We finally tried Eckhard’s after so many recommendations and we were less than impressed with the food. The soup of the day was potato and Smithfield ham and is prepared in the style of the British Isles in a food processor but tasted good. We had the prime rib special which was large and served medium as requested with a delicious horseradish garnish but the meat itself was just OK. no great flavor for 37.95 with a small side salad. Our other entrée was the Sockeye salmon with a Bernaise sauce and it was described as the best salmon ever tasted… well it was pretty bland and the sauce matched. Maybe that was how it is served but for a piece of salmon and a small salad for 27.95 I would expect a bit of a wow factor. The two small sides of green beans and mashed potatoes were OK and meant to be shared. We tried an ice cream ball Ron chocolate sauce rolled in coconut and nuts was again just OK. The ice cream itself was not flavorful and the toppings again just so so. I think we should have tried the German dishes. It just didn’t taste like a 82.00 dinner should taste. It was all just OK for our less than gourmet taste buds.

One of my favorites on the Middle Peninsula for several years. Great German food. Weiner Schnitzel was as good as any I had in Austria. I don’t recall ever having any Italian food there because good German food is what I crave when I so to Eckhards. I’ve always gotten good service, even when the place is busy, which is not unusual.

Very nice place(little on the noisy side) staff was well trained and our waiter was great. 3 of us had German food and one had an Italian dish. Must say my sauerbraten was great in a brown raised sauce. The chicken dish with capers was also done well. The other two German dishes were raved about. All around a good place to eat and very clean.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but the experience was fantastic! Excellent service, equally good food! The décor is somewhat«interesting», but once you get your food, who cares? Yum!

We’ve eaten here twice and plan to go again. I like food that is fresh and well prepared, and that’s what we got here. Everyone was pleased and our service was great, too. The chef made a special cobbler last summer and we’re hoping gets the fresh blackberries to make it again this year! Great experience all around.

The service was great once we actually got our food but the food was tasteless. I ordered the shrimp and crab alfredo. The seafood was overcooked and the pasta had no taste. I had to add a lot of pepper to my food to eat it. For the price, i would have preferred to go to olive garden ir even fazzolis. I will not be returning unless it’s the only sit down restaurant open in the area we are in… that’s how we ended up there this time.

We enjoyed this place so much that we decided to eat there two nights in a row! The service staff was delightful and the food was a plate of homemade awesomeness.

My biggest regret of this meal is that I’d made up my mind to have one dish before I even got to the restaurant. I’d never had Weiner Schnitzel in my life and decided to try it. It was fine, but fried meat is fried meat. This was done well, lightly pan fried and not too heavy. The veal was moist and tender and the breading crisp and light. The German red cabbage paired very nicely with it. I have come to adore German red cabbage and was pleased that this one met my expectations. I should have had one of the two specials that caught my eye. All my fault. My father had a pork shank special that was amazing. My mother had the Baked Manicotti Elizabeth and reported it was excellent. My wife had the Chicken Saltimbocca. Both of us love prosciutto, so this dish was highly anticipated. It didn’t let her down. The chicken was perfectly cooked and all the flavors worked well together. The house cabernet sauvignon is a bit fruity and frothy without the tannic backbone I expect from a cab. It could be just about any red wine they wanted to call it. This was the only disappointment to the meal other than me ordering the wrong thing. I can’t tell you if they do German food well because I’ve not had much of it in my life for comparison. The red cabbage is great, for what that’s worth, and I enjoyed my meal immensely. I can tell you that they do Italian food quite well based on what I saw and sampled tonight.

My family and I and a few friends came here for dinner based on several recommendations from other friends. Maybe it was just an off night for the server and kitchen but both were not on par with the recommendations. The male server was awful. Every time he would come to our table(which was not enough to even keep our glasses full) he would sigh or glare at anyone who dared to ask something about the menu or ask for something extra. The food, unfortunately, was no better. My dish, the sausage sampler, was disgusting. The sausages were dry and honestly tasted rancid and I know real German food. My husband and our friend both got the seafood alfredo and said the few seafood items in the pasta were very overcooked and the sauce was a congealed mess. Personally after our experience I would never be back but if you do decide to go I would offer two pieces of advice, first is to stick with the steaks(which looked mouth watering and amazing) and try and get one of the female waitresses(who actually looked like they enjoyed their job).

Dinner last night with a party of 6. Place was packed at 7 pm but we had a reservation and went directly to our table. Split a couple of bottles of wine. Nice selection with reasonable prices. Menu offered German, Italian and American entrees. Appetizers were excellent(Artichoke hearts and mussels). Salads were simple but fresh. German dishes were disappointing, but beef, roast duck and fish were excellent. Would definitely recommend and return ourselves.

Excellent filet of beef. Cooked perfectly. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy… just the way I like them. Dessert was a special banana brûlée…to die for. It was a very busy night here. Next week they close for vacation… well deserved! Delightful presentation and excellent service. I love this place.

Look forward to a return trip to this little gem of a restaurant. Softshell crab special was delicious, weiner schnitzel and all variations were very tasty, alfredo sauce was really good. Service was excellent, lots of attention to detail.

Our favorite dinner spot. The house creamy dill salad dressing is fantastic and addictive. All the seafood is fresh and delicious. The best oysters rockafeller we have eaten.

This has to be the busiest place in Topping. Our waitress Beth was wonderful. But not as good as the wild mushroom soup or the fried green tomatoes! My husband had the prime rib and the bite I had was wonderful. I tried their special of the night which was chicken schnitzel– it was out of this world! I had never had anything like it. This place has huge portions we brought home dessert because we did not want to leave without trying the apple turnover. YUMMY!!!
