Rubio’s

I have been out here a bit more often these days. I was hungry so i came by to this location. It was busy but there was still plenty of tables to sit and eat at. There is a nice outside patio area. Parking is good. Everything was nice and clean including the bathrooms. Employess were frinedly and same good tasty food as my home loations …

Called my order in a half an hour early and 3 customers that ordered in the store after I already paid, received their meals first. After a half an hour, i had to ask about my order that was just sitting on the counter getting cold. No apology, no acknowledgement. Horrible service.

I wouldn’t normally review a chain restaurant such as this one, but I just have to this time. We were looking for a quick bite, and happened to be in this shopping center. We ordered a few fish tacos to go. My first taco (I believe it was the «especial») was okay, but after 1 bite of my second one, I literally spit it out. The stench and taste of the fish was overwhelming and just plain repulsive. Everyone knows fresh fish should not smell fishy. This was so gross, we immediately stopped eating, even though we were still hungry, and threw our «food» out! I couldn’t get rid of the horrible rotten fish taste! This place used to be pretty decent, but after this experience, we won’t be going back.

Fish in a taco… had to try it but I wouldn’t say it makes much sense. Interesting taste but would never really have a craving for it again.

It was ok. Typical Rubio’s nothing impressive. The food was good and fresh. The wait time for the food always takes so long.
I suggest calling your order in if you would rather not wait for your order.

I’m a mostly fan of Rubio’s at this location. Clean restaurant, friendly staff, and good food for the most part. The location is also super convenient.
My only issue is with the carefulness of whomever is preparing my meal. I’m a vegetarian and twice now I’ve found a piece of chicken or steak in my meal — which both times was a cheese quesadilla. Also, there has been some weird brown sauce cooked on the tortilla a few times, so I’m pretty sure the cook top isn’t always thoroughly cleaned between cooking meals. I just ask that a little more attention to detail is placed on preparing food — especially for those who are vegetarian or have food allergies. I would have said something to the staff, however, this was after I took my to-​go order home and took a bite and found the chicken or beef.

Located in the Target shopping center on Ynez/​Rancho California Road, across from 24 Hour Fitness, it’s a decent option for «fast food». They remodeled the restaurant and bathroom and it’s a big step up to how it used to be.
I like their salsa bar and the fact that it’s not overly salty. Clean and friendly, but their food is a bit pricey (it’s like sit down restaurant pricing).
Personally, I like Rubios better than chipotle, which is way too salty.
TIP: join their birthday club to get a free meal for your birthday week/​week after. If getting two different priced meals, just ring up separately and use the birthday club for the more expensive meal and pay for the cheaper one ;)

We were feeling a bit hungry after our wine tasting at nearby Briar Rose Winery (not to mention a little buzzed), so it was time to get something into our stomachs… and seeing how I had some coupons for Rubio’s and that we hadn’t gone to the chain in a while, we figured we’d use them!
Wow, has the chain gotten a remodel… for a fast casual restaurant, they’ve put less emphasis on the casual. Table service (from the manager on duty, no less!), ceramic plates, metal utensils, very clean and sharp interiors — Rubio’s has sure stepped up their game. The food is still on point; Kathy ordered the two Shrimp Salsa Verde taco combo, and I had the two Fish Taco Especial taco combo. No problems with our orders, though the hot carrots I got from the salsa bar were very spicy due to being marinated with a bunch of sliced and pickled jalapenos.
Also, this particular Rubio’s had Odwalla lemonade and strawberry citrus lemonade fountains on the beverage bar. Not sure if these options are available in my stomping grounds of San Diego (or Kathy’s up in the Chino Hills area), but hopefully these are around in our areas.

Other than my usual spot in south San Diego, I think this place is my new favorite Rubio’s. They’re located off of Ynez in a strip mall area with ample parking. The dining room is larger than some other locations.
I decided on coming here after being away for a while because I needed an Original Fish Taco fix. It was dinner time, so a lot of people were dining both inside and on the patio. The line was growing, but it didn’t take very long to get to the register. I ordered a 2 Taco Plate with the Fish Taco and Lobster Taco, beans, and chips. With a Corona and lime.
It was a wonderful meal. The salsa bar was stocked (I also try all of the options), the wait wasn’t too long, and the food was delicious. The staff were pretty friendly as well. I do plan to come back.

Rubios is good. I will still keep coming to Rubios but their staff needs to be made more aware of each customer. I waited in their so called waiting line booth area/​wall however it doesn’t stop other customers from just walking up from behind the current customer ordering and just standing behind them. Maybe a Line starts here sign? Lavonna I believe proceeded to help the other customer without acknowledging me which I thought was pretty rude and when she final called me I said, «You know I was next right?» She said «Yea, I know» No apology or anything. I was surprised so then I thought, that shows lack of training on Rubios customer service or is that just her personality? Lol Either way it was just plain rude. Then to put icing on the cake it took them 15 mins to get my TOGO order to me. 3 stars for food alone.
