This place is a doosey, not sure if I want to come back. Honestly I have been here twice. My first visit was not bad. I ordered some Unagi roll and some lunch special. The fish was savory and the condiments that went along the dish where complemented each other. More over, the Unagi roll was delicious, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The Moriawase sashimi was great, the selection of fishes was fresh. The cut was not obnoxiously thick, but well portioned. They also gave a generous amount of rice. I was so pleased with my food and even remembered saying«I would love to come back here again !!!» Three weeks later, I came back and ordered a different dish. I ordered the sashimi combination. I was anticipating for another great turn out, but unfortunately that did not happen. Instead of getting fresh selection of sashimi, I had only a few, talking about 8 pieces and a roll that didn’t event taste halfway decent. The fish was chewy, huge sign that it was not fresh. The portion is a lot smaller and was not even worth the price I paid for. I was completely disappointed! I am sure that they have plenty of optional dishes. Some are probably great and some well not so great. However, to serve stale sashimi to customers, just leave a bad taste in my mouth. Product consistency would have been great for this place.

Great service, a lovely, calm atmosphere and delicious food. Try the Japanese beer Asahi!

I was so happy to find an authentic Japanese restaurant in the area. Many times there is too much fusion and restaurants straying away from true, good Japanese food. The service is great as well as the quality of the food. Black cod, oyakodon and the bento boxes are tasty and good proportions. I’m definitely adding this to my staple of go-to Japanese food restaurants.

Love this place. Come here every week. Love their salmon misoyaki, chicken Katsu. It’s relaxed. Nice waiters and staff. I will keep coming here as long as I live in this area. Fish is fresh and the place is very clean, easy parking.

Walked here for sushi lunch. Sushi bar was empty, and no wonder. This place was great when Ten was the Sushi chef. But not so good now. First, service is slow and awkward. It was a hot day, and I was quickly given a bowl of miso soup. I asked for ice water and a coke, I was thirsty. 10 minutes later they are serving me sushi but I still don’t have a water or coke. Nothing to drink except hot soup on a hot day. They are just clueless. The sushi was just OK. Actually the salmon was kinda bad. And I Love salmon. I ordered scallop sushi and instead I got a spicy scallop roll. Probably had to mask the fact that the scallop wasn’t fresh by chopping it up with mayo and hot sauce. The tuna and yellowtail were pretty good, but just made sloppy by the Korean owner who is not a sushi chef. Was a 10 with chef Ten. Now just a 2. They need to hire a proper sushi chef. The owner just doesn’t get it. Probably won’t be back. And I have been coming here for over 20 years. Sad.

Munched here last night with the family and since we have been coming here forever I thought it was time for a review. Now I grew up surrounded by Japanese culture and food so my standards are different for this type of establishment. I’ve also been to Japan so kinda know a thang or two. I find this place quite authentic. The staff speak and are Japanese and the food NOMNOM. The place is freaky casual as are Japanese locals so slippers, shorts and Ts which we wear round year here are ok anytime. The wait staff are casual as well which to me adds to the experience of the no stress atmosphere. I always order the sushi and sashimi which tastes great and a Sapporo. While my family half of which are Japanese stay with the dinners and Bento boxes. The Bento boxes are adorable by the way-as they should be. They always like their food. Service as mentioned is very casual and I was miffed that the server did not pour my beer in the glass last night but did pour my nephews-She had me pour my own which is considered poor form in Japanese culture. There was an issue with my sushi and I informed the staff who promptly took it off the bill. That was cool and appreciated. We spent 100 bucks for 6 people and took home food. Parking has never been hard to find but we do go early and I hear they even have a lot in back. Things that keep it 4 star for me-I just can’t deal with plastic cups, the unattractiveness, and hand written checks. Kozan’s is our go to family restaurant for authentic Japanese at least once a month.

