheesy sauce. Buttery rice, corn tortillas, a salad and condiments galore on the table rounded out the plate. If only I could figure out what was in that sauce… My buddy had the Camarones Rellenos. Well, let me tell you these aren’t your mom’s rellenos. The same plump Mexican shrimp stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and fried… ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. We did a shrimp swap and I gave him one of mine and he gave me one of his. If I were a shrimp, I don’t think I could decide which was a better way to go. Service kind of brought the whole thing down. We had to beg for our check and, even then, ended up having to go up to the counter and just pay there. The food was good but service, the cash only format and the price point is enough to take this out of our lunch rotation.

I have been searching good ceviche ever since my trip to Mexico, and I found it! I was so excited to find a relaxed place where ceviche can be found in a casual environment. I found the ceviche to be as good as the one I tried in Mexico and it was not at all Americanized! I topped it off with an ice cold Corona!

One of my favorite places for good, consistent, & fresh mexican seafood. The ceviche is bomb! The cocktails are all good & the service is always superb. Great place!

Based on my first visit, Mariscos Chihuahua earns a whopping cuatro estrellas. Between the three of us we had four entres: fried fish and fries, breaded shrimp and fries, a seafood stew and mariscos chillenos, aka crazy goodness! The fish and shrimp were pretty average, but the other two were unique and muy deliciousa. I missed three things at MC: any kind of green chile offering on the menu, beans, and real napkins. It may sound silly but with food that wants you to use your fingers, the host should really be providing you something solid to keep them clean. The rice, lettuce and tomato almost seem like an afterthought garnish to some excellent dishes. The staff was great, the food was well prepared and timely. It seems that the owners of these restaurants are satisfied with what they’re taking in because there is potential here for much more. Gracias a Mariscos Chihuahua, vamos a regresar pronto!

If I could give this place no stars I could! The food was actually ok, but expensive! We ordered to go and I asked for chips and salsa while we waited for our food, which I was told that I couldn’t have unless I paid for them. I asked if there was always a charge for chips and salsa and she told me that you don’t have to pay for them if you eat In the restaurant. I said ‘I just ordered $ 100 worth of food and I am here!’ Her reply was a shrug, literally. As we continued to wait without chips and salsa, I was going over my bill and realized that she charged us 9.6% sales tax, this was after I requested a receipt which was not offered. She was also calculating everyone’s bill on a ten key calculator and not ringing sales through the ‘cash only’ register. When I asked her about the tax she told me ‘they’ raised the tax rate last month! I’m in retail and I know ‘they’ didn’t raise the sales tax rate. Again I got a shrug and a stare. I feel like we were overcharged and I don’t think this place is paying taxes at all! The experience ruined my night. I will NEVER go back. Total RIPOFF!!! That’s what the sign should say. I’m reporting them to the IRS and the City of Tucson.

You know there are not too many good seafood places here around town especially for a cheap price. However this place was pretty darn good. I came and ate here with a few friends and the food here was great. We started off with an appetizer of Ceviche and that was delicious I never really had a restaurant style Ceviche as I use to always make it home made or at a friends house, BUT, this was good and it was a pretty good filling portion. The flavor and quantity of food was good. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d be full walking out but yeah my stomach was pretty happy and full. The staff here is pretty friendly as well and the decoration on the walls are all a pretty cool tropical theme making you feel that island like enjoyment. They have paintings of oceans and palm tree’s and the best part is that they stick out and actually feels like they are coming towards you! I’d recommend this seafood place to a friend!

It’s peculiar that this location has a lower rating than others in town, because I’ve only had good experiences here. Really, few places make a legit ceviche in town and even fewer actually use mexican shrimp. So, Mariscos Chihuahua earns is 4 estrellas for that reason alone and for serving up an impressive Callos de Hacha. Yum! Fresh scallops(seasonal) that are super thinly sliced and marinated in lime juice, served with a ton of thinly sliced red onion, cucumber, tomato and avocado. The small is the perfect size for two people to enjoy this dish. Since the scallops are not marinated with the red onion, this dish is fresh as can be and not overpowered by any other flavors. The scallops are tender and buttery. I was transported back to my childhood vacations at the beach in Mexico. Although the scallops were the highlight of this visit, the ceviche was no dud. It too was fresh and citrusy. And if you assemble your tostada the right way(mayo, then ceviche, then avocado and some hot sauce)…you’ll be in ceviche heaven in no time. It’s also worth pointing out that the shrimp was deveined and very clean… otherwise a major deal breaker for me. The ideal combo is to wash all this down with a crispy beer or a michelada! Service was so friendly, it felt like we eating at home. This spot is cash only… so remember to hit up the ATM before heading over!

First off I must say that the two ladies that attended me were very nice. However, I expected something really tasty. I ordered the Ceviche of Shrimp which was not bad at all. I also ordered the Botana de Pulpo y Camaron(Octopus and Shrimp), my shrimp were not split opened and cleaned. For $ 10.00, I would have wanted my shrimp deveined! The lime they had on it was soo soo much that I could only taste the lime it was overkill, almost bitter. The next dish I had was the grilled shrimp and was it salty! I was a little disappointed and don’t think I’ll be back.

Usually Mariscos Chihuahua has been the same everywhere for me. This time we were to lazy to drive to our regular spot so we went to this one, which is closer to my house. I dont think the food was the same at all. Ordered the same thing of course but the culichi was runny, not creamy. The shrimp was definitely not fresh and they didn’t have the tails pre-peeled. Not a big problem because its not hard to peel your own shrimp… just wasnt expecting to bite into a shrimp shell. Service was great tho, they werent so busy and the girl who works the front is really nice.

Despite everything inside of you that tells you to drive by, this place is fantastic. Stopped in around 3pm on a lazy Tuesday for lunch and was totally impressed. A surprisingly wide-ranging seafood menu, with traditional, unexpected and downright bizarre. All is well made, reasonably priced(for the massive amount of seafood you will get) and promptly served. Combined with a charmingly off-key interior and super-nice service, what’s not to like? For the record, I went all-in on my first order and got the Chihuahuita on my first order – a veritable cornucopia of seafood served in a huge plastic goblet, like a bloody mary from Mars or something – and was duly impressed. I can’t wait to go back!

You know, it’s hard with places like these. The exterior isn’t gorgeous — it’s not a place you would be super excited about if you were just passing by. Also, good seafood in Tucson, AZ isn’t something I’m usually hopeful about. I was lucky enough to have a friend who had a friend whose sister said it was awesome. And it is more than that. I’ve only really eaten one thing here… but I’ve had it over and over. CAMPECHANA! The first time I had it I had to close my eyes — little fishies and tentacles swimming around in salty spicy tomatoey soup, but I’m so happy I tried it! At 6 or 7 bucks for a cup, 10 bucks for a larger jug… it’s a wonderful, refreshing and healthy treat! Also, I should add that the girl who checks me out when I get something«to go» is always really sweet.
