Good food, and choices. I had my standard breakfast. 3 eggs over medium, bacon, potatoes, and toast. It was good and so was the service.

German pancakes. Get them. Ignore how bad for you they are and savor it.

This place gets lost in the mix amongst the restaurants/food places around the Westgate area. Place serves great breakfast and lunch. Wait staff is very friendly and hardworking. Ambience of The Original Pancake house is excellent. Well lit, neat décor of an old fashioned breakfast place. Food comes out quickly and is cooked right. Put the trendy, overrated, fast casual restaurants to the side and grab a quality meal at this place.

It had been years since I had been in this restaurant so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The staff seemed nice enough, and the restaurant was clean and inviting. I ordered an omelette and have to say it was nothing to write home about. I only ate about 25% of it, and left the rest. My friend ordered potato pancakes. A plate of 3SMALL potato pancakes came out, and let’s just say for what they charged for them, it was NOT worth the money. I’m sure some of the other food is good(pancakes?), but for the price of the food, I won’t be going back.

I’m amazed with this cute dinner! My little sister and I loved the German pancakes! I’m not a bacon fan but I couldn’t get enough of it here! I was deciding on going here or Uncle John’s Pancake House and I’m SO glad I didn’t!!! I can’t wait to visit again!(The service was super fast)

Growing up in Toledo, this was always one of my favorite breakfast places to frequent. The service is decent but the food is great. I’ve been to two other locations in other states(Dallas, TX and Honolulu, HI). I’ve always enjoyed the omelettes, and other breakfast staples. My favorite entrée here is the Apple Pancake. No matter which location I go to I always order it. It is amazing. The Original Pancake House will always be on my list of go to breakfast spots no matter where I am.

I don’t like going out for breakfast often. However, I was visiting my friend and she said we had to go here because food is great. Besides the coffee tasting like typical diner coffee, the actual food was really good. I got the corned beef and hash omelette– not the kind of breakfast I get often. It reminded me a little of cornish pasty’s(not what you think) and was delicious. I warn you though their omelettes are huge and probably aren’t going to finish it in one sitting unless your the Man Vs. Food guy. Each of the omelettes come with buttermilk pancakes which were also delicious. If I somehow end up in toledo again I’d probably go to The Original Pancake House again.

Easily the best place to get pancakes in Toledo. They are homemade. They have a huge variety of pancakes ranging from classics to their own special twists. Their classic buttermilk pancakes are simply perfect and easy on the tummy. I really liked their buckwheat pancakes and the vegetarian sampler. I’m not a coffee drinker, but theirs is good. The décor is very homey, but for some reason, it gives off an air of sophistication. Even though dress is casual as though you’re lounging at home, it makes me feel like I should dress a bit more nicely. haha The staff is also very nice, and something I noticed right away. Definitely the place for pancakes.

This is my go to for breakfast. I keep it simple, 2 eggs 2 pancakes, bacon. Pancakes are awesome. My friend gets the eggs Benedict every time, she loves them. I’ve seen the german pancake a bunch of times there, but I don’t have the guts to order it lol. I like what I get. You can order your eggs normal, or well done as well. Pancakes are delicious I must say, like they a re made to order. I recommend this place for breakfast over your normal chain spots.

The noise level at The Original Pancake House is extremely annoying… every sound is echoing off the terrazzo floor. The décor is in need of a serious upgrade. They take kitsch seriously. Our worn out waitress should be put out to pasture(could it be she is family and there is nothing they can do?). Her job is to wait on the customer not have us wait and wait and wait for her. Hint: when delivering pancakes bring the syrup at the same time. My German pancake was good, the corned beef hash with three pancakes was good. The coffee is acceptable. Should you have the misfortune to have the worn out waitress and desire more coffee, you will find the coffee station across from the hostess stand(help yourself. I wish I had). The restaurant was very busy with large family groups. There were lots of happy customers. I wish I had been a happy customer.