I have been at Kozan ever since the recent grad opening. I would say that the restaurant has gotten better. Before the restaurant was rather dark and gloomy, but after the grand opening i was very pleased to see that the restaurant was brighter. they also had replaced the carpet and got rid of the big dividing wall. the restaurant instantly got larger. they set up more tables and it fit more people. When ever it was busy, the friendly kind waiters, kindly asked me to wait for like 10 – 15 minutes. the food comes out fast and hot. my favorite is the BBQ chicken and the salmon misoyaki with tempura. the tempura is go crispy and golden. The sushi is hands down the best in the south bay, maybe even California. a great place to take your family and friends. the waiters know you by name, the portions are huge, and best of all the quality of the food is unbeatable.

I haven’t tried anything but the nigiri and a couple of hand rolls here since I just tried it last night for the first time. However, I’m giving this place 5 stars because if anyone is looking for legit nigiri sushi– this is the spot and its open til 10 most days which is great. Give this place a try!

Been coming here 20+ years and they have never let me down. Hands down my favorite sushi/Japanese restaurant of all time. I would come here everyday if I could but for now it’s just my special treat.

When the restaurant was sold, the food, service was horrible. We stopped going there. A couple of years ago a friend mentioned that she really liked it. Hmmmmm, dare we? I don’t know what happened, but in the last couple of years, the food and service are back up to the same level it was many years ago. The tempura is crispy, the Hamachi kama is HUGE and cooked perfectly, and though the sashimi is not sushi grade, it is good. The prices are reasonable and completely worth the visit. It has again become my «go to» quick Japanese restaurant. Welcome back!

I’ve always passed by this place on my way to Kagura. Considering it’s my first time here, I’m pretty happy for the most part. When my family and I walked in, we were happily greeted instantly! Our waitress promptly seated us and took our drink and appetizer order. The appetizer we got was the edamame. It was perfectly salted and tasted really delicious. Shortly after, our miso soup came and I was really impressed with the flavoring of it. The miso soups I’ve had in the past were good, but a little more bland compared to Kozan’s. I definitely recommend it if you’re craving salt, although it’s not overly salty(which makes it perfect)! I ordered the katsudon with udon(Kozan Special) without onions. The katsudon was a little too salty for my tastebuds but overall it was still decent. When all of our entrees came out, everything was hot. That definitely made up for the semi-long wait. However, as I’m writing this review, my mom had to wait the longest time for her sushi(that just came like two seconds ago). This place is good for groups, so I would definitely recommend this place if you want to go out with some friends on a Thursday or Friday night!

Really good food and good prices. I like the atmosphere and the service was really polite and enjoyable. I very much enjoy coming here for lunch and look forward to coming again for dinner. The building was clean and plenty of parking in a safe area. Definitely would recommend this place again

The owners are extremely friendly, bilingual in Korean and Japanese, and the servers all speak Japanese and English! The tempura batter here is light and crispy, a phenomenal combination. The Sumo roll and Tiger Roll are AMAZING– thick cuts of fish, fresh vegetables, and large portions! Definitely worth your money– good service, great food, awesome restaurant.

My grandma treated the girls(my cousin, aunty, and me) to dinner here last night and it was my first time. I was surprised by the location – it’s REALLY hard to miss since I don’t think there’s a front entrance, only a back one in the parking lot. No sign either. We were welcomed and the service was fast. I ordered the BBQ chicken and it was tasty! It was just right for me since I wasn’t too hungry. Cute place with excellent service. We were told thank you for coming and it was a nice time.

Whenever I’m craving Japanese food and am visiting the South Bay, Kozan is my restaurant of choice. The Good: The food. Everything I’ve eaten at Kozan has been delicious. I typically will either the tuna sashimi or the chicken teriyaki and sashimi combination I’ve also had their shrimp tempura and tonkatsu as well. Their miso soup is also very good and not too salty like some places I’ve been too. The Bad: Service can be a little slow at times but I can’t say that I have had a really bad customer service experience at Kozan. The Ugly: The parking is a bit limited and a little hard to find(it’s in the back). Overall, if you’re looking for a Japanese restaurant to try in Torrance, I recommend giving Kozan a chance.
