Orthodontists and hygienists: I used to think they were wonderful, but they are truly ‘meh’ when you balance it all out. Very customer-focused, communicate well with parents *and* kids, do what they can to make sure my son is comfortable both during treatment and after. That part is great. But, the hygienists are sloppy. After almost two years of treatment, I can’t think of a single month in the last year where we haven’t had to make an emergency trip to snip a loose wire or put an arch wire back in place. It’s not that hard to loop a wire to keep it from slipping out. I’ve even heard the orthodontists *remind* the hygienists to do this, and they don’t. So, overall not a bad experience but seriously annoying. Office staff: Front desk tries to be helpful, but this office is overcrowded, overbooked, and overworked. Don’t even think of finding a convenient appointment during the summer; the orthodontists take a ‘break’ pretty much between June and July, so appointment times are few and far between, and forget about finding same-day help for emergencies(see notes about loose wires above.) Billing staff: If there were zero stars, I’d give them zero. They do what they can to force you into their $ 139 a month payment plan, even with insurance. I spent 45 minutes going between Delta Dental and Comfort Dental’s office staff because we keep getting charged $ 139 a month per visit, even with insurance. Turns out Comfort Dental doesn’t even want to submit the claim until treatment’s done, basically ensuring they can get paid double the fair rate for service. But, they play a shell game with customers to make sure they don’t have to eat the difference between the billed and contracted rates. So while the orthodontists are awesome, watch the billing staff like a hawk and be prepared to wait-wait-wait for appointments. My son’s teeth look great, but should he need Phase 2 treatment, we will likely shop around for a second opinion or go to another Comfort Dental location.

We walked in and were greeted. There were some blocks to play with which was my daughter’s first concern, so at least she was happy. I filled out the forms and it seemed like it was just a few minutes before we were taken back. There are signs everywhere about NOPICTURES or PHONES in the treatment area, so I don’t have any to post, but the layout seemed a bit weird. There was a giant row of dental chairs looking out into the parking lot with no barrier of any kind between them. Just an open room with chairs. I guess this open-office treatment area is common with pediatric dentists, but I was kind of weirded out. The cleaning went well, I asked the dentist some questions as my daughter had nearly knocked out some teeth a few months before, and he examined her. He scraped off a bit of tartar, but then stopped before making her uncomfortable. That was it — in 6 months I guess we’ll be back. She complained that she didn’t get a toy like she did at Perfect Teeth, but she did get a goodie bag with stickers, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. I give it 3 stars. If we had better dental insurance, I’d probably go to a different(private) provider, but there’s nothing about this office that would make me want to switch to another one of the other dental chains in our plan.