I just went to breakfast with my mom at the Original Pancake House in Toledo. I grew up in Toledo, and return a couple times a year. This was the first time I’ve been to the Original Pancake House in probably 35 years. The food was ok; my mom and I both had crepes. The service was prompt, and the restaurant was comfortable. One odd thing, and the reason for my low review. My mom asked for the senior discount as she is elderly(as, it appears, are most of the patrons). They told her they did indeed have a senior discount, but it was only available for people paying cash. What’s that about? This isn’t the 1980s; nobody pays cash for their meals. Needless to say, she’s done with this establishment.

Decent food at a reasonable price. During my visit the service was fairly slow from what appeared to be poor management. But the pot roast omelette was exceptionally tasty.

If you want a yummy top notch breakfast in Toledo this is it! I’ve been coming here since I was a child and now my son loves it too! Service has for sure improved over the years, wonderful coffee. 49ers and chocolate chip pancakes [BACON} are tops on our list.

Despite living in Toledo for the first 23 years of my life, I had never been to this place until last weekend.(I didn’t get out much as a teenager, and when I did, I went to the Denny’s in Rossford, where I could smoke inside.) Another brunch place crapped out on my friends and I, so somebody suggested this place. They made the right choice. The service was quick as hell, despite it being rush time at 11 a.m. on a Saturday morning. And the food was amazing. I got the stuffed corned-beef-hash omelette thing that left me stuffed for nearly the next 24 hours. And the chocolate-chip pancakes were to die for. I really hope to go here again at some point in the next 23 years.

UPDATEDREVIEW2÷23÷2014 I’ve been meaning to update this for awhile. My review is long, but I guarantee you it is worth reading. I’ve knocked TOPH from 3 stars all the way down to 1 star. Food here is worth a middle of the road rating. I recently discovered their corned beef hash I loved so much is canned Hormel corned beef hash. I finally spotted the Hormel logo right on the menu. What a joke. It’s like they’re proud of using processed foods and are cocky enough to throw it in your face. This is not the reason I am giving them one star. The main reason is that their ice water smells terrible, as if it were rotting. The only way this happens is because they do not clean their ice machines. What you’re smelling is bacteria in the form of green slime that is growing in their ice machine. I worked in the food industry and watch enough restaurant remodel shows to know this as fact without actually seeing their machine. This is disgusting and unacceptable. I certainly consider myself a regular here, or a least, I was. The following is my other reasoning for dropping this dump down to 1 lowly star… At my most recent visit with my family, a party of 6, my girlfriend’s order was somehow missed. Usually, this is the kitchen’s fault, but I feel like it was our grumpy waiter’s fault this time. He said nothing about anything being missing after delivering everyone else’s food. He did not come by for refills. We had to flag him down 5 minutes after food was finally brought to alert him to the missing meal, which was like pulling teeth. He offered no apology and said that he was waiting for the food and it should be «up in a minute.» He then disappeared for approximately 15 minutes and finally reemerged with the food, which was burnt and inedible. We requested my girlfriend’s food be taken off the bill, as everyone else in our party had already finished their meals, and the quality of the late order was unacceptable. He knew it too, mumbling something to another waitress, right in front of us before walking away. Still no apology. I had to stop elsewhere with my girlfriend after we left to get her real, edible food. Another irritating thing about this place is the careless management. Whenever there is a problem, they are nowhere to be found. They seem to have assigned themselves front of house duties and they literally remain at the hostess stand and cash register. As I said, I have certainly become a regular here. You would think they would have bothered to know myself and my family by first name now, but nope. Walking out of TOPH, one of the managers will say«goodbye, thanks for coming, please come again soon,» literally 3 or 4 times as you walk by her. If they truly cared, they would learn my name and face, but with the attitude they have, you’re just another head walking through who stupidly gives them money. They have lost a pretty loyal customer in me. I will never return and I’ll be shopping around for another post-church breakfast haven. ORIGINALREVIEW7÷23÷2013 An obvious choice for a breakfast after church. There is usually quite a wait on Sunday, but the wait is usually worthwhile. If they’re super busy, you can expect to wait awhile after you place your order. Every so often, wait times for food can get out of hand, or even creep into the unacceptable range, as in 45 minutes for a couple eggs and pancakes. You never really know which card you’re gonna draw when you walk in. Their famous German pancakes are very large can take extremely long to make. That’s probably the main reason for the hold up, but they’re popular, so if there are 10 simultaneous orders, the whole restaurant suffers. One nice thing about TOPC is that they bring your whole party glasses of water by default, which is nice. If they are super super busy — and you can usually tell when that is — the wait staff is usually overwhelmed and spread thin, so coffee cups can go empty for longer than you’d like them to. At over $ 2.50 for a cup of coffee at a diner-ish place, I find this to be incredibly annoying, especially since this is my post-chuch ritual and usually my first coffee of the day on Sunday. I needs mah coffeez. Every breakfast entrée comes with a stack of three pancakes, so it could easily be split between two people. My favorite is the corned beef hash with eggs and wheat germ pancakes. Most dishes are under $ 10, but can spike quickly. For example, the corned beef hash is about $ 8.50, plus $ 1 to «upgrade» to wheat germ, blueberry, chocolate chip, etc., plus $ 2.50 for coffee, plus a tip when it’s all said and done. If you’re not careful, an individual bill can hit $ 15 I really don’t ever feel like I get $ 15 worth of food, especially for breakfast. The Original Pancake House is technically a chain, but it definitely gives off more of a ‘mom’s kitchen’ feel than your average breakfast joint. I’ll give 3 stars, because I usually leave happy and full.

