French Canvas

I have been purchasing oversized heavy duty 2.5 inch stretched canvases from French Canvas for several years now. I live in California and these large canvases need shipping and packaging. I can tell you that the quality of the wood and the solid construction is excellent. I really mean excellent. At first (years ago) I experienced some frustration with the slowness of arrival of the product, however I took it upon myself to communicate with Rob via e-​mail, which is a format that he immediately answers and found him to be a wonderful man, very helpful, gracious and attentive to my concerns. One large order had a missing canvas, I communicated that to him, and he immediately took care of it. Regarding the slowness of orders, just take a minute, communicate via e-​mail about when you need something, Rob will address it. I like to find a solution to my concerns. E-​mail and communication is the solution in this case. I find that the quality of my canvases, secure and good packaging, the reasonable cost, the goodness of character of Rob makes it worthwhile to take a moment to communicate via e-​mail vs. phone calls. French canvas is the gold standard when it comes to stretcher bars and prestretch canvas for professional artists. The quality of the products is top notch and the customer service top grade. Rob, the owner, is always there to answer my questions. The products are delivered quickly. I have been a customer for years and will continue to be.

Customer Service is terrible and the owner is unprofessional. I gave them a piece of very important art and the owner, Rob, said he’d call me back that same day to give me the exact quote. He never called me back (luckily it was a smaller piece), so I decided to call him about 2 weeks into waiting (I wasn’t sure how long it’d take them to stretch the piece). I decided to call them and left a message. I did not get a return phone call until 10:30 PM, which I found very unprofessioanl. I asked if I could receive a discount considering there was no communication about my piece. He gave me a minimal discount (I think it was like 15%) – I feel that it should have been free of charge.

I just wanted to write a quick review and warn people about buying stretcher bars from this seller. Their product (at least what they sold me 2 years ago) is useless. All warped, miscut, bars won’t even fit each other.
I bought close to $ 500 worth of bars and threw them away, because shipping it back would cost about $ 180 and since their customer service is close to non-​existent I didn’t want to spend more and risk not getting anything back… Do yourself a favor, deal with local stores.

Quality of stretcher bars is awful, customer service is worse.
