Very good! The burritos are hearty and I love their Carne Asada. In Arizona my expectation of Mexican food is very high and these guys not only meet that expectation, but exceed it. The peppers were also very good.

I was skeptical about this place as we were looking for some Mexican food in Tucson before we flew back home to California. We wanted to compare Mexican food in Arizona, and looking at a picture of a hotdog dont scream Mexican food… you get the picture. That being said, this place serves very good Mexican«street» food with a buffet salsa/condiment bar that reminds me of my parents cooking. The restaurant has a dining space that is like a large awning building with huge windows that has about 20 picnic style tables with the Mexican flag colors on them. I really liked the set up, and in the middle you have a typical salsa bar that also includes grilled fresh jalapenos and grilled green onions, which is an authentic way to have tacos. We ordered a Sonoran hotdog, a caramelo(a quesdilla type dish with Asadero cheese), a lorenza which is a grilled tortilla that hardens like a tostada with cheese, beans, and lots of Carne Asada. I really liked the char flavor on the Carne Asada, and the molcajete grilled salsa is very good and tastes like my family makes it. Overall I have to give this place a 4 because their namesake item, the Sonoran dog is not my cup of tea. As a Mexican that really understands good Mexican food, I would say their overall selection of food tastes great and would be a 4.5÷5, they have a very clean restaurant, and fast service. I hope to be back next time we are visiting AZ.

Sonoran hot dogs! Start with a bacon wrapped dog and go from there. Not fancy but it is tasty. A few other dishes so will have to go back…

It’s an absolute classic in Tucson no matter what location you are visiting. You won’t find many another Mexican taco shops like this. They do serve up their food plainly to give consumers the option to flavor it themselves with a salsa bar that includes guac, pick, wet salsa, jalapeños and cooked onions. A must try!

Caramelo de asada con frijoles! I’m from LA and every visit to Tucson this place is a must. I love flour home made tortillas Sonora style. I love the salsas and toppings they have to add to it. They have Mexican sodas.

On my trip to Tucson, the non-Vegans all mentioned I had to get a Sonoran Dog, and the best place, outside a cart, would be El Guero Canelo. So on my way to the Airport, I made a quick stop off with my Über driver. If you’re a non-Tucsonian like me, a Sonoran dog is a hot dog, wrapped in bacon. Then for the bun instead of cut completely horizontally lengthwise, a slit is cut in the top and the hot dog put in. Then it is topped with mustard, mayo, salsa, onions, and probably some other stuff. Really fascinating and it was tasty. They also have tacos, burritos, and an impressive salsa/sauce bar, but I just wanted the dog. I also got the Jamaica drink — which is based off hibiscus. Really tasty, and disappointed I’m only now trying it. A cool part of this one is the seating area — huge, open and air conditioned.

Ok, so… I’ve tried the Sonoran hotdog pretty much all over town at this point, and this place has topped the list as the best one yet!!! The bread! OMG! The bread! Was soft and sweet… almost reminded me of a yeast roll… bacon around the dog… loaded with toppings… It’s probably safe to say that I most likely addicted now… The guac was delish! The building and seating isn’t much to write home about, but it’s pretty roomy and very clean. The staff was nice and worked fast. A manager even made the rounds asking us about our food and visit. I think I’m in love…

I love this place. This place is the reason I love Sonoran hot dogs and I can get Torres or burritos depending on what mood I am in. It’s fresh and it has never let me down. The flan is surprisingly good! I was impressed. I have also went to their new locations too

It’s simply the best Carne Asada you will ever have. Guy Fieri came to his place on DDD and I’m not sure that he ever tried the Asada. The Somoran dogs are good if you’re into that but we went for the Asada. The dogs were good though. Great sauces bar and fresh grilled peppers

When I travel, I let the Unilocal reviews pick my meals, so obviously I had to try this place out. The Sonoran dogs were really good. There’s a lot going on but it works. And hi, there’s bacon. Obviously you can’t go wrong. I was tempted to leave the beans off and add cheese from the condiment bar, but wanted to experience it the authentic way. The guac was delicious and a HUGE serving. My favorite part of the experience may have been the condiment bar. They truly had everything you could think of to accompany your meal. Can other restaurants implement this immediately? Definitely recommend this place if you haven’t been.