I don’t claim to be an expert in French cuisine, but I’ll tell you what, I thought the crepes at TOPH were actually pretty good! Specifically, the strawberry fruit crepes(brown and crispy around the edges, stuffed with warm cottage cheese, topped with fresh strawberries, with sauce served on the side), were delicious. Don’t get me wrong, the crepes here aren’t going to give you delusions that you’re dining at Petunia’s in the French quarter,(which, sadly, was never the same after Katrina), but I’ll bet you’ll enjoy them! The Santa Fe omelet was also excellent, even when made with EggBeaters. It was big and cooked perfectly. You get a four egg(or the no-fat equivalent) omelet and three 5 inch pancakes.(Those pancakes fed my son and ¼th of the omlete fed my daughter… no need for a kid’s meals). The spinach omelet was equally good. Of course, they are known for their German pancakes!

I really enjoy coming here. The food is typically really great. However, if the place is busy the food takes a hit. I would recommend splitting something if you aren’t terribly hungry. Most of the meals come with three pancakes and I think that it’s just far too much food for breakfast. I would never recommend getting coffee here. I’ve given it far too many chances and it always disappoints. It’s way too strong and far too bitter. Additionally, the wait staff is slow to refill so it’s not worth the money.

Our first stop on a recent trip from Detroit to Cleveland was a stop at the Original Pancake House. Although there are a few of these in Michigan I’d never been to one. The hostess was the sweetest lady and I’d eat there again if if the food wasn’t good(it was). It had a homey Cracker Barrel kind of feel to it. Everything on the breakfast menu comes with 3 small pancakes. Four huge meals(really enough to feed 5 or 6) of pancakes, omelets, corned beef and hash, eggs and toast and we were all satisfied and energized for the day. Oh, and there’s a small gift shop area that sells coffee mugs and other little trinkets if that’s your thing.

Yay! It’s open on Labor Day! Came here with a gal pal of mine and ordered: Dutch baby — we added the German Royal which is a plate of fresh strawberries and bananas with a side of powdered sugar, lemon juice, and strawberry syrup. looked like food out of a commercial. Yums! Apple Pancake– I have never seen anything like this before… like a crater filled with baked apples that aren’t too sweet and aren’t too syrup-y. People here were so nice. customers and staff alike. I guess they how they do it here in Toledo. :) Pleasantly surprised by the portions and by great service from our waiter, Andy!
