We tried Doc Martin’s after being turned away from two other restaurants for lack of reservations and a private party. We were greeted by live music in the attached bar. The restaurant is cozy and has a cabin, Adobe type feel. They have the most extensive wine list I have ever seen. Their menu was short and to the point with local highlights and a variety of options. The price was a bit higher than I would have liked with entrées ranging from $ 17-$ 35 per plate. They had 3 specials that also featured local and exotic fare. Swordfish pasta, Bison filet, pork ribs, rattlesnake and rabbit sausage, shrimp enchiladas… etc. my husband got the salmon special and it was wonderful! I got the shrimp and roasted corn enchiladas. Mine was very spicy. I would have rather liked the salmon. The service was attentive and polite.

We have come here numerous times as we usually stay at the Taos Inn while we’re in Taos. The food is really overpriced when there are so many other great restaurants in Taos. They used to have papas y chile, which was delicious and worth the price, but it’s no longer on their breakfast/brunch menu. We still love the hotel, but the restaurant has been extremely hit or miss.

Another Great Lunch at Doc’s — We love this place. The lunch menu always has too many good choices. The wine list is huge with tremendous variety and always has some great finds at reasonable prices. The food is well prepared and presented. Service is attentive and atmosphere is classic old Northern New Mexico, truly charming. Convenient to the Plaza and shopping area. A standout in Taos.

How this«restaurant» has not won top honors as being the worst restaurant in all of Taos is a travesty. It is! THE! first class, second rate«eatery» in all of the northern New Mexican senior citizen loitering rooms. Of all the rooms that breathe decay and remind you not so subtly that death is around the corner, this establishment and the hordes of dust mites who fills the air are here to greet you. Then there was the food. I ordered what was listed as a flat iron steak. However, I believe it was replaced by what could only have been road kill that was dried into jerky. Followed by being soaked in old pool water to remove any flavor the motley morsel was then left on a concrete sidewalk to properly«age» as only truly 3 star food debris can be. At one point a gruff looking alley dog wondered in, snarled his way on over to my table and took a bite of my «steak.» You will never read the obituary of this poor pup’s fateful demise, but trust me when I tell you I saw that bite of petrified gristle put the most violent stranglehold on that gagging canine. That concrete Carne, an enemy so worthy, that never did a more steady stomach meet a more fearsome. If Rocky had trained on this cut of meat it would have hit back harder than any steroid filled Russian ever could. At least it had cardboard cut outs of potatoes and veggies on the side to completely dry out my mouth. Those sterile spuds were trying to protect me, to say«no, don’t, we’re going to make your mouth so dry and devoid of flavor that you won’t be able to put that tenderized cow’s hoof in your mouth.» My family had what we believed were going to be tamales. In this new age of rustic cuisine the classical delicious and juicy tamales of old, so bourgeois these days, we’re replaced. The chefs, trying to elevate our pallets, respectfully only served the brittle corn husks and dried bean skins. The brittle shards of «food» were so new age and cutting edge the mouths and stomachs of my family just weren’t up to date and didn’t recognize how a plate of dried vegetable skins that shred one’s tounge and resemble a horse eating dried straw is so en vogue. Truly, bonnie, our server, was the best part of the whole experience. She was the band playing while the ship sunk; the bright ember in the dying fire. She was delightful. I only wish she can clone herself. Therefore, every daredevil patron who holds up a middle finger to modern edible cuisine and says«I’m a true Patriot and I only eat the gruel and leather shoe stew so popularized by civil war veteran stories that I only dine at Doc Martin’s,» then at least every one of them can have one enjoyable moment in an otherwise long tour through the culinary house of horrors. If I could color this one star in black to match the color of my soul after eating this«food» I would.

Warm beer and limited food choices, especially compared to their phonebook wine list, which was significantly overpriced.

Too hit and miss for me. Amateur service MOST of the time and a strange menu and inconsistent everything… for years.

We came to this restaurant with high hopes. We heard they had great margs, but we were really disappointed. Although the atmosphere was cute, it didn’t make up for everything else. The margaritas were really pricey but not worth it! The service was awful. We waited for 10 minutes for anyone to even speak to us, then another 10 just to get our drinks. We ordered the fried veggies– but they were not flavorful. Bland and boring. Not impressed. The wait staff was unattentive and rude. We won’t be coming back.

We had gotten a recommendation from a local to try this — and it was quite tasty. We came towards the end of the lunch hour and chose to sit in the patio, the restaurant is a bit dark and it was so nice and quite in the back patio. I was craving breakfast and had a delicious huevos rancheros while my husband tried the enchiladas — both were very good. I had them do a 50⁄50 split on the green/red sauce — always good to try them both — I kinda liked the green a bit better. The blue corn enchiladas were delicious also. Nice service, overall it was a good solid place to eat — nothing knocked it out of the park, but we would try it again.

This was our first night out in Taos. It was a busy night and we didn’t have reservations, so we waited about 40 minutes for a table. We enjoyed a couple of margaritas(decent) and live music, so the time went by quickly. While we were waiting in the bar area, we sat down at an empty bar table. A waitress stopped by to see if we needed anything, but we had just gotten our drinks and didn’t order anything. A few minutes later, I saw that same waitress chewing out a manager about her section. That sure didn’t make us feel welcome. So we got up and moved to another area. Our dinner waitress was very sweet and helpful. The menu was a bit too fancy for me and my 2 kids, definitely more of a grown up thing. Although my daughter ordered the rattlesnake and rabbit sausage and she loved it! Food was well prepared, as you would expect at these prices.