I love the dogs and wide selection of salsa. Oh yeah the caramelos are very tasty. I don’t know why people are being a sissy on the atmosphere these Sonoran dogs are originally sold on the streets of small villages or «Pueblos» in the state of Sonora in Mexico and people are there for one thing The Dogs, and an occasional Taco. So loosen up about the looks and appearance and service. So show up expecting authentic«street hot dogs» Sonoran style and taste the uniqueness of these type of hot dogs this very close to what you get in Mexico specifically in the state of Sonora. I would not go if the seating and atmosphere is what brings you as most people on Unilocal! Are they are«foodies» and a good foodie goes somewhere for exactly that, the Food! So enjoy! I know I did and I came back after my first time which was over a month ago.

Ok so while we vacation and took a road trip in AZ we stop by this hot dog place, let me just say we found it on Unilocal they sell everything from tacos to tortas but their main dish is hot dogs yes they where good but not as great as expected; I have had them in Mesa, AZ and those where fantastic, so the bread is sweeter the sausage like any Mexican hotdogs a wrap in bacon, this are Sonoran hot dogs so they come with onions, tomatoes and beans all inside the bun which does not hold the condiments as good but for the price you paid fort hem is not bad, so put as many things as you liked on your food they have a condiment bar and you can take anything you want even if is To-Go. So overall this palace was ok would not give more Stars because service was bad, food was ok and the cleanliness of the place wasn’t good either. I don’t think I will eat here again they have more places in Tucson and they’re delicious food.

4.5 Stars I’m always down for a good hot dog. I had seen this restaurant on tv before and hoped to one day make it down here. I live near Phoenix and there are some spots in town that make a Sonoran style hot dog. I never bothered to try one just because I figured that if I were to try one, might as well come to the OG spot to enjoy one. I planned our return trip from New Mexico to come through Tucson so I could sample some. I got there at about 1pm, placed my order at the counter for one regular dog no mayo, one Sammy dog(double dog) no mayo and one carne asada taco on a corn tortilla. I had a Mexican Coke to drink. Total was just under $ 11.00. A few minutes after I ordered, they called my number. Here is how everything was… Sonoran Dog– I sampled this one first. It looked great! You have this nice, soft, pillowy bun, stuffed with a bacon wrapped hot dog, pinto beans, tomatoes, onions, jalapeño sauce and mustard. I took a bite and liked what I had! The hot dog isn’t the best quality dog, but it works ok in this type of sandwich. The dog is wrapped in bacon so that adds another flavor profile to it. The bread is incredibly soft and easy to bite through. The beans actually work. I would never think about putting beans on a hot dog, but these beans were nice and soft and added a nice texture and they just work well! The mustard is your plain yellow mustard and the jalapeño sauce added a great flavor. There are tons of tomatoes in the mix too. Surprisingly, these dogs hold together really well and weren’t too messy either. Sammy Dog– Same as above but with 2 dogs. I liked this one better because its a better dog to bun ratio. The price is only like $.50 cents more, too. Well worth it for the extra bacon wrapped dog. Carne Asada Taco– This taco is presented with just meat on a tortilla. Cabbage is on the side if you want to throw some on your taco. I loaded up some red and some green salsa from the salsa bar and put that on my taco. The meat was perfectly grilled and had a nice smoky flavor to it. My tortilla was a bit thin though and fell apart about 2 bites in. A double wrapped tortilla would have been better. Still, a really good taco. Mexican Coke– The best! A glass bottle of pure cane sugar Coke. Love it! Overall, I was happy I went! The dogs are incredibly unique and delicious. If they used a better quality dog, such as an all beef hot dog, these dogs would be even better than they already are! I would like to come back to Tucson and have a Sonoran dog taste test/challenge. If others are as good as El Guero Canelo, I would be a happy man! These dogs are tasty!

If you’re visiting Tucson, or have family visiting who enjoy hot dogs, this is a must go! The Sonoran hot dogs are amazing and addicting. While visiting my boyfriend in Tucson before I moved here permanently, I heard about this place on Man vs. Food and just had to try it. We both immediately fell in love, and this place is now our guilty pleasure. I can easily eat two, and at times he has ate four or five. I’ve honestly never tried anything else because I cannot come here and NOT get a Sonoran hot dog, they are that good. They do have a small food truck outside some days that serves Churro’s and they will bring little ones inside for you to try. Once while here, the lady kept bringing them back for us to have more even though she knew we had already sampled them. Also, there’s just something about Mexican Coca-Cola in a bottle that’s so much better than canned Coca-Cola.

