The 3 stars are for the spinach kale pie that I had that was wonderful. Warm, tasty and bursting with flavor. The service was definitely lackluster. The man behind the bar wasn’t very friendly. They had some 90’s techno music playing while videos of said music were projected on to a brick wall. Very different. Beer was ok.

Best savory pies — hands down. The Ol’ Codger bitter beer is delicious as well. All the pies are worth trying. I prefer the Steak and Ale pie with the chutney with a side of peas.

I have to give this brewery 5 stars! We didn’t eat or drink much, we had 2 beers and both were very flavorful and tasty! I had Bee’s Knees, hoppy, thick, perfect. We also had bread and jam. Omg. Their bread is to die for! Dish comes with 4 rolls, butter and cherry jam. I would eat their bread 4 times a day. Every day. That’s how good that is. My husband had Scottish egg. He said it was good. I would definitely return to taste their other dishes. They serve savory pies. I’m grateful they have a vegetarian pie on the menu. I cannot wait to go back. Service was perfect. 5 stars for sure!

I was there when they first opened. Service was really bad. The food was fair, but expensive. I see the crowds have subsided a bit. I might give them another try.

Not impressed. Horrible bartender. Very limited menu. Blueberry beer tastes like an inferior light beer no fruity aftertones. Very disappointed!

Pies with mash and gravy and peas is delicious. We have bought the frozen pies and baked them at home and they were delish.

Don’t let the menu dissuade you from this gem. The royal pies are fab! I had the steak & ale pie and it was delicious. The pastry is the best I’ve ever had on any pie. If you like beer, you’ll be pleased with their microbrew. If you’re not a beer drinker(I’m not) options are limited to one red or one white wine, that being said the red was a Bordeaux mix and was very nice.

I came here for lunch on a Friday and it wasn’t packed at all. The restaurant has a comfy, homey feel and if I lived in the area, I would definitely come here to eat and relax. Now on to the food. Definitely come here for the meat pies. My boyfriend and I tried the Steak and Ale pie and the Chicken Balti pie. The waitress(who is also the brewer) said the cilantro chutney that comes with it is amazing, ANDSHEWASRIGHT! Actually I put this cilantro chutney on everything on my plate. I would take that chutney home in a container if I could! Both pies were so good that we ordered a 2nd chicken pie just to share. AMAZING! In regards to beer, my boyfriend mainly wanted to come here to try their large selection of lagers, however, when we visited, the brewer said she just took over the brewing recently and the previous brewer did not leave any recipies behind. Therefore, none of the beers he saw on the website was not available to try. He would suggest that you call ahead to see what beers they are serving if you are looking for a specific type of beer. The beer he did try was good though!

Simple but elegant. Simple menu but what they do serve is exquisite. Let’s start with the pies. Meat or otherwise its some of the best crust I’ve ever had. Get a pie or pasty and enjoy a tasty English pint. Save room for the rustic French pie for more crusty goodness. TL;DR Good Beer /Food GREAT Crust.

We wanted to come here so bad… Just to stop by and try a couple brews. Drove 45 mins up here. I know it’s close to closing but it’s open for 12 more mins and they have all their chairs up like they are closed. On a Friday night??? Come on!

Loved it when I visited last Fall on the recommendation of friends. Had one of the Royal pies and crafted beers. Small, cozy setting. Love discovering places like this that can make ones stay in the area really special. Tables are small and took a little maneuvering for us to manage, but wouldn’t stop me from going back. Great place to come after attending Indie film across the street. Great place to come anyway. Will definitely try again and recommend to our friends.

A little bit of a disappointing experience all in all. I’ve read all the good reviews on here and was very excited. However, it fails to live up to the hype and is very expensive for what you get. The Chicken Balti pie was OK. The pastry was very good but I expect Balti pies to be a lot more spicy. The real disappointing aspect was the stingy portion of mashed potatoes that I had as my side order. Potatoes are not expensive so for $ 2.00 I was certainly expecting a lot more mash than one tepid ice cream scoop. The meal also appeared almost instantly after we ordered, which is a little disconcerting.

Note to the owners: You have a fantastic product. The food alone is worthy of 5 stars, it really is. I grew up in the UK, and this is legitimately delicious pub-style cuisine. When it comes to pies and pasties, the pastry/crust is the most important element and you guys have that angle nailed. Flaky, buttery, just a little chewy — perfect. The fillings are pretty darn fantastic, too; I don’t even like pasties for the most part, but I love yours. Nevertheless, there needs to be a little more attention paid to the service here. I’ve now visited twice, and both times our party has had the same experience — which is, frankly, relative indifference. On our last visit, Sam, one of the bartenders, was doing everything he could, but he seemed a little overwhelmed without much help from the other two that were there. It got to the point where large groups were leaving after waiting at the front for minutes, waiting to even be acknowleged — let alone told what the wait time would be. The food came out fairly quickly, but given that the pies are really only reheated to order they should probably be coming out even quicker than they are. I’d be very happy to raise this rating to the 5 stars it deserves if the service issues can be addressed. Along with Journeyman Distillery, Pleasant House is one of the best things to happen to Three Oaks in quite some time, so I’d hate to see it derailed by inattentiveness on the part of certain staff members.

