I’m not quite sure why there are so many unsavory reviews on Sam Hak. My boyfriend and i used to go here almost every Friday for date night because the prices were so good and the sushi was great for the prices. We got sashimi and we are both still fairly new to the just plain raw fish we usually get the rolls, and we were very pleased. The sushi chefs, as well as the waitress are always very friendly and welcoming. I would def recommend trying this place out! Super mellow atmosphere quiet good place to mellow out after a long week.

NEVERAGAIN. If I could give it a zero I would. I came here with my friends a while ago at their recommendation. It wasn’t so bad the first time around. Or so we thought… So we decided to go back and try it again. It was the worst food decision I’ve ever made. The sushi was definitely not fresh at all. It tasted like it was sitting in the back of a freezer or refrigerator. The baked lobster roll had no lobster in it. The taste of the mushrooms and onions in the baked lobster was overpowering. I felt like barfing as we tried to finish the food. The kicker was this: the salmon on one of my rainbow rolls had a ridiculously large bone in it. My boyfriend found a couple bones as well. Honestly, I should’ve sent it back when I found that bone. The prices aren’t so bad. Happy hour prices on rolls all day… But I’d rather spend the extra money and go to a place where the sushi’s fresher and completely bone-free.

I’ve been coming here for about 2 years. Cheap Korean sushi! Bcuz of their location they don’t get a lot of business the price is cheap so hurry and eat while its cheap and you wont be disappointed with the quality of the food.

i’ve known this place for about 25 years cause my friends parents owned it. since they sold it, the ownership changed a few more times. if you like sashimi then so somewhere else. its expensive with little shikedashi(side dishes). if you like a friendly waitress then go somewhere else. if you like fish casserole soup then go somewhere else. if you like sushi rolls then go somewhere else. only thing this place has good is hwe dup bap and alcohol. and you can’t go much wrong with alcohol. trust me only hwe dup bap is the only food that is edible in this place. saturday at 6:30 pm and this place is empty. that’s usually a sign.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years now. Their food is really good, and the service is always great. For their freshness and price, I give it 5 stars across the board.

Two words describe Sam Hak Sushi — NOTGOOD. Poor service, average-to-poor fish, high prices. With so many GREAT sushi places in Torrance/Gardena, why go here? Just don’t.

If the name of the restaurant isn’t obvious enough, this is a Korean owned Japanese restaurant. I was aching for a chirashi bowl so I ordered one and to my dismay, the fish were less than an average quality and here’s why: 3 pieces of tuna — looked somewhat discolored/gray and overly stringy/veiny 3 pieces of white fish — looked almost translucent! The fish itself was flavorless and did not compliment to the sushi rice 3 pieces of red snapper — had a strong and foul«dirt» taste to it. So awful I had to spit it back out 3 pieces of salmon — the best fish it offered, but rates average to other sushi restaurants. The temperature of the fish was a tad too cold too. The rest of the chirashi bowl came with 1 shrimp(ebi), 1 eel(unagi), and a stick of imitation crab. Since it was lunch, my chirashi bowl came with a salad, miso soup, and seasoned brocoli, all for $ 13. I spent way too much for cheap and low-quality sashimi. This is only a review of the chirashi bowl and if you do decide to visit this establishment, make sure you don’t order it(I wouldn’t dare order any of their sashimi either)!

I was planning on ordering an XL sushi/sashimi platter, but decided to ask about their live halibut. The waitress mentioned that she had a large halibut for $ 250. After a few seconds, I agreed. The halibut was very good. However, I do not feel like I received the entire halibut. Makes me wonder what happened to the rest of the fish? Did part of my halibut go to another table, as part of their sushi/sashimi combo? For $ 250, I expected a large platter of halibut with extra sides(and service, i.e., free stuff). We got some service, but nothing extraordinary. Mostly, salad type things and sea cucumber. I recall the days of free lobster sashimi, dynamites, grilled yellowtail collar, grilled pike, sweet shrimp, and uni. Man, I miss those days. After the halibut sashimi, we got our spicy fish soup. The soup had a clean after taste, but did have the punch(that thick taste) I was looking for in a maeuntang. Others in our party thought the soup was good. To each their own. At least the waitress gave us two orders of the soup. The meal was good, but not sure if it was worth $ 250, epecially considering the lack of service(free food sides).
