Hidden Gem

Stopped into this place on the way back from Salisbury. The food was delicious and the Maryland crab soup is a must try! Very good and full of lump crab. The homemade chips are also really good. Our waiter was a nice young man who explained the menu to us and recommended some great options. Definitely worth the stop in especially if you’re passing through the area!

We suspect that Mark D. Is a friend of someone at the hidden gem.
My family and I stopped here for dinner, We arrived to a empty dining room. Our party of 7 ordered and waited 45 – 60 minutes for our food. Some of us did eat the food that came out. We sent back the soup that was too salty and the crab cakes (my order) were mushy and salty, Mostly like eating a mouth full of wet paper with salt and old bay on it. Over all we left hungry.
Also important to note that the bathroom was filthy.
When we complained the staff was apologetic and removed the returned food from the bill.

Food is good, but be aware that the background music is country and Fox News is always on.

Very good home cooked food. Great shrimp salad sandwich, pancakes, prime rib sandwich. Freshly prepared fried pickles! Looking forward to coming back — so glad Hidden Gem is open! Looking forward to stopping here as a stop on the way to the beach/​well worth the wait– and if we are in a rush, you can call ahead for take out.

Extremely slow. Whole carry out experience took nearly an hour. Twenty minutes after we ordered 2 Rubens they told us they didn’t have corned beef. Not sure why it took that long, as there was only 1 table in the dining room.
Chips were burned. Soup had a ton of crabmeat, but was completely overwhelmed by the taste of burnt sherry. Turkey Ruben was delicious, as was the Italian sub, but it’s doubtful we’ll go back.

Perfect name for a perfect little place. Debbie greeted me from the kitchen window as I was walking in. I am from the DC area, I literally turned around to see if she was talking to me:) She was. Food is sourced locally and homemade. The Reuben was delicious-​especially the homemade sauerkraut (who does that these days??). I highly suggest a stop here. We sat at the bar and loved it.

Great Italian subs. Food was fresh. Met the owner, who is super friendly. Worth the stop if you’re driving through on Route 50.

We came here for dinner on a Sunday evening after exploring around the area. We checked Unilocal for recommendations and were impressed by the reviews for this place. The high ratings are well deserved because we had a fantastic experience. Nothing beats a home cooked meal with a family feel. We’ll be coming back again and bringing friends!

Wonderful! Absolutely a «Hidden Gem.» Take the extra time to find this restaurant. You will be glad you did. Everything from the wonderful soup, the prime rib, seafood, and a delectable dessert, was done to perfection. We hope to be back if we travel to this area again!

Surprisingly, it did turn out to be a gem. I was a bit apprehensive as exterior did make the place a bit «hidden» and interior was dark for what was going to be a casual lunch. The proprietor was welcoming and the menu satisfied the old, young, carnivore and vegetarian in the group. Food was fresh, crab soup one of the best we’d had in the area, hamburger was delicious, and sandwiches as well. The veggie sandwich –can’t think of the name– alone is a good reason to return, but considering that everyone enjoyed their meal we have a few more reasons.

Found this gem of a restaurant tonight. Took my girlfriend for a bite and I must say it was not what I expected. The atmosphere was romantic and very relaxing. We ordered the recommendation of the owner which was the crab and spinach dip… the best crab dip I have ever had! I ordered the king cut prime rib with crab imperial, it was Cooked perfectly. So much crab meat! The Mac and cheese is to die for. My girlfriend ordered the hot roast beef platter with mashed potatoes, I had to taste! Just as my dinner it was amazing. After dinner we sat with the owner and another very nice couple and talked for an hour or so. The owner is very sweet and attentive. I have found my new favorite restuarant. By far!!!

Stopped in for dinner last night, this place is really a hidden gem. Very nice décor, quiet with nice music playing and great food at good prices. The owner seemed to be the only one there, but she took the time to stop by and chat. Definitely worth the side trip off of 50. Would go back again if in the area.

Horrible. Evidently they combined with Bella Pizzaria which is why we came there, but they’re obviously hurting for money. They were short staffed. The waitress was slower than slow and to top it off, would not take the Bella Pizzaria
coupon we just bought two days ago because they aren’t «technically» Bella Pizzaria. Even though they have the sign out front. Food was decent and the prices were moderate, but the coupon and the service makes it worth SKIPPING!

WOW! I found this «GEM» on Unilocal.It really is just off route 50…& Soooo worth the stop! We had sandwiches, HRB & Meatloaf… both outstanding! Topped it off w/​a brownie sundae… I am starting my food coma now. :) Plenty of lighter items on the menu… but life is short… eat the good stuff! They have plenty if it here! We will be back!

My fiancé and I stopped in for lunch before hitting the road. Great service and homestyle feel. We had the chicken salad and liked it so much we took some for the road. The broccoli salad was also very tasty!

Incredible food! Everything was fabulous! Best crab imperial I’ve ever had!!! Defiantly worth the stop. Only 1 minute off route 50. Will definitely go again.

I came across the Hidden Gem while looking for another restaurant and I’m glad I did. It’s name is just as it says, a «Hidden Gem.»
Ambiance: The décor wasn’t what I was expecting as it is a bit more intimate with the dark lighting than I would have normally dined with a friend. The pace of the meal was more a european style (i.e. giving time before each course to enjoy the plate, wine and conversation). Altogether I found the atmosphere very relaxing.
Drinks: Although they have a full bar I ordered the house Cabernet. I found it to be a good choice but since I was with a colleague who choose not to drink I can’t really comment beyond that regarding the Hidden Gem’s drink menu.
Food: For an appetizer we decided to give the owners recommendation of Fried Green Beans a try. They were pretty good, not something I would normally have ordered before a meal but tasty none the less. For dinner I ordered on the Surf-​N-​Turf, which came with large shrimp perfectly cooked and a seasoned steak, which was also quite good. For desert I settled on the Rice Pudding, which had a very creamy texture I haven’t had before but enjoyed.
Service: The owners and the help were all very nice and knowledgable of the menu. There was no shortage of advice regarding our selection or describing the particulars of how everything was cooked. When my steak came out a little over done and they had no qualm bringing me another. While we waited for our meal, dined and after we wonderful short conversations with the owners about the area. Definitely no complaints regarding service.
Overall: I throughly enjoyed my meal at Hidden Gem and if or when I’m in the area I’ll be sure to come back and try that homemade lasagna.

I went there on Mother’s Day and they had a special menu.
I ordered a Maryland crab soup, two crab cake dish, two filet with stuffed crab imperial. The sides are asparagus, mashed potato, green salad and cole slaw.
The food is great! Everything! I like the stuffed crab on the filet most. And the crab cake was also great!

The food was amazing, the cream of crab soup has SO MUCH crab. I had the blackened catfish, and it blew my mind. Everyone in our party was pleased with their entrée. However. They’re trying to cultivate a fine dining atmosphere, but they’re not quite there yet with their wait staff. I personally don’t like hearing «who ordered the soup» from the person I just ordered my soup from. Little things like that. But overall, a very positive dining experience.
