UCAAN is an awesome organization! Rachel Shur, an cancer survivor herself, has put together many resources for patients with cancer and support for their friends and family. Armed with the knowledge the M.D.‘s don’t always tell you, UCAAN is a valuable and important tool to help everyone in the community. Thank you Rachel!

The founder of this foundation has a heart of gold, and has raised so much money for cancer patients. Had a great time once at a date-auction fundraiser a while back. Kudos to Rachel for everything she does.

Rachel Shur had dedicated her life to providing support and education that is needed for people who have been directly and indirectly effected by cancer. Now when I say cancer, I mean ALL types of cancer. Rachel herself is a two time leukemia survivor and founded this non-profit organization, The United Cancer Advocacy Action Network aka UCAAN) to help anyone with anything that deals with cancer. Whether it’s information about cancer, cancer support groups,(which she holds at her office) information about patient funding or resources to help them through out their treatment, resources to help people dealing with the life long, permanent effects of cancer, or to help families dealing with cancer. She networks with various cancer groups so she has the 411 on practically anything that you may need or want to know about. If there is something she does not have access to, she will find a way. This girl does what it takes! She also has fundraisers, ice-cream socials and date auctions! She makes her own«share the hope» bracelets to be passed on to cancer patients who then can pass it on to the next person they meet with cancer. Rachel sells her handmade jewelry and that she sells and the proceeds go to UCAAN. She also makes her own SUGARFREE ice cream! She makes a wide variety of flavors, all judiciously good! Her ice cream is for sale and is available to purchase.($ 1 for the individual servings, larger portions can be made upon request, price TBD) Share the Hope

UCAAN was started by Rachel Shur, a cancer survivor who recognized a lack of services for people who are surviving cancer, especially young adults. Rachel is herself a cancer survivor, and is doing everything she can to make sure that there is a community resource for young people in Thousand Oaks. I have been to a mixer at UCAAN and the facilities are great for small groups, and provides video resources, and handouts about resources that people might not know about. I recommend getting in touch with them, especially if you want to donate to a great local organization that depends mostly on volunteers and donations for its survival. Most recently they had a Mix N Mingle at UCAAN and had a raffle for a cruise, and networking with other local business owners.