This is a fantastic option convenient to I-94. We wanted to stay on the road so we called in a takeout order as we were getting off the freeway. Friendly guy took our order & said it would be 10 – 15 minutes. Sure enough, when we arrived, it was ready. Everything was fresh, hot, and nice portions. My five stars, though, are all for the flavor of this food! We never even left our parking spot until we had finished it all! Steak & ale pie, chicken balti pie, an order of minted peas, & the deluxe mash(mashed potatoes with shaved white cheddar, bits of pot roast, and gravy). A 50 cent side of chutney put the chicken pie & peas over the top. Also ordered a side of red wine gravy just in case & it was perfect for the last little bits of steak & ale pie. Really satisfying flavors going on, we loved every last component. Thanks for saving us from fast food and giving us something to talk about for the rest of our drive!

I can’t wait for all the crazy messages telling me what a stupid b!*%# I am for giving this 3 stars. Don’t get me wrong. I fully intend to go back(mostly for a second chance). I just wasn’t blown away. The service started out really friendly and progressively got to almost annoyed. The server stood in front of me staring at her watch, then me, repeat for like 15 minutes. I almost screamed out«Hey sweetheart, you guys are open for another 2.5 hours»! I just left though. We each had the steak and ale pie. It was DRY! We were there on a Sunday 3 hours prior to closing. Maybe this is the issue? It’s almost like they were over cooked or something. I couldn’t put my finger on it. They were bone dry though. The mashed potatoes were the highlight which is kind of disappointing. The beer list(while small) had some really good beers on it. I’m not sure if I ordered wrong or caught them on an off day? With all the rave reviews I’ll definitely be back and give them the benefit of the doubt. If nothing else for a beer.

We keep coming back and enjoying this place. It’s hard to find a quiet spot in harbor country that has good service and food. Thanks, guys! Try the scotch egg.

What a great establishment! A small group of us showed up here on the Saturday before Easter, right before closing. I had forgotten we were no longer in Chicago and that things in SW Michigan start to close up around 9pm. The hostess(who I later found out was an owner) seated us anyway and severed us all delicious Royal Pies! The beers were excellent as well(and all hand crafted on site). I would especially recommend the Snobler Nut Brown Ale… very smooth. The vibe is very much in line with the quaint small town feel, I’ve come to expect when I visit the area. Thanks Pleasant House for keeping the doors open a few minutes extra for us on a holiday weekend! It was much appreciated. Pleasant House is a must do if your in the Three Oaks area.

Depending on what you’re looking for, this place can be anywhere from 3 – 5 stars.(I’d give it 3 for the beer but 5 for the food.) It’s in a tiny little quaint building in Three Oaks that is both a restaurant(ish…there’s not a HUGE menu or anything) and a microbrewery. We came for the beer, but stayed for some snacks too. I probably should’ve tried one of their famous Royal Pies, but instead got some scotch eggs(DELISH.) and a plate of crisps with a pickled egg(don’t ask.) to go with my flight. At the moment, they have 4 beers and the flight included all four in nice 5 – 6 oz. pours. The beer was decent but nothing to write home about. We tried the Codger ESB(not bad), the Oat Ale(meh.), the Violet Beaureguard Blueberry Witbier(LOVE the name… and it was pretty tasty for a fruity beer), and the Dry Stout(good but not great). Verdict: Beer was okay, service was good, food was great, the place is nice, but I just don’t know if it’s my kind of joint. It may just be a little TOO hipster for my taste.

As fans of the original Pleasant house in Chicago we were excited to try their new place. A trip to the nearby outlet mall provided the excuse to drive another 20 minutes east to Three Oaks Michigan. In appearance, this iteration is much more upscale than the original.(I sort of doubt that many of the Customers here have ventured to Bridgeview!). T It was certainly very spacious with lots of table seating as well as a small bar. They brew their own beers here and had 4 on tap — a stout, porter, ESB and a Witt beer with blueberries. We ordered steak and ale pies with a side of mash and peas. As tasty and flaky as the original — especially good with HP sauce. Only disappointment was the lack of chips on the menu — those are so good! Worth a stop if you are nearby but I still prefer the quirky charm of the original.
