It seriously breaks my heart that this place is closed. My fiancé is going to be so bummed. This was one of our favorite spots for a simple little lunch date. Everything was delicious, affordable and authentic. The service — and this makes the closing of the restaurant even more sad — was always kind, welcoming and gracious. Kills me that a mother/son venture like this — one with heart and genuinely good food — closes down while places like Applebee’s & Chili’s thrive. For what it’s worth, we are grateful for the wonderful food and memories this spot provided us — and we hope the owners thrive in the next steps of their journey.

NO! I drove by for lunch today and they are no longer in business! Where will I get chorizo anywhere near that good? Not at Tacqueria Autentica Michoacan. Good food, but chorizo was not as good. Dang it! Another great restaurant down the tubes!

Get the Parmesan encrusted sol. I think it’s the best fish I have ever eaten! I look forward to all my trips to Toledo, so I can eat here! The atmosphere of the restaurant is great! Perfect for lunch or dinner!

My brother took me here after the autoshow last week and I got 3 tacos(pollo) very simplistic includes: cilantro and onion and marinated chicken. Very Good, I highly recommend.

Best mexican food I’ve ever had. The server was very personable and we had our food within 15 minutes of ordering. The guacamole is fresh and home made, and the flour tortilla shells and barbacoa were awesome. Don’t forget to try the chocolate cake… made from scratch every day!

Based on the reviews, I had high expectations. The little diner was quite at 11:30 with just one other table occupied. The menu was lacking any plated dish like a chicken breast or steak. It was only tacos, burritos, nachos, ect… The salsa was bland and the spicier version had some flavor but again nothing special. The chips came out of a bag and we’re not even the traditional style. My tacos 2/chorizo and 2/al pastor left much to the imagination. Not very much meat, onions, or cilantro? If I didn’t know better, I’d say this place will be closed in the next few months. Is Mexican food that hard to find in this town? The ratings must be from friends and family.

Don’t let outward appearance fool you. Best Mexican food this far north. You can taste the passion in the salsa and realistically sized portions. Try the tacos al pastor. Best al pastor I’ve very eaten(and I lived in South Texas for 12 years). Place is very clean and service was incredibly good. I will keep visiting as often a I can. I seriously doubt that these guys will be in the same restaurant location for very long.

Small place, no frills but amazing food. We got the chicken tacos on corn shells. Delish. My husband got a tamale as well. Best he has ever eaten. Authenic and exactly what we were hungry for. It was 11:30 on a Sunday and the place was packed. Thats always a good sign. We will be back. Very friendly staff as well.

This place has wonderful food. The owner’s son is super friendly and provides amazing service each time we’ve gone in there. My favorite dish is the Huevos Con Chorizo. Can’t wait to go back!

Great little diner-type Mexican restaurant in downtown Toledo. The service is friendly, everything is made fast and fresh, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I tried one of each of their tacos wrapped in a corn tortilla on this visit: spicy pork, chicken, carne asada, and chorizo. Every one of the decent-sized tacos were delicious as hell with just the right amount of spiciness. On the side I had some of their spicy green hot sauce for topping… delicious! La Chachanilla is a great little place to stop for lunch that’s worth going out of the way for.

I’m a Mexican from California. My family is as Mexican as it gets. So, naturally, I love quality Mexican food. I have struggled to really introduce my boyfriend to what good Mexican food is because he is used to restaurants like Taco Bell and El Vaquero. I used to yearn for good Mexican food that was like home while being here but I haven’t gotten that. This food was watered down Mexican food. And I hate to be biased because, let’s face it, nothing is going to taste like home and that’s a tough pill to swallow when you’re homesick. The food wasn’t entirely bad I just had high expectations because of Unilocal lol. The chile relleno was the best thing I had. I had a pork tamale, sope, taco de al pastor & a chile relleno. So ¼, I liked. Won’t go back here but that’s only because I liked the taqueria down the street better. Oh, and I’m on a mission to find this damn taco truck everyone keeps talking about.

Found this place based off of Unilocal.Had a craving for tacos, decided to give another place an opportunity to wow me. But, that wasn’t the case. I got tacos(Carne Asada), and an enchilada to try. The Carne Asada wasn’t as juicy as I’m used to with the other taco places here. That kinda ruined it for me. The enchilada was ok, a little on the bland side. The food was ok, not bad. Service was nice though.