I’m officially done with this place. They are supposed to have great margaritas, but mine was awful. It’s hard to mess up a margarita, but there was not enough lime juice and the flavor was way off. I had the classic, my friend had the frozen classic, and my other friend had the pomegranate frozen(«I Need A Miracle» or something like that) and none were good. We all ordered at the same time, but all of the drinks were delivered except mine. After half an hour, I finally went to the bar and asked the waitress if I was going to get my drink or not and she obviously had not yet told the bartender that she was short one drink. After getting it and tasting it, I wish I’d had just let it slide and saved my money and frustration. The staff is aloof and the margaritas suck. Just skip it. This place is not the same as it used to be in the good olé days.

Taos, Local, N.M. My girlfriend took me to this great restaurant in Taos, NM. She told me they have the best blue corn buleberry pancakes. We got to the restaurant and she got the pancakes while I got the bison burger. Both items were very good. My girlfriend was right about the pancakes. Very fluffy and buttery. My burger was juicy and thick. One day we will go back to visit some friends, and I’m sure we will go back to the restaurant.

Came here with high expectations based on Unilocal and other reviews, expected Taos’ best chile relleno. And at $ 25/plate for two, they better be great! Well, it wasn’t for lack of trying, these were gourmet all the way. Crispy fried with nice crunchy batter and overflowing rich mild cheese filling, with pepitas and guacamole and goat sour cream(a first for me). But they just weren’t my cup of tea. Certainly good, just not savory enough to be great. Maybe it’s because toppings can’t make up for the lack of a great sauce. Dunno. But at this price I’d look elsewhere.(Note though the table next to us loved them — it’s personal taste what you look for in a relleno.) For me though, this wasn’t it. Served in a nice little courtyard with flowers, in a nice historic hotel & restaurant with wood beams and ambience. Three stars definitely stingy but I just can’t get to four, especially at the price.

The live music in the lobby gives you a false impression that this will be a loud restaurant but it is actually on the quiet side. While kid friendly from a staff and menu perspective, the patrons our night were not amused by our 3 road trippers with excess energy. Our clam pasta dish(a special for that night) and the shrimp enchiladas with green sauce were both amazing. The waiter was extremely nice and always there when we needed something. If you like art, the restaurant features an artist throughout the place with a price tag if you are interested. We would definitely go back.

It was Friday night, and upon arrival, the bar was packed. I wandered into the dining area, looked around the patio section, and it took about 15 minutes just to find someone to tell me that the dining room seating was by reservation, but that the patio section was seat yourself. So, I went outside and seated myself, where I sat for over 20 minutes before a waitress came by– that I had to wave at– and asked how I was doing. I ordered a cocktail, a couple of smoked ribs(from the bar menu), and asked to see a dinner menu. I had been there for almost 45 minutes by the time I had a little food and a drink. That being said, the margarita tasted quite good as did the smoked ribs, which arrived on the cooler side of warm such that I couldn’t tell if they intended to serve them hot or cold. The chille relleno that finally arrived was truly excellent, though it arrived warm, not hot. I ordered a second cocktail, interested to try another from the long list of creative largely tequila based drinks, but it never arrived. Dinner for– 1 drink, one app, one entrée– 1 took an hour and a half. This place clearly has a large regular local crowd for a hotel restaurant. The wait staff seemed to know almost everybody in the place and I felt as if they really wanted me to know that I was the outsider, and not really welcome. Mission accomplished. It took a long time to get the check as well, which nobody came back to collect, so I left cash on the table and exited. Very solid food and drink, but really poor, super slow service.

I have stayed at the Taos Inn a couple few times while visiting Taos and Doc Martin’s is always great! I have only dined for dinner once, but have had drinks and appetizers on multiple occasions. I ordered a great sea scallop special on my last visit for dinner and was impressed to say the least. But I usually find myself at Doc’s in the morning ordering a bloody marry!

I was starving and had to stop for a really early dinner. We were the only ones there at the time so the service was great. I had a margarita which was pretty tasty. I ordered the green chili and it was delicious!!! There were pieces of pork in and it was just the right amount of spice for me. It is also served with a tortilla type bread, sour cream, tomatos, and cheese all on the side. It was perfect for a dinner and was surprisingly satisfying. I also tried the chicken enchiladas with the green sauce and it was really delicious. The green sauce is the best! For 3 of us– 3 dinners 1 – 2 drinks each the bill was only 80 $ bucks. Not bad at all!

We went there on Christmas Day. They had special menu with limited food choice for dinner. Seems leave no choice for me… We were told to wait an hour for a table. We went to the bar across for a drink. Then we discovered the bar had a similar menu with Doc Martin’s. Looked like the food came out from one kitchen. We ordered lamb leg, salmon and crispy calamari. They are all good. They have live music on the hotel lobby. Really impressive. I would say to sit in the bar(table was in the lobby actually) was even better than in the restaurant.

Been eating Chili Rellenos in NM for over 40 years, and Doc Martin’s is overpriced and overrated! Not even in the top 10 rellenos I’ve had New Mexico. Get the rabbit and rattlesnake sausage and cabbage! But their margaritas are incredible!

Not thrilled abput the food this time. I know it is popular but I was disappointed. I come here with my friend every time we visit Taos. If I have a choice next year I will pick another restauant. My fish tacos were too fishy tasting. The beans and rice were ok. My friend did enjoy her tostatdos and they did look pretty with the red cabbage on top. Service was not the best and there were flys on the wiondow we sat right next to. but a cute atble area. Oh plus a wasp was buzzing around the same window. I captured it and gave to the waiter. He was so happy. Ok not really.
