Right across the street from the hospital. It’s a small, little hole on the wall. But, the food is delicious. We have ordered chicken chow mein, soups, and it’s all delicious. Highly recommend it

Restaurant is very small and across the street from UCLA Harbor. Within walking in, the place is very clean but was extremely hot. The temperature was just as warm as it was outside that day, which was about 90°. They had electric fans running and there was a guy sitting at one of the tables. I told him I wanted to order some food to go and he pointed to some menus. His attitude came off a little rude, but later after speaking with him a little more, I realized that’s just how he speaks. The sweet-and-sour wasn’t what I was expecting. Still tasty and not bad. Just not what I’m used to. The Mongolian was OK. In all honesty when I got home, I re-cooked it and added some green onions and a little oyster sauce. The egg flower soup it came with, was delicious Overall, the food was just alright. It kind of reminded me of fast food. Not so much gourmet. Not sure if I would return. Maybe others might like this kind of food. Not everyone has the same taste. Don’t rule this place out, based on my review

This review is mainly based on the kitchen. How this place received an «A» rating is crazy. Years ago, I used to order delivery. I recently went inside to order after many years and yuck! The kitchen is horrible!!! You will lose your appetite just looking at it, and the person helping out in the kitchen does not look clean. Luckily she isn’t cooking. Don’t think I’ll be back,

Never never will order food from here. Horrible service, tried ordering online and that’s a total joke, btw, by went to pick up the order, he gave he someone’s order saying it was mine, I kept telling him it wasn’t because I order 7 dishes and this was 3 dishes, but instead of fixing the confusion, and taking my order, he fought me and kept telling me to take the food, and get out, since he never got an online order even after I showed him my receipt and order confirmation number. Aiya!!! I left the food there since it wasn’t my food.

I love this restaurant. This shady little shack is the bomb dot com y’all. SERVICE: There’s very few workers there because the place is so small, but I find that nice. They’re all nice. When my mom orders the to go lunch special(which she does a lot), they’re quick and prompt. Food is always ready in 10 minutes. DECOR: It may look shady… Being that it’s a small shack and there’s a liquor store right next door… I don’t care, I just love their food. Yes, Fortune Bowl, I take you as you are! FOOD: Oh my goodness, I love their lunch specials. It’s so affordable and delicious. I’ve tried many different ones, but my favorite is the chicken with spicy garlic sauce. When ordering the lunch special, I’d go with their fried rice instead of steamed rice! And their hot and sour soup(omg) instead of their egg flower soup! Just because of preference. I also like how they don’t use MSG it’s clearly stated on their menus(or at least on the to go one). They also gave us extra soup sometimes because we order so often! OVERALL: This place offers amazing lunch specials. The workers are humble and nice. The place is shady af(BUT it adds personality ehh?). I love it! They do their chicken with spicy garlic sauce and hot and sour soup justice. Now I’ma end this review with a «ya feel?» … And you should be nodding your head and rushing over to order their lunch specials.

This restaurant is so awesome! I love the walnut shrimp, it is sooo sweeeet(my favorite dish). Their food is of high quality because they only use chicken breast and Australian beef. The little boy who works their is the owner’s son and he absolutely adorable.

Horrible. Chow mein was horrible, undercooked chicken. And a little pricey for a «HOLE» in the wall.

We’ve been eating at this restaurant for the 8 – 9 years. My husband and I have only had the two house specials; Chow mein(chicken, beef and shrimp) and the Fried Rice(with shrimp). Its delicious. We have never had a bad experience.

Had a craving for Chinese food one night but all the Chinese restaurants on Carson Street close at 10 pm, then I saw this place. Looked a little run down from the street, which should have been a warning sign, but I had to have fried rice and chow mein that night. As I pulled up to the drive thru, the order clerk walked up to the window wearing a dirty white apron and picking his teeth with a toothpick, needless to say, I had no Chinese or Japanese food that night.

I’ve had enough awkward drive-thru exchanges where I accidentally order the 16 year old Cambodian busboy instead of the teriyaki chicken, that I’ve learned to just stick with getting out of my car for take-out. From start to finish, I can say that my entire experience at Fortune Bowl was unequivocally awkward. I didn’t expect much of a crowd when I walked into the shack on a weekday afternoon; sure enough, the place was empty. Looking to order take-out, I walked up to the counter instead of taking a seat. I don’t know how to explain it, but I felt like I was on the wrong side of the counter. I had styrofoam containers and plastic bags at arm’s length and there was nothing that felt welcoming about it. I grabbed a menu and quickly glanced at it, deciding to place an order for the teriyaki chicken. The employee was quick to point out that I was looking at the lunch portion of the menu. I tried to convey the fact that I wanted to order one of their lunch specials(that included lunch-sized portion and sides) but at a dinner price. After a awkward, confusing and heated exchange, we thought we understood each other. A few minutes later, I was presented with a packaged teriyaki chicken dinner entrée worth $ 11(that could easily be shared between 2 – 3 people). I went home and tried console my beaten spirit with a giant heap of teriyaki chicken and rice. I’ll save you the details, but it didn’t work out so well.

I wanted to come here one day ever since I noticed the place(What the heck kind of place is this, did I do a time warp to 1950? In another country?). I went, I sat, I ate. Decent seating area was a surprise, cozy and clean, cool! Staff was super friendly in their own way but not overbearing, nice balance I thought(Did I let that sway my opinion of the food? No, I don’t’ think so I say with a straight face. The food I had was good enough to earn 4 stars IMHO). I got the Beef with Oyster Sauce with rice on the side. Positive: Tender beef! Negative: Some tough bamboo shoots. Positive: No salty taste. Nice taste. Negative: Rice a bit dried out. Positive: The volume. Negative: …I’m stuffed? No, no, stuffed is good, focus…, focus… The rice came on a large ashtray. Ha ha ha …(I sneak in couple of pictures while staff is away for few seconds. I didn’t’ intend to take pics at all but I had to). Did they hate me? The ashtray is free of tar stains so nothing personal I guess, probably got them because of a great deal on them, or on purpose, I don’t know. I’ll ask next time. Yes! There will be a next time for me. This was like crashing someone’s house, intimate and welcomed.

I stumbled on this place just by chance; it is a tiny take-out Chinese, but I was surprised to find there was room for perhaps five tables inside for dining. It is built like a tiny house, and could be easily missed driving past. However, I decided to stay and have lunch there, and found the prices very reasonable. Monday — Friday, most lunches are $ 4.95 to $ 5.95, and come with soup and Won Ton strips and sweet sour sauce. The servings are large, and you will likely be taking some home for dinner. Best of all, the quality is excellent! So many small Chinese places are folding due to the expansion of the huge steam table type of restaurants; I am glad to see this place survive. The quality of the food is far better than the huge all-you-can eat type of places, and is a great bargain as well. The ambiance is plain, and they usually have Chinese TV playing, so it is nothing elegant on that front, but the fo0od is excellent. And, as it is primarily a take out, the mood and décor are really not an issue. Good Chinese food, very reasonably priced.