Really great staff. Clean place. Amazing steak taco. The chicken taco was fine, as was the chorizo, though it was a bit salty. I would go back. A nice place to stop after going to the art museum.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that La Cachanilla just reset my expectations for quality Mexican fare. My wife and I came here for lunch and loved everything we tried: quesadilla, taco, tamale, and burrito. The Spanish rice and refried beans are even a step above any others I’ve had. The family atmosphere and super-friendly staff add to the authentic vibe. Both employees we talked to were son and daughter of the cook, and grew up on the same food. Added bonus: I found another patron’s keys in the parking lot and handed them to her. No big deal, but the waiter saw this and bought me a slice of cake! So nice, and ridiculously good.

Short version: It’s definitely a worthy competitor to that taqueria across the street. I’ll be back. I came here with two co-workers for lunch. The free chips and salsa were fresh, and the chips had a definite flavor of lime, which was unexpected and delicious. I ordered three tacos with corn tortillas: tripas(tripe), al pastor(pork), and chorizo(sausage). Our server asked if I wanted egg with my chorizo. Yes, please! I also ordered a pork tamale, since I saw that the restaurant touts itself as a tamaleria. I was disappointed to see no lengua(tongue) or pescado(fish), as those are my favorite taco meats.(I was disappointed when their downtown competitor got rid of fish tacos, as well.) No fancy tacos here: no avocado, cheese, or sour cream, although the menu said that extra sides were 50 cents each. Each of my tacos had meat, cilantro, and onion. No salsa verde to be had, either, although I didn’t ask our server about it. The al pastor was flavorful and sweet; the tripas was crunchy and spicy; the chorizo had a pleasant kick, and the egg was a wonderful addition to that. The tamale was super moist, and served already removed from its husk. One of my lunch companions got the chicken quesadilla with veggies — it was smaller than ones you can get across the street, but she said it was delicious and full of flavor. Given a choice between packing into that taqueria across the street and coming here, I think I’ll choose here from now on.

This is my favorite place in Toledo to get straight up tacos. Housed in the old high level Café across from once go-to but now sunken-quality San Marcos, La Cachanilla in its entirety is basically some cool dude as the«servers» and his grandma as the«kitchen staff.» And they crush it. Excellently prepared carne asada. Fresh guac made to order bangs. The chile relleno is probably the best one in the area. Everything I’ve ever gotten there I want to get again. Try the al pastor taco with eggs. The only wrong-doing that’s ever befallen me there is they once accidentally made me a large guacamole instead of a small. C’mon gra’ma.

How nice is your staff? SONICE! How good is your food? SOGOOD! La Cachanilla is the perfect spot for people who don’t want to choose and want to try everything. Your inexpensive menu permits that. Added bonus: former location of the High Level Café adds to the atmosphere. I love the idea of a Latin American diner. This seals the deal… and it’s glorious. If you started making pupusas and huaraches, I’d die. I’d DIEEEEE of happiness. Keep up the good work :)

Came back to La Cachanilla on my Christmas vacation home to visit my Mom. Brought my older brother this time — he ordered 3 barbacoa flour tacos and said they were hands– down the best he had ever had. I ordered one chorizo corn taco and one al pastor corn taco — absolutely delicious! We ordered guacamole and chips — I cannot get enough of their guacamole. Freshly made, big chunks of avocado with just the right kick. Love, love, love this place! I’ll be back the next time I’m in town!

I have eaten at thousands of Mexican restaurants all over Mexico and the US. There are very few that really impress me. But this place is something really special. Here’s the bad and the good: Chips and Salsa. Mediocre out of the bag chips. They really need to make these in house from scratch. House salsa is good but not special. The«hotter» salsa that we were offered was delicious and much more interesting. The interior is pure 1950s diner with Mexican touches and decorating. Cute and comfortable in a very simple and unassuming basis. Now to the food. The chili relleno was as good as any I’ve had. Pastor was spectacular. Carne Asada was the best I’ve ever had anywhere. I had a shredded beef tostada which was delicious. My wife had a sope, equally awesome. Finished off with a piece of the homemade tres leches strawberry cake which was also unique and fantastic. The place is operated by a mom and her son. We asked about it, and they said that they have been open a year, and lived in Toledo for 15 years. They prepare everything fresh every day(and sometimes run out of things, particularly tamales because of that) and take the leftover food home at the end of the night, and start over from scratch the next morning. If you like simple, fresh, delicious and inexpensive mexican food in a friendly place, you have to try this restaurant. I will never pass through Toledo again without stopping here.
