We had to euthanize our beloved, fourteen year old Belgian shepherd today, and, although it was one of the most painful decisions we ever made, Dr. Dosselman helped us through the whole process.
Lena had degenerative myelopathy (The equivalent of canine Lou Gehrig’s disease), and it was difficult to judge the right time to let her go. Because we had moved here only a year ago, we had not established a veterinarian yet in this area, but our former vet had told us the inevitable conclusion to this hideous disease; Lena was now rapidly declining. Dr. Dosselman handled my many phone calls and tentative appointments (always cancelled until today) with understanding and sympathy.
Today, he was the epitome of compassion, assuring us that it was indeed the right time, and then conducting the ending of Lena’s life in a dignified and painless way. Truly, Lena just went to sleep with my petting her and telling her how much she was loved. Because Dr. Dosselman is a mobile vet, Lena did not have to endure the discomfort or fear of an office visit. Instead, she died peacefully on her bed on the patio.
Although no one wants to have to make this decision, if you do, I highly recommend Dr. Dosselman.
