This was my first time at a Target Optical location. I called yesterday morning and easily obtained an appointment for 11am the following morning. The personI spoke toon the phone was friendly and courteous. From the moment I arrived I was greeted with a smile and asked to fill out the necessary paperwork. After the paperwork I decided to browse the selection of frames prior to being called to see the amazing Dr. Chen. They have a nice selection of frames. Not super high end but they do include Coach, Ray Ban and some other designer options as well as sunglasses. Dr. Chen completed a thorough exam on me and addressed all of my concerns. I was not rushed at all. She took her time and I am vey pleased with her Dr/patient interaction. Being that I just moved from Long Island, NY and was previously going to a higher end optical store I feel totally satisfied with my choice to try Target Optical. I will admit I was a little nervous but as soon as I walked in and met Dr. Chen my concerns went away. Not only is the Optical portion clean and organized but the entire Super Target Store surrounding it is well maintained and probably the most well taken care of Target I have ever encountered. Thank you again Dr. Chen and the rest of the staff for making my eye exam professional and well executed from start to finish.

I would rate this place 1 star after my experience the other day, I’m only giving it three stars because I’ve been going to Dr. Chen for 2 years and she’s great. If it were just her, this review would be 5 stars. I need new glasses so I stopped by Target and wasn’t wowed by the options(I got my prescription there from Dr. Chen earlier this year), but after checking out a few other local places I decided to go back and get a pair that I’d seen at Target. The lady who works there(unfortunately I didn’t get her name) seemed to have no interest in helping me even though there was no one else in the store. The gentleman who was there the day before was super nice, friendly, and helpful… this lady is the polar opposite. Anyway, I thought I’d deal with it since I was there to get my glasses and I figured I’d be in and out, but it went downhill after I gave her my insurance info. I’d already checked the Target Optical site so I knew the options I wanted which were all included with the basic lenses, and when I tried to let her know she basically just said«I don’t know about online but you’re not getting UV protection.» I asked her if I should order online instead and she said go ahead. Anytime I asked her anything she basically said«I don’t know about that» and kind of shrugged. When my husband asked her about one of the posted deals($ 100 off a complete pair) and whether it would work with my insurance(my insurance gives me a $ 200 allowance) she said«That’s insurance fraud, I wouldn’t know about that.» Um, what? It’s difficult to convey how ridiculous that sounds via text, it just made no sense and was totally inappropriate. I’ve worked in the healthcare field and I’m not even sure how that could be insurance fraud… In the end she basically told me to just order online so I left and decided to go with instead of for the same pair, it was cheaper and it shipped out the same day I ordered. I really wanted to give Target my business since I’ve never had a bad experience there, but they definitely lost a customer. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Chen for your eyecare needs, but steer clear of the sales associates who can’t even seem to be bothered to want to make a sale.

Dr Chen is seriously the best eye doctor I have been to — great bedside manner and you can tell she really cares about her patients. She caught something that no other eye doctor has, and we talked about it. For that I am so forever grateful.

Located in my super Target, this optical shop does not disappoint. Do not let your assumptions get in the way of you choosing to go here. This is not a discount type of experience. Dr Chen is a true professional and probably the most thorough OD I have encountered. She explains everything to you and makes sure you’re 100% comfortable with the outcome. I’ve gone to her for over a year for my annual exam and my contacts but decided to bite the bullet and go for Lasik this year. Lucky for me, TLC works with Dr Chen and she’s a preferred physician. I had all of my pre-op exams and consults with Dr Chen. She communicated everything to TLC and the entire process was smooth. My husband, who wears glasses and contacts, also goes to Dr Chen and speaks highly of her. In a side note, she has NOTHING to do with the front of the store-glasses and contact lenses. She gets no kickback or percentage of revenue from what occurs at the front. I really enjoy this aspect. I know I’m not going to be hard sold on an expensive brand of frames or an unnecessary type of lens. Bottom line: Dr Chen is a first class physician who is quite thorough and professional. For a little icing in the cake, you can always kill time afterwards walking around Target.

Nestled in the Oldsmar SuperTarget at the front of the store between the grocery section & the customer service desk, this handy little optical center is just what I needed. I’m what you might call morally opposed to WalMart, so when I came due — a year overdue, in fact — for an eye check & wanted the cheapest option, I found myself choosing between the Sears near USF& the SuperTarget for a $ 55 exam, & the SuperTarget is both closer & more appealing(shopping while I wait? I had to run errands anyway…). I arrived half an hour early for my appointment by accident & filled out paperwork, then browsed the glasses while I waited. I was seen 5 or 10 minutes early & Dr. Christina Chen was an absolute doll, young & pretty & friendly & smart. I chose to have my pupils dilated(no extra cost, of course) & while the paperwork said 20 minutes+ for the drops to set in, she said 15 minutes & sure enough I was back in the office in 15 minutes. I expressed concern that maybe I hadn’t done the exam right(she said my prescription wasn’t too much different from what I had before & that didn’t sound right to me because I thought my eyes had definitely gotten worse from 2 years ago), she happily redid the portion of it that could be done with my eyes as they were. All in all I was in & out in less than an hour — & it would’ve been even less if I hadn’t done the dilation. I chose not to get my glasses there just yet because I want to shop around to find the cheapest option, but they had some cute pairs for pretty good prices so I just may be back.
