I had the Rhineland special and really enjoyed it. The wait seemed a bit long for a sandwich especially since it didn’t appear to be that busy… But it was worth the wait. A lot of meat and a lot of food in general!

We frequent The Rhineland Deli often and have not been disappointed. Their sandwiches are always fresh and tasty. Friendly staff and excellent food. What else is there?

Popped in on our way through town. We shared the Rhineland; it was good. Though not particularly unique, all the sandwiches looked pretty good. And ours was very tasty. The bread though was very soft and porous so the dressing soaked it fairly quickly which made the sandwich semi-soggy. The meat was a bit on the fatty side as well. But the slaw was crisp and clean and overall we were very pleased. Except they don’t have a public restroom, which was terribly inconvenient.

It was the middle of the week and I was trying to convince the Diesel we needed some Mexican fare. The Diesel is usually pretty flexible, but not today; he wasn’t feeling the call of the border. And now I know why; the winds of culinary fate were steering us to the Rhineland, where we were destined to have a modestly epic adventure. The Rhineland has been around for a long time(Diesel’s dad calls it his favorite place ever… how had we never been here???). You’ve seen countless places like it before, usually tucked between a stinky pet store that doesn’t actually sell any pets and a combo Yogurt/Boba/Shoe Repair Shop. But don’t let its anonymity be confused for mediocrity… behind these doors be the makings of a legend. The atmosphere is classic suburban deli, almost like they’re camoflaging what’s really going on behind that counter. There’s limited seating, but one suspects that like Cheers, there’s always a table available. The Diesel and I went with the Rhineland Special, a pastrami sando with cole slaw, Swiss, 1000 Island dressing and pickles. The Diesel went with the recommended Rye while I opted for Sourdough. There are times in your life when you experience the sublime. And often times, you’re hesitant to annoint something as «the greatest», or «the best». But I have no choice but to declare the Rhineland Special the best sando I can recall eating. Ever. And the Diesel concurs. I almost don’t want to return; maybe they got lucky that day and put together the perfect mix of ingredients, maybe it’ll never be that good again. But I doubt it. See you again boys. Diesel and I will be back.

just had the Rhineland Special– Awesome! and HUGE. Always great quality, very clean and a ton of meat on the sandwich. There is no comparison, it’s easy to see why this is a Thousand Oaks landmark of 30+ years.

My husband and are go there quite a bit and the food and service is the best. Gary knows my husband when he calls his order in and asks him if he wants his«usual». If you want a great deli sandwich I suggest you try them. It’s a great place and family owned and operated and that’s important to us.

Omg Rhineland Deli is sooo good. I just experienced the Rhineland Special(Pastrami, Corned Beef, Swiss, pickles, Russian dressing and fresh Cole Slaw on really good Rye bread… wow it’s a wonderful sandwich which is also huge… it comes with a side of German Potato salad and a real deal fresh pickle… A small non discript location on TO Blvd in a strip mall across from the beautiful opulent Lakes shopping center… The sandwiches here are king and look really good but the Rhineland Special is the crown jewel it’s served warm and it takes both hands to hold it and a Jaws like mouth to get your around it…

This deli features 32 different cold and hot sandwiches, plus salads and a special bratwurst plate(hello Rhineland!). Most sandwiches are available as a small or large, ranging from $ 7 – 11, and you also have a choice of bread: a soft sesame french roll or sliced sourdough, wheat, deli rye or squaw. All come with a crunchy dill pickle on the side. Deli sandwiches are made with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Avocado and cheese are extra. I didn’t get the Italian Combo Sub my friend recommended nor did I go with the Rhineland Special(pastrami, corned beef, swiss, 1000 thousand island and coleslaw), but I did have an excellent GRILLEDCHICKENBREAST with all the fixings and avocado. Sandwiches are made fresh to order so you may have to wait just a bit during the lunch rush but it’s worth it.

Its hard to find that one sandwich place that is friendly, delicious, clean and just a great place to go. I took my family there when our son was just 4 months old and we had the Rhineland Special and a Turkey Sandwich. Both were great, and the Rhineland is simply without compare. If you like a Rueben with addition AWESOME(ie. More german stuff) then its great. Its not over priced when you see the size of the sandwich, it can be split between 2 people but its great even as a left over later. The service is pretty quick, maybe 10ish minutes for the food. The only downside was the person working the register was young and not super friendly but not a big deal, I understand what its like to work service as a young guy. But all in all this place meets and exceeds all of our desires for a lunch spot. Its 30 minutes from my work, but very much worth it.

Rhineland Deli is a small sandwich shop, close to the Civic Arts Plaza and that small shopping center with a lake. It has a family feel, and everyone is friendly. I paid a little over $ 9 for a sandwich, but I’ll let you know that it was definitely worth it – It was by far the best pastrami I’ve ever had! It’s not big enough to make you super full, but it’s big enough to make you satisfied. Definitely showing this place to my friends.
