3.5 stars — for its standard, bread and butter, Lebanese goodness. I could eat here consistently, but that doesn’t mean it’s exceptional, or even great. It’s a place I would come to and know that I was going to get a good, cheap meal every single time. One thing that does stand out to me is the chicken shawerma. For less than five bucks, you get a fantastic shawerma that will rival or best any other place you might try. I’m somewhat of a shawerma fanatic, and Grape Leaves does it right. For that reason, I give it the extra half star. Otherwise, I would give it only three. Come here and know you’ll have a good experience. Exactly what you’d expect from a shopping strip located Lebanese restaurant.

This place is the best in town HANDSDOWN! I ordered the shish tawook sandwich, which is my favorite! It is juicy and in every bite you get moist garlicky chicken goodness. This place really cares for the customer and will go above and beyond to give you good food, good portions and great service. The staff is really friendly and service is speedy if you want to get in and out. I come here like 3 – 4 times a week, its that good. Everything is great here, if you have the chance try the raw juices which are excellent. The quality of the food is so worth every penny!

Normally order shish tawook which is typically extremely juicy from the chicken. In this case is basically a vegetarian variety no chicken to speak of; mainly lettuce(parts of the core included) and pickle, very disappointing

If you’ve read the previous reviews, you know the owner is loud and kinda mean. I spoke to my server once about his loudness and thats all it took. He doesnt understand what hes doing. He just needs folks to tell him. THe staff is amazing, and they love the guy, the food is the best middle eastern cusine around BARNONE so –ENJOY!

I come here at least once a week with either my boyfriend, his family, or coworkers. Arguably the best middle eastern food in the area. Always get the hummus plate for the table, falafel for an appetizer and the shish combo. Everything is fantastic and incredibly authentic. Their smoothies are fantastic as well. Grape leaves is definitely an under-rated hidden gem.

Best Mediterranean food around! Their Chicken Shwarma sandwich is amazing! Highly recommend!

We ordered carry out from here. The tabouli was amazing, it was very flavorful and hit the spot. The chicken shawarma was pretty good too. But the fattoush, my god it was awful awful awful!!! It was basically lettuce, tomato, and soggy pits chips– no dressing(it was dry!), no spices, and absolutely no flavor. Since this was a carry out, and I don’t have any of these spices or dressing at home– it was quite disappointing to waste money on this«salad». The size of the salads was a pity too. Normally I can split a salad with someone, but instead here I ate the whole thing and was still hungry. Would I go back? Not until they actually put dressing on their fattoush, a staple in any Middle Eastern restaurant, and make the salad sizes bigger.

The best hommus I have ever eaten is here. Also love their smoothies and their crushed lentil soup, as well as their lamb shwarma sandwiches. I’ve been coming here for years and highly recommend this place if you like middle eastern food. Exceptional!

First of all, I wish I could say I had the pleasure of eating here since fellow Unilocaler Elvis made it seem so wonderful. Hard negative. My boyfriend and I walked in at 9:34 exactly this evening after seeing the restaurant fully lit up like Yankee Stadium and other tables still eating. We entered and sat ourselves as directed by the sign in the front. Before my boyfriend had fully sat down a waiter approached us pointing to the menu, directing us, «We close in 20 minutes, do it fast.» Now, I understand the restaurant may have closing hours. I work in a restaurant as well. This is not how we should have been greeted much less spoken to. Not only that but the waiter did not even once look at my boyfriend, only speaking to me. Again, rude. We quickly got up as soon as we had sat and frankly will never return. One star for Grapeleaves, and if it was allowed, I would even suggest less than that.

Horrible service. The waiter gave us the wrong order. We pointed it out to him and he became clearly irritated. He argued with us and finally pulled out the order slip, only to prove we were right. He then got more annoyed, snatched the plate up and went to the back. A lady came to our table to have us explain the situation. She then said«so your not going to eat this, you’re going to let it go to waste?» Wow… We just want what we ordered, is that asking too much? The waiter was clearly upset that he had to correct his mistake and was rude to us for the rest of the meal… The hiring practices of this place need some adjusting, absolutely horrible experience… Food was just average.

This place is very average. I think almost every area is lacking, from the service to the quality of the food. I used to come here all the time and now I remember why I stopped coming. Not sure if I’ll give em another chance to win me over.

I eat here pretty much every Monday while at work. We call it in and someone else picks it up so this review is only in regards to the food. I think it’s good. I try something a little different each time and have not found anything I didn’t like except the spinach pie. I’m used to it having cheese in it but this did not. It wasn’t so bad I didn’t eat it but I’ve had better for sure. The reason I only gave 3 stars is it’s really expensive.

I can’t remember how many times I have been here. Multiple friend outings, dates, lunches with coworkers and take out orders. I’m almost sick of this place(not really). Their lamb grape leaves are amazing, I could take a bath in that garlic paste and don’t even get me started on the mango smoothie. The quality of food for the price is unbeatable and this is the best Mid East style I’ve had. I’m dating someone from Pakistan and he loves the food here. I live just down the street and will continue to be back for more!

My mom and I went here for some hummus and shawarma and we loved it! It’s a nice atmosphere and not at all what I expected. There bread was delicious and the waitress we had was great!

I’ve given this place numerous tries, but I’m done ordering from here for awhile. I’m sitting here right now with no dinner because they messed up my entire order. I ordered the chicken cream chop dinner. Get home and it’s a chicken cream chop sandwich. It is soggy with a sauce that doesn’t taste good at all. This isn’t the first screw up either. They’ve given the wrong soup, messed up sandwiches and sides before. Perhaps dining in would be better, or just check your entire order very thoroughly before leaving the parking lot. Too many strikes for me to forgive, will be finding somewhere else from now on.

This place is great! I have been going here every few months or so for the last several years, and always have a good experience. The food is always super tasty, and they have the best salad dressing of all the Lebanese restaurants I have ever been to!

Unfortunately the management at this restaurant is extremely petty and cheap. I ordered the cucumber yogurt with my kabobs and was unfortunately was given the garlic sauce. When I brought this to the attention of our waitress(who was great), she immediately went back to the kitchen to get the correct condiment. She promplty returned and told us that the kitchen will like the garlic sauce back before giving the yogurt!!! I was so shocked by this that I actually lost my appetite. The food is ok — definitely not amazing but not bad. I will not be returning because the management is so cheap. Lebanese grill is much better and not so petty over something so small as garlic sauce.

Pretty standard Arabic food like many other restaurants in the area. The thing that makes it a bit worse is the service. It seems like they are always understaffed. There is also one server that I’ve had a few times who is downright unfriendly and acts like he’d rather be anywhere else in the world. I’m not sure if it’s me, or if he’s like that to everyone. I get carryout from here once in a while and I’m always shocked at how expensive it is. It’s usually $ 40 easy for two entrees. That’s not a huge deal to me, but just kind of annoying. Food is very similar to Pita Café but the service is much worse. Only reason I go there vs. Pita Café is the convenience, and not having to deal with parking in downtown Birmingham.

Garlic, hummus, shwarma, mjadra are all good. I misordered last time and got $ 25 worth of food. You’d think that since it was just me, the waitress would have clarified but she didn’t. I didn’t reduce the stars because I don’t do that for service… but It was a bummer. Also there was a major argument between management and a waiter. It was in Arabic but from what I gathered the waiter wanted a table because he previously got a crummy tip but it wasn’t his turn. It was awkward to watch. I am deducting a star for this because it was so unprofessional. Not as good as Dearborn but it is ok if you are in the mood.