Great food and fun here at Güeros. There is a Sonoran Dog debate in Tucson, but I prefer this place(and all other locations except 22nd…) I celebrated(not the day of, but the week of!) my high school graduation, my college graduation, my Facebook account creation(hey, its a big deal), my engagement and my wedding here. I come here EVERY time I am in Tucson. Instead of driving into Mexico, I come here. It has the authentic feel in its décor and flavor. They have a full menu, with a full salsa bar(including grilled jalapeños and green onions!). Real Coke in a bottle as well. Stop by 1 of their many location accross Tucson!(and I believe they are spreading into Phoenix soon…)

I’ve come here so many times at the recommendation of friends. I always leave with mixed feelings. Back when I ate meat, I tried the famous Sonoran hot dog. I didn’t think too much of it. The white bread that it came on didn’t add anything, and the bacon was, well, just bacon… But, don’t take my words too personally; I formed these opinions just before becoming a veggie, so I am obviously biased. If you like hot dogs, white bread, and bacon, then this is the meal for you! Where El Guero Canelo really shines is its salsa bar. If you left me there, I would be able to demolish the whole thing. I love their pico de gallo, mild and spicy salsas, sliced radishes, roasted jalapenos, grilled green onions, and pickled vegetables. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a cheese quesadilla or bean & cheese burrito. Or maybe the quesadilla and burrito are just vehicles for the salsa, who am I kidding.

One does not go to Tucson and not eat the awesomeness bacon wrapped hotdog«Sonoran Dog». In late August I made a the long drive from Virginia to San Diego. Tucson, where the I-8 starts was my last sleep/rest stop. My hotel was on the west side of the city. I went 15 minutes a in the opposite direction to get to El Guero Canelo. Was tempted to try a food truck nearby but resisted. I’m happy that I found parking. The murals on the walls and parking lot are nice. I walked in around 1030AM. Half full dinning area! Was greeted in Spanish. I told the lady behind the counter that I drove almost 2,000 miles for a Sonoran Dog. She thanked me and said I better order at least two. I ordered 2 and a Horchata. It took a little long for the food to come out but good food trumps a long wait time. I ate them both straight up. No extra condiments added. Sonoran dogs are the Real Deal! Big bite of hot dog heaven. The bacon wrapped dog, relish, mayo. I couldn’t have asked for a better meal that day. Thank you Man vs Food for letting me know about this place. Bonus points: Under $ 3 is a steal. I’ve had crappy plain hot dogs that cost more. Win!!!

Had some time before my late morning flight home to stop and get a Sonoran Dog before leaving Tucson. This was the place a coworker sent me to and I found this specific location only a few minutes from the airport. I arrived shortly after 10AM on a Friday which should have been fine as they open at 8AM on that specific weekday, but I found out that they only had burritos or other breakfast items for sale that early. My look of disappointment(and probably some frustration) must have been obvious because as I half-stared at the menu, dejected, I hear someone yell from the kitchen«15 – 20 minutes for a dog». Well barely 5 minutes later they carry to my table something that looked even better than I had expected. From my friend’s description I was preparing for some sort of greasy mess which was going to be more of an event than an enjoyable meal. Like a chili-dog in terms of sloppiness in presentation and fear of an instant coronary(a bacon-wrapped hot dog?). But after the first bite I instantly regretted not getting two of these. The lightness of the bun and toppings mixed perfectly with the warm dog and bacon. First off it’s a standard, but great tasting hot dog hidden away under a soft yet seemingly toasted Bolillo bun. These are not slit end-to-end like normal buns but instead are cut into a pocket akin to a pita which help keep in all the diced goodness: tomatoes, onions, peppers and pinto beans(the latter clearly not being of the diced variety). The bacon was noticeable but not overwhelming; it was thin enough to meld with the hot dog perfectly, as was easy to tear as to not pull the entire guts of this thing out of the bun. The key is to get a little bit of each ingredient with every bite as it’s the mixture that creates the unique flavor. The different colored sauces drizzled across the top were some sort of mayo and a standard yellow mustard. The grilled yellow pepper on the side was a perfect addition to add a faint bit of spicy flavor to the meal in between bites. I’m already looking for those buns in Chicago to make these at home.
