Last month we went to visit my girlfriend’s Grandfather who lives in Toms River, NJ. Prior to this trip, I had never heard of Toms River. A simple Google Map search told me that it was the township next to Seaside Heights. I immediately became intrigued at the thought of possibly meeting The Situation. Originally I figured we would just stay on the water. I mean, it didn’t look that bad on MTV. Well, after some Tripadvisor searching, I realized that every hotel in Seaside is most likely a den for soliciting drugs and prostitutes. So much for that idea… The only hotel available at the time near Toms River was the TR Hotel. I booked through the AAA site and the nightly rate was very reasonable, $ 137.10 before tax and fees. When we arrived, we were told that they only had room for us for 2 nights(out of 3) and that we could take a smoking room on the third night if nobody canceled. The girl at the front desk was very nice about it, and said we could cancel the 3rd night with no penalty if we wanted to stay at another hotel(which we did). The hotel itself was similar to a Holiday Inn. No frills — but at the same time — not dirty or sketchy like a cheaper place. Plenty of parking. There is also a restaurant on site that we did not try. The room was nicer than I expected it to be. We ended up spending our last night in Atlantic City at the Sheraton. Make sure you get breakfast and/or lunch at Shut Up & Eat in Toms River.

Attended a wedding here. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere the only complaint was the food. My main entrée was chicken and it was completely dry. The cocktail hour was disappointing. Most of the food was frozen that you can just pop into a microwave. When you go to a wedding you expect good food. Other then that it was good

The hotel is well appointed and very clean for the price. This location used to be a Holiday Inn and delivers the expectations you would expect at one. I booked through priceline express deals and it was a very good deal compared to other places in the area.

Pleasantly surprised by the TR. A hoard of us descended on the TR for an 80th birthday party/family reunion. The hotel was clean, the staff great, especially the manager, food wonderful. Only minus: no lit sign so it’s hard to find at night.

wanted to stay at the clarion as we have always had good experiences there, but it was booked up bc of an event. this place was not as nice and kind of run down, no refrigerators in the rooms, stained carpets, super humid, broken elevator, key cards don’t work, and so many other things. for example, they took our towels one day and didn’t replace them. it then took way too long for house keeping to bring us some. another night the exact same thing happened with the crib sheet. the weirdest thing was that they charged my credit card like 12 hours before we even checked in(i got an email from my credit card company). when i confronted them about this and explained that i wanted to use a different credit card than the one i made the reservation with, they outright denied that they had already charged me. i had to show the front desk lady the credit card email before she would even look it up in the computer. also, we had called the day before to tell them we were arriving late and wanted to make sure the crib would be ready in the room. surprise surprise… no crib. and we had to wait almost an hour to get one. i have learned my lesson and will now make sure i book at the clarion way in advance.

The Holiday Inn is now the Toms River Hotel or the«TR» Hotel. Rooms are clean and the grounds are well maintained. They do a good job as a venue for weddings and events, but the food isn’t that great.
