In a town blessed with all forms of resale shops(AND Ground Zero for Buffalo Exchange) women’s resale wannabes must compete heartily. Saver’s, Speedway Outlet, and Twice as Nice round out the low-enders, where the ladies who shop sell and trade Cole Hahn loafers which might still have a hint of life or style, middle-of-the-road lines like Old Navy and Abercrombie, and nameless but trendy shoe brands that would do in a pinch. Madison’s used to be a reliable upscale resale boutique to buy and sell designer stuff you could bear to part with, at least until the change of ownership about six years ago. The new owner decided to aim for the over-60 clientele alone. A hipster-type couldn’t find a pair of paints that didn’t zip right up ribcage or an evening gown that didn’t look like Phyllis Diller had died in it. For upscale resaling, Class Act does display some consciousness of trend. Sure, Dior is timeless when the piece is a classic black fitted jacket, but not worth a couple bens for a paisley trench coat with shoulder-to-shoulder lapels three decades later. The owners of Class Act need to get a slight grip on value versus style with all of the local competition. Class Act, too, caters to crones(not a derogatory word by any means) so the service is a bit too fawning for my taste, but informed nonetheless. Worth a look-see.
