This is a cool piece of history. The oldest house in Hillsborough County once stood where City Hall is now located. It was home to a boarding house, may have been used as a civic building and was home to a doctor serving in the confederate army during the civil war It was moved to its present location on the eastern edge of Ybor in the former cigar making community of Gary in 1914. The home was reportedly built in 1842 and is believed to be the oldest among Hillsborough and surrounding counties. It was reportedly built with wooden pegs rather than nails. Sadly, it is deteriorating and city officials, I’m looking at you mayor Buckhorn, haven’t expressed any interest in preserving it. Here’s an article on the house: It was featured on a History Bike design tour in 2015.
